UNIVERSAL CAR WHEEL PRESS

The
Impacter
System

This versatile Chambersburg press offers both mounting and demounting

capabilities for railroad and transit car wheel sets. It is particularly suited
for low output shops where straight through type processing is not a
consideration and where both operations can be scheduled for the same
press. Changing from one function to the other is accomplished by
simply setting selectors and adjustments for axle size. A single operator
at the joystick type controls can mount or demount a wheel set in
approximately 4 minutes. A foot switch is included for mounting
operations to permit freedom for hand-held wheel gauge. Construction is
heavy duty throughout. Available to meet US standard or metric gauges.

PRODUCTION CAR WHEEL MOUNTING

Model C Impacter Systems

We believe the future of the drop forging

industry is linked to the Impacter. When
combined with automatic stock heating
facilities, this fully-automated, air operated,
impression die forging system heats, transfers
and forges in one continuous process.
Horizontally-opposed, die carrying impellers,
deliver the forging blows, the stock absorbs
most of the energy involved to make this
system forging in mid-air.
Numerical
programming and fast striking rate (up to 170
blows per minute) permits the Impacter to do
the work of 2 to 2 standard hammers.
Die contact, held to milliseconds per blow,
increases the time for stock working at proper
temperatures, thereby promoting optimum die
life. Most drop forgings made off the bar are
adaptable to this unique forging process. A
proven system that can double, even triple
production, the Impacter is a practical
investment for the future.

Design Features:

Striking rates are 50% to 100%

faster than those of conventional
equipment.
Automatic feeding and work
handling devices eliminate the
hazards of manual handling.
Operator monitors the process
and can be stationed away from
noise source, heat and fumes.
Complete solid state electrical
controls provide greater
reliability. Preset job
programming results in greater
uniformity from piece to piece.
Less scrap.
Impacter systems are available in
sizes from 3000 to 400,000 footpounds (415 to 55,325 MKg)
maximum striking energy.

PRODUCTION CAR WHEEL DEMOUNTING

PRESS
This press is ideally suited for railroad and transit wheel shops in which car
wheel demounting is done as a straight through process. Employing a
horizontal outboard cylinder concept, it combines efficiency and high
productivity with convenient operation. The single operator can process
intermixed sizes of standard wheel sets with ease. A complete demounting
cycle can be accomplished in about 2 minutes, floor to floor.
A special, automatic version makes provision for programmed controlled
classification and disposition of wheels and axles.
It is available in US standard and metric gauges.

CAR WHEEL BEARING MOUNTING PRESS

The Chambersburg Car Wheel Bearing Mounting Press quickly and
accurately mounts roller bearings to railroad and transit car wheel and axle
sets. The press can be operated efficiently in continuous runs of like or
intermixed sizes of wheel and bearing sets. Adjustment for different sizes
of wheel sets is easily made by raising or lowering the press structure on a
hydraulically powered elevator. Press functions (elevation and ram
strokes) consume approximately one minute for each cycle and experience
shows that an operator and his helper normally achieve a production rate
of 30 wheel sets per hour. Operator controls are conveniently arranged
and incorporate safety interlocks. Construction of the press is rugged
throughout and has been designed to insure long service with minimum
maintenance. It is available in US standard and metric gauges.

FLAT DIE FORGING HAMMERS

accurately mounts roller bearings to railroad and transit car wheel and axle

DROP STAMPS CECOSTAMP

The Chambersburg Cecostamp is a highly versatile, air operated drop
hammer especially designed to form sheet metal parts of complex
curvature by impact. Blows of controlled intensities facilitate a wide
variety of shapes from any of the formable metals.
The Model L Cecostamp is designed for the tougher alloys of
aluminum, steel and the more sophisticated metals. The wide use of
the Model L in the aerospace field has led to successful Cecostamp
applications in prototype automotive stampings, mobile home parts
and in the production of sheet metal components for the agricultural
and construction machinery industries.

In many smaller iron foundries, the Model L Cecostamps impact blow

speeds casting restrike and permits such operations as flattening,
reshaping, sizing, and coining.
An electrical safety control system is standard and can be arranged
for either one or two man operation.
Ram sizes range from 21x18 (533 mm x 457 mm) to 120x120
(3048 mm x 3048 mm).

WHEEL SET
PROCESSING CENTER

The Model A Cecostamp is designed for trapped rubber forming

which requires high energy blows to achieve maximum rubber
pressures. Massively constructed, the Model A incorporates solidstate electrically programmed controls particularly adapted to the
requirements of trapped rubber forming. These controls synchronize
mechanical stock handling equipment, special stock heating devices
and other process related auxiliaries. The Model A Cecostamp is
especially engineered to suit specific applications.

A new concept in railroad and transit car wheel press design.

Twin rams support the axle in precise alignment by applying
pressure at the axle end faces during required operations.
Provides nearly exact alignment among fixtures, rams, and wheel
set, thereby extending capabilities of the press to mount and/or
demount anti-friction bearings and diesel gears as well as the car
wheels. This building block concept permits custom engineering
of a Wheel Set Processing Center to suit individual requirements.
A sensible approach to modern railroading needs, the
Chambersburg Wheel Set Processing Center is available to meet
US standard or metric gauge.
