BUSH HURT AS FALCONS

RUN RINGS AROUND MAROONS
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------Adelaide,SA | The big news story heading into this game was the
first ever start of Adelaide Falcon Quarterback Luke Sultana.
Sultana stunned the Wollongong Miners last weekend snatching
victory with two late touchdown bombs. But today was a bigger
test as he would play the full game for the injured Andrew Mano
still out with a concussion.
Whilst passing and Quarterback play was the talk it
came down to running the ball and winning the battle on the
ground that stole the show. The Falcons ran for 203 yards whilst
the league leading Maroons could manage a poor 75. That is 93
yards less than they average. pA major part of that problem was
the shoulder injury sustained to League leading runner Michael
Bush. Bush was hammered on a play action pass in the opening
quarter and he was left slumped on the ground. Initial reports
suggest the injury is serious and that Bush may be done for the
year. A cruel season defining moment.
Robbie Vaivai was off his game and he did not complete
a pass but threw two interceptions before he too left the game with
a concussion. Brisbane were down and out. Adelaide maximised
both picks with Sultana finding Jamie Jenkinson and then
scrambling in himself for a 14-0 lead. The turnovers did not get
any better and just before the half Jayden Schaumkel fumble the
ball away and Jack Vaivai standing in for his brother was picked
and the Falcons added another 10 points for an amazing 24-0
halftime lead.
Brisbane did not get any better in the second half. An
interception was followed by another fumble, then another pick
and finally they were stopped on downs. The Falcons stretched the
lead out to 27-0 before a change at Quarterback to Rookie Bret
Doyle meant a change in fortunes for Brisbane. Mitchel Toleafoa
ran in a score before Doyle connected with JJ Jackson to make the
game much more respectable at 27-14.
As for Sultana it was his legs that did much more talking
than his arm. Sultana threw for just 122 yards but he scrambled for
93, throwing a touchdown and running in a score.
