Clinical Instructors:
The following information sheet is available to you for training your
nursing students on the AccuChek Inform II Blood Glucose Monitoring
machine. Each student will be provided a unique code to perform AccuCheks
on patients during their clinical rotation. In order for them to be compliant
with regulatory guidelines, they each need to complete a competency quiz.
Please take time to instruct them on the usage of the AccuChek Inform II
machine and have them take the competency quiz. Passing score is 80%
(they can only get 1 wrong). We recommend remediating with them any
answers that are incorrect. If they fail to get an 80% on the quiz, you must
remediate with them and allow them to test again before submitting their
competency sheet.
Training should be completed by the end of the first clinical date and
forms submitted for filing. When teaching students, complete a control test
on the machine to simulate taking a patients blood for measurement. While
on the unit, they will NOT be expected to run Quality Controls (QC) on any of
the machines. If a machine needs QCs done, please instruct them to find a
Patient Care Associate (PCA), Nursing Assistant (NA), or Registered Nurse
(RN) to complete the QC.
It is the responsibility of the Clinical Instructor to send all completed
competencies to the Point of Care Coordinator in the laboratory. The location
of the laboratory is on the ground level of the Tower Building (directly below
the Emergency Department). There will be a marked mailbox with the
coordinators information on it. If you cannot locate this mailbox, please ask
in the Specimen Collection department of the lab. They will be able to direct
you to the mailbox.
