Skills Profile
Team Leader and Organisational skills
I have where possible worked as part of a team throughout my academic career and
professional career, when working on group projects and delivering group
presentation. In the course of my caring profession, I have developed team leader
skills when working as a team leader in a nursing home/hospitals/community. While
working in these environment, I gain my organisational skill. When visiting clients in
their homes/hospital to provide care I had to organise my duties and manage my time
effectively to prevent lateness for caring for my client/patient.
Written and oral communication skills
My academic and working experience have developed my written skills. Form a
universitys point it was important to produce well-written grammatical essays if you
want to obtain good grades to pass individual units. In my professional work, it was
mandatory to document clients care in their progress note, on each shift to inform
other staff what was done for the client. Any relevant information that needed to be
past on to staff was documented. The progress note had to be coherent, accurate,
concise and factual for other staff to act upon. This practice was mandatory as part of
the companys policy.
The developments of my oral communication come about through my academic years
and as a team leader talking with doctors when they visited clients regarding health
matters. When training staff in care role and talking to staff about duties they need to
preform for the residents/clients. At university, it was important to have good oral
communication skill when delivering oral presentation to the class, using power
points presentation and when delivering classroom debates.
Interpersonal Skills
I am at my happiest when I am working and interacting with patients/clients and
collaborating with other staff. It is one of the reasons I have been in a caring
profession for so long. I find it very easy to adapt into new groups of people. In my
period working with Illawarra Retirement Trust in Home Care I had to fit in very
quickly in with a multinational team, some of whom had poor command of the
English language and very different approach to work.
Additional Skills, Venipuncher, as a phlebotomist I have gained several years of
experience in taking blood from patients of different age group. Excluding children
under 4 years of age.
