Another result of Kirstys contact with the National Lottery was
they approached her to submit a drawing for an exciting project
the Lottery is organising for Olympic Team GB athletes. When
our sports men and women are in their rooms at the Athletes

Colouring Book to help them relax, and Kirstys design has been
chosen to be included.
So North Norfolk readers are getting a sneak preview of it, before

Trusts are a way of concealing the true ownership: Ah well, there is more than
a grain of truth in this; but the purpose of setting up a trust is often primarily protective
and is usually with the best intentions.
Trusts are for avoiding tax: Generally, this is not the case. Trusts have their own
tax system which, put simply, often taxes them as severely as the very highest earners. If
the income is paid out to beneficiaries, then usually they can claim back that higher rate
tax so the income they receive is taxed at the same level as their own income.
What is certain is that trusts are complicated and the law behind them is often
misunderstood or poorly grasped, including by financial journalists eager for a quick
headline.
So, why create a trust, if not for nefarious reasons?
The best and most frequent reason is to leave assets, often by Will on death, to children,
the young or financially-immature. This way the funds can be used to help with their
upbringing or education, at the discretion of those with their best interests at heart.
Often, the funds are held back until they reach not just 18 or 21 but more often 25. I
have seen vesting ages of as late as 30, where the parent or grandparent fears for the
child and/or there is much growing up to be done. In the meantime, the trustees can
make payments to or for the benefit of the eventual recipient.
Indeed, trusts can be a way of continuing to exercise control from the grave; but
usually with kind intentions.
Trusts are also a way of making gifts to those who are vulnerable so as to be able to
drip-feed funds to them throughout their life without making them ineligible for state
benefits.
Trusts can be managed so that beneficiaries with drink, drug or other difficulties, which
it is hoped they will in time overcome, can have the funds paid to them when they will
make better use of them.
The main use of trusts in tax planning is to pass assets on, without any reservation of
benefit by the giver, without losing control and without seeing the funds dissipated or
otherwise misused. This means that the gift can be made sooner than otherwise and it is
more likely therefore to pass tax free.
Trusts arose as a legal concept when the Crusaders left their
castles to others to look after whilst they went off to the Holy
Land and in case they didnt come back. Trusts have an
honourable English legal tradition and must continue to do so.

Completely renovated and equipped to the highest standards the old surgery and solicitors offices on the corner of Augusta Street and
Church Road Sheringham have been transformed by Randells Healthcare into a fantastic new suite of treatment rooms.
Along with employment this new facility will offer much more than just foot-care,
though it must be said Randells have led the way for many years with their seven
clinics successfully sharing their facilities with additional practitioners such as
Osteopaths, now they will provide a truly enhanced range of services.
Randell Footcare have been at the forefront of podiatry services in Norfolk for many
years providing first class foot-care to thousands of people of all ages and differing
problems. As well as routine podiatry they also have specialist skills in sports care,
so much so they keep our local premiership sides feet nice and healthy throughout
the season. But sports podiatry can be more than just foot ailments, in some cases
a specialist assessment from one of their podiatrists can help improve performance
regardless of the sport.
As well as the vast range of foot-care services the new Centre in Sheringham will host
new specialists including an Osteopath helping ease problems with backs, a team of Nurse specialists will have clinics providing
an exciting range of services including Botox treatments and travel support, whereas other practitioners will include Acupuncture,
Reflexology, a Life Coach, Counselling, a Nutritionist, Sports Therapy, a Hypnotherapist, and Holistic Massage with a Bowen
Technique specialist providing their enhanced services. Other therapists
and practitioners will add their skills in the future though at the moment
Randells are particularly seeking a Physiotherapist to join the team.
The new health centre provided by Randells Healthcare is unique in
offering so many services under the one roof and will no doubt enhance the
quality of life for many people in Sheringham and the surrounding area.
Company Director and Podiatrist Steve Randell said Im so thrilled we
are able tobring such a fantastic treatment centre to this wonderful town of
Sheringham and we all look forward to sharing our skills with our service
users. Becky Knowles Randells Business manager said though she has
been rushed off her feet getting everything together she is encouraged that
clinics were filling up fast.
The full range of treatments, services, and merchandise available from the
new centre can be found on their website; www.randellshealthcare.co.ukor

