La Sociedad Internacional de Senología (SIS) tiene, tal y como figura en sus Estatutos, el

propósito de reunir a las Sociedades Científicas, Asociaciones y Grupos de todo el mundo,

cuyo objetivo es la promoción de conocimiento en Biología y Medicina, con la intención de
colaborar en la prevención, diagnóstico, tratamiento e investigación de las enfermedades
de la mama. Desde 1976 en que fue fundada, ha desarrollado una continua actividad
muy vinculada a la formación de los profesionales que se dedican a esta patología, tanto
benigna como maligna.

La Sociedad Española de Senología y Patología Mamaria (SESPM) fue creada en 1980,

tiene en la actualidad más de mil miembros, es uno de los componentes más activos
de la SIS y comparte los mismos objetivos. Dispone de página web y de una revista
científica que es su órgano de expresión y donde se publican muchos de los resultados de
la investigación clínica y básica nacional. En este sentido ambas Sociedades desarrollan
Cursos de Formación, Symposiums, elaboración de Consensos para los diferentes
especialistas que las integran y colaboran en diferentes publicaciones sobre la salud
mamaria y su patología.

Una de las actividades más significativas es la realización de Congresos, en los que

se concentra la máxima información disponible hasta ese momento, sobre los últimos
avances en Senología. Todos los aspectos que abarca esta especialidad están incluidos
en los mismos, lo que permite una concurrencia de criterios que posibilita su abordaje
multidisciplinar.

La SIS (www.sisbreast.org) ha realizado Congresos en Shanghai, Zagreb, Houston, Boston

y otras grandes ciudades del mundo y la SESPM (www.sespm.es) durante treinta años en
diferentes ciudades españolas. El próximo Congreso será en Valencia del 20 al 22 de
Octubre de 2010 y reúne a las dos Sociedades, lo que supone una gran oportunidad de
adquisición y puesta al día de los últimos avances científicos. Al mismo se espera
una asistencia de más de mil quinientos congresistas y muestra de lo
que será el contenido de este Congreso es la relación de los grandes
tópicos que se expresan a continuación.
The aim of the Senologic International Society (SIS) – as it is shown in its By - Laws
- is to gather the Scientific Societies, Associations and Groups from all over the world
that share the common objectives of promoting the knowledge in Biology and Medicine
with the purpose of collaboration in prevention, diagnosis, treatment and research of
breast diseases. Since 1976, when SIS was founded, it has developed a non-stop activity
closely linked to train professionals devoted to these diseases in its benign or malignant
presentation.

The Spanish Society of Senology and Breast Disease (SESPM), founded in 1980, has
nowadays a membership of nearly one thousand affiliates. It is one of the most active
members of SIS and it shares the same objectives. It has a web site and a scientific journal
which are its way of expression. Many results from national clinic and basic research are
published there. In this sense both Societies develop Training Courses, Symposiums, and
Establishment of Consensus for the different specialists that participate in those institutions,
and collaborate in different publications about breast health and its pathology.

One of the most significant activities is the performance of Congresses, where the newest
information and the last advances in Senology, are presented in a multidisciplinary
approach.

SIS (www.sisbreast.org) has performed Congresses in Shangai, Zagreb, Houston, Boston

and other important cities of the world, and SESPM (www.sespm.es) in different Spanish
cities during the last thirty years. Next Congress will be held in October 20th – 22nd, in
Valencia, Spain. It will gather both Societies, offering a big opportunity for acquisition and
updating the last scientific advances in Senology. More than one thousand five hundred

El mundo de la Senología se da cita en Valencia en el mes de octubre
de 2010, durante la celebración de sus Congresos Nacional e Internacional,
coincidiendo con el día Internacional del Cáncer de Mama. No es una
coincidencia que esto ocurra, sino que demuestra la sensibilidad de ambas
Sociedades Médicas, por la salud mamaria en general y por en cáncer en
particular.

Este evento permitirá conocer los últimos avances en el diagnóstico,

tratamiento e investigación de la enfermedades de la mama, reuniendo a los
más prestigiosos especialistas a nivel nacional e internacional.

Valencia, ciudad bimilenaria, y por la que han pasado diferentes culturas,

tiene un espíritu abierto y acogedor, que facilita muy significativamente la
estancia entre nosotros. En sus diferentes ámbitos culturales y arquitectónicos
se puede admirar la huella de las diferentes civilizaciones y momentos. Es
una urbe moderna, dinámica e innovadora, importante centro logístico y con
excelentes comunicaciones. Como complemento de todo ello están sus
magníficas instalaciones hosteleras y las dedicadas a grandes eventos. En
este ámbito es importante resaltar el apoyo institucional con que cuentan

The world of Senology will meet in October 2010 in Valencia, during the
celebration of its National and International Congresses. They will coincide
with the International Day of Breast Cancer. This is not a coincidence, but it
shows the sensitivity of both Medical Societies, regarding breast health and
especially towards cancer.

This event will inform the attendees of the latest advances in diagnosis,
treatment and research of breast diseases. The most prestigious specialists
at National and International level will meet here.

Valencia, a bi-millennial city where many cultures still remain, has an open
and relaxing nature that makes for a warm welcome amongst its people. It is
a modern, dynamic and innovative city, with an important logistics centre and
excellent communications.

With its varied cultural and architectural fields, it’s possible to admire
the traces of different civilizations and moments. Complementing this, are
superb hotel, restaurant, and convention facilities. It’s important to highlight
