INFORMATION SHEET

Title of the project:

Full Title: Cyberbullying: an exploratory analysis of the meanings and

understandings that young people give to their behaviour.


Researchers:
This project is being produced as an Honours dissertation thesis in the Bachelor
of Social Work (Honours) program at the University of South Australia. For
student and supervisor contact details, see below.

Invitation to participate:
Participation in this study is entirely voluntary. Participants are welcome to
withdraw from the study at any time.

Selection:
This study is recruiting young adults aged between 18 to 30 years of age to based
on their experiences participating in cyberbullying related activity and behaviour
during their time studying at high school in South Australia.

Aims of the project:
1. To explore the phenomenon of cyberbullying from the perspective of
young people who participate in such behaviour, with a view to informing
more holistic intervention strategies.
2. To eplore the methods young people use to engage in cyberbullying
behaviour.
3. To explore how young people understand and make sense of their actions
and behaviour.
4. To explore the factors which contribute to cyberbullying behaviour.

If you accept to participate in this study, you can click on the link below to
complete the questionnaire:

Commitments:
The questionnaire will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.

Benefits:
By participating in this study, and sharing your experiences, your contribution will
provide greater understanding of the factors that contribute to young people
engaging and participating in cyberbullying behavior in high school.
Your participation will provide practical and accessible information, which can be
applied to the context/s in which cyberbullying occurs.

What will happen at the end of the study?
Once the study has been completed, you can choose to be provided with a copy
of the study outcomes by providing a non-identifiable email address.

Risks:
While there are no physical risks involved completing the questionnaire, you may
potentially feel some distress from recalling your personal experiences engaging
in cyberbullying behaviour during high school. If this occurs, you have the option
to skip particular questions or withdraw from the study entirely.

Compensation:
Through your contribution and participation in this study, you will not be giving
up any of your legal rights. Participants who would like personal support if any
stress arises can contact Lifeline Australia on 13 11 14 or beyondblue on 1300 22

4636. These details will also be made available on the questionnaire.



You will not be required to disclose your name, or any personal identifying
information.

Confidentiality:
You will not be required to disclose your name, or any personal identifying
information upon completing the anonymous questionnaire. Participants who
would like to receive an electronic copy of the final report through email have the
option to complete a separate form with a non-identifiable email address, which
will not correlate with the questionnaire responses.
All data retrieved from the questionnaire will be securely stored at the University
of South Australia for a minimum of five years on a password protected
computer.

Publication:
The results from this study may potentially be published in academic journals and
conference papers in the future.

Withdrawal:
Your participation in the study is not compulsory, and you are free to withdraw at
any time.

Outcomes:
The overall outcomes of this study will be documented as a student Honours
Thesis at the University of South Australia. All participants who have completed
the form with their non-identifiable email address, separate from the anonymous
questionnaire, will be sent an electronic copy of the final report through email.
