Overview

Through singing, color theory, painting, breathing exercise and inquiry,


children will become more aware of their bodies and will learn about what
smoking can do to their lungs.

GREETING & INTRODUCTION

Greet children with a handshake as they enter


Direct them to find their name tag and let new children create one
with markers only & emoji stickers
Circle up and introduce yourself again for new children and bounce
a small ball to another student to catch and say their name then say
their favorite color. Then that child bounces to someone else and so
on.
Obwisana Song with percussion eggs (review song first then motion)
Say Motto and have children repeat it back

PAINT MIXING SESSION

Give each child a piece of a paper, a brush, a rag, a water cup, plate
with paint and a plate for a palette
Demonstrate the proper way to clean the brush
Teach students about primary colors and then show how to mix
secondary colors
Mixed colors are painted in circles to make a small color wheel
Teach students how to mix values by starting with white and adding
small additions of one other color
Let students make lots of different colors variations

Then have the students make sad, dull colors and add these colors to
the weak lungs on the body silhouettes from Day 2.
Then have the student make happy colors and add them to the strong
lungs.

Come together in a circle


Hand out a pinwheel to each child
Instruct the children to breathe in deeply and hold it for 2 seconds
(signal this by holding a finger up for each second) then have them
breathe out slowly and completely making the pinwheel spin as long
as they can.
Repeat this 2 more times

FILLING THE LUNGS

Show the children a picture of the good lungs


Show the children a picture of the bad lungs
Divide the groups into the same 2 groups as before
Show the group the embellishments that can be used to glue onto the
lungs (one pile is full of bright colors, the other is full of dark and
dreary colors)
Remind the children to use enough glue demonstrate first
Tell group 1 to make the strong lungs look bright and cheerful
Tell group 2 to make the weak lungs look sad and dull
Hang the papers side by side if possible, if not just leave on the
ground and take a photo with the children surrounding it.
