Bixby Max Fire Highlights

™ 8,000 to 50,000 BTU's in 6,000 BTU steps

™ Starts with the push of one button
™ Burns corn 12-16% moisture (has burned as high as 21% moisture)
™ Starts corn with HOT AIR (1400º F)
™ Igniters (2) - 500 watts each producing 2500º at element and 1400º at igniter exit. Corn
ignites at 900º F
ƒ Startup Mode: 17 minutes
ƒ Run Mode: Indefinite
ƒ Ash Dump mode: 1 minute
ƒ Shutdown mode: 30 minutes
™ Convection Fan 275 CFM
™ Exhaust Fan 125 CFM
™ Feeder Wheel has an Anti-Jam feature. Wheel will reverse if a jam occurs
™ Stove runs at 1.2 to 2.1 amps - Starts at 11 amps
™ Safety Devices:
ƒ Thermocouple - Used for input to computer for fan, igniter, flame control and as a over temp safety device
ƒ Hopper Safety Snap Switch - Will shut down stove if hopper temp exceeds 160º F for a set length of time
ƒ Glass Door Safety Switch - Shuts Stove down if door is open for more than 1 minute
ƒ Ash Bin Door Safety Switch - Shuts Stove down if door is open for more than 20 minutes
ƒ Feeder Wheel Sensor - Senses if feeder wheel is working
ƒ Burn Drive Motor Limit Switch - Positions Burn paddles and senses Burn Pot jams
ƒ Exhaust Fan Tachometer - Senses if exhaust fan is running and gives feed back of fan speed
ƒ Igniter Current Coil - Sense if igniters are good. If and igniter is bad the stove will go into another program
to run the good igniter longer to assure the stove starts properly

™ Can be used with a thermostat - Stove does not shut down but idles at level 1 until a call for
heat
ƒ When not calling for heat, LED's will flash rapidly to indicate in idle mode

™ LED's show operator SET POINT and indicate error codes

™ Artificial Intelligence: Stove can self adjust itself for varying corn or stove conditions
™ Each time the stove is started: computer does a Post On Self Test and checks all
components

™ CLEANING: Once a Week

ƒ Convection Tube Cover plates
ƒ Convection Tubes
ƒ Rear Panel of Heat Exchanger (clean and vacuum)
ƒ Convection Tube Scrappers

ƒ Vacuum under Upper Burn Plate
ƒ Clean (open) all 109 holes in the Lower Paddle with a 1/8" drill or similar device
ƒ Clean Burn Pot with a vacuum AFTER cleaning Lower Paddle holes

™ CLEANING: Once a Year

ƒ Do the Weekly and the Monthly cleaning PLUS:
ƒ Clean Exhaust Fan Cleanout and Exhaust Fan
ƒ Vacuum ALL horizontal Flue runs
ƒ Vacuum out Hopper
ƒ Replace Air Filter

™ STOVE TEMPERATURES (aprox)

™ Based on the stove running on highest setting – Level 8, the stove has the following hot areas:

♦ Top of stove: 140 degrees

♦ Exhaust side of the wrap: 160 degrees
♦ Above the door: 320 degrees
♦ Inside the Hopper: 120 degrees
♦ Glass Door: 620 degrees

Glossary of Terms

ƒ Touch Pad: Bixby operator control panel.

ƒ Feeder Wheel: A solid round wheel with slots to feed a pre-measured amount of fuel to the Burn Pot.

ƒ Feed Tube: A tube to deliver fuel from the Feeder Wheel to the Burn Pot.

ƒ Hopper: A holding bin for the fuel.

ƒ Burn Pot: The Stainless Steel cylinder in which combustion occurs.

ƒ Gear-motor: A self contained motor connected to a series of gears designed to increase torque at the
output shaft.

ƒ Program: A set of written instructions imbedded within the stoves’ computer chip telling the stove
how to react to various inputs.

ƒ Flash point: A scientific attribute, the temperature at which a liquid or solid can ignite.

ƒ Igniter: An electronic device used to heat the air to 1400* during ignition.

ƒ Air Pump: A pump which delivers air to the igniters.

ƒ Artificial Intelligence: Able to apply reasoning capabilities to reach a

conclusion.

ƒ Thermocouple: A thermocouple is a sensor that is used to measure (sense) temperature.

ƒ Vortex: A vortex is a spinning, often turbulent, flow.

ƒ Clinker: The incombustible residue, fused into an irregular lump that remains after combustion.

ƒ Trim Pot: Usage of the term potentiometer (or 'pot' for short) describes an electronic component
which has a user-adjustable resistance.

ƒ Firebox: The area where fuel is burned.

ƒ Convection: The transfer of heat caused by molecular motion.

ƒ Mother board: The main circuit board that controls most of the stove’s functions.

ƒ Daughterboard: The small circuit board that controls the igniters in the MaxFire..

ƒ Diagnostic Test: A self test of the computers internal program and all sensors connected to the
motherboard. ( P.O.S.T. )

ƒ Ash Dump: The process of removing the clinker from the Burn Pot.

ƒ Glossary of Terms (cont.)

ƒ Heat Exchanger: A device built for efficient heat transfer from the exhaust gas to the convection air, and is
separated by a solid wall so that they never mix.

ƒ Surge Protector: An electrical device designed to protect electrical devices from power surges and voltage
spikes.

ƒ Joule: Measure of electrical energy, also refers to a surge suppressor’s ability to absorb energy.