Beaches and inland lakes that attract a large number of bathers can be
designated as bathing waters under the Bathing Water Directive. Water
quality at bathing waters is tested during the bathing season, which in
England runs from 15 May to 30 September.
Cllr Becky Palmer Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: The district is
very proud of its four Blue Flag beaches at Cromer, Sheringham, Sea
Palling and Mundesley.
The Blue Flag status helps both visitors and locals understand how
clean a beach and its waters are, as well as the high quality of facilities
provided. It is something which is recognised worldwide.
Bathing water designation is one of the crucial steps on the way to
winning Seaside Award status, and then Blue Flag status.
Cllr Sarah Butikofer, ward member for the Runtons, said: This is
fantastic news for local people, local business and visitors. The quality
of the beach warrants the designation, both in terms of its beautiful
visual appeal and in terms of its history. We have coachloads of young
people coming here on regular occasions to learn about the West Runton
Mammoth, the chalk reef and the Cromer Forest Bed.
The application for the designation was formally made by North Norfolk
District Council following a local consultation. Defra ran its own
consultation which was completed in March.
West Runton has RNLI Lifeguards operating from July to September,
public toilets at the bottom of the gangway, car parking, bus and rail
services, a caf by the gangway and other food outlets and shops in the
village. It also has a voluntary beach warden and a dog free area between
May 1 and September 30.

e,
Wow, we did it. We actually had a bank holiday weekend and managed almost all of it dry. And we even sneaked in some sunshine.
Amazing. I am sure I am not the only person who has welcomed at last a little warmth in the spring sunshine. Though we have had
our fair share of sun it has been down right chilly. The beach walks have been spectacular though. This weekend was marked by the
fact I saw more snakes in 2 days than I have seen in years. Saturday saw us walking around Holt country park and seeing not 1 but 2
Adders. An indigenous snake that I have to confess never having seen in real life.
On Bank holiday Monday however the prodigal son, husband and I ventured out to Martham to visit the Scarecrow festival and
village fair, and well I can only say it was a resounding success. Bravo to the organisers it was absolutely brilliant. The pics show
our son gingerly holding a 14-year-old female Boa Constrictor (it had definitely been fed as it had a bulge half way down!) which was
surprisingly docile. Thankfully the snake did not seem phased by being held by a Tiger. It is lovely to watch your child turn into a
real little monster right before your eyes. But back to the festival. There were all sorts of stalls, and even a fun fair. Along with the
de rigour tombolas which meant we dragged yet more soft toys home to add to the growing zoo we already have, but my real ale
drinking husband was gutted that all he won was a bottle of lager. Maybe the powers that be were telling him something? If nothing
else, it was worth the leg pull! The range of handy crafts, and also animal shelters was wide and varied. We got to stroke a tiny Fox
cub that had been rescued, a baby Hedgehog, and along with the Boa, there was an Owl, a Tortoise, a Crow amongst others, all we
needed was a pussy cat and a pea green boat! Not only that but we even managed to have the first Bar-B-Que of the year, and the
weather is set to turn positively balmy. There is something positively English about stoically sitting in the garden in various fleeces
and cardigans, stubbornly waiting for the food to cook. It was only when I realised that even the dog had given up the ghost and
gone indoors, and not even the promise of a sausage was enough to keep her out in the wind and cold. We struggled on until the wind
picked up and even the salad was being tossed out of the bowl. Never mind, we will get there.
However, I know its nearly summer when the harbinger of the summer months is the first roll up of the year at the bowls club in
Mundesley. This year it was a perfect afternoon, and the season is now in full swing. My mum has now joined the Bowls season
widows, though secretly it gives her a chance to do some things on her own but dont tell my Dad! There is something very
soothing about the sound of the players ribbing each other, the clack of the bowls every now and then. One of those sights and sounds
that takes me back to pass times of when I was a child, and even memories of village cricket, though that was marred by my uncle
batting splendidly and only spoiled by the fact I got whacked in the head by the cricket ball. Probably explains many things..
Looking ahead we now have the tourist
season starting in earnest and festivals
and events taking place all over the area.
Great news for us locals as we get to
take advantage of it all on our doorstep,
I wonder what adventures will be in
store for usOh and by the way
apparently Tigers drink the juice of a
thousand worms, something I was not
aware of and I am not really sure I had zoo
keeper added to my parenting CV! One

The Art Trail is an annual event that uses an art theme to create
a journey of discovery in the Cromer and Sheringham area. This
Years theme is Beach Huts.
Around a hundred hand crafted miniature Beach Huts are
located at many of the most iconic local points of interest. Open
the doors and reveal the art as well as see much of whats best
about our lovely area.
The organisors tell us, This year were delighted to have
teamed up with wonderful local charity About With
Friends who will be hand-crafting our specially designed
beach huts in their Cromer workshop. This active and
energetic charity supports people with learning disabilities
and, as well as the workshop, they also offer gardening
and catering services, and run a super community cafe
Our sample hut has been decorated inside with a deep sea
diving theme, and were looking forward to seeing what our
local artists & creatives can do with these superb little huts...
just the right size to hang as a small wall cupboard at home!
Trail starts at Easter, there may be 100 huts to spot....a great
way to explore our towns & surrounding areas.
Leaflets will be available from Tourist Information Centres &
many places around town.
