PURPOSE
The purpose of this method statement is to give the Engineer, but most of all the involved contractor's
personnel a detailed guide how to safely execute the works that are involved in the block works of
buildings for the Dikkowita Fisheries Harbour project.

SCOPE
The method statement covers the Block works of the buildings.

ORGANISATION
Please refer the Appendix A

PERMANENT MATERIALS
Size of 390mm x 1OOmm x 190mm Hollow cement blocks will be used.

METHOD
The block work would commence when the floor is clear of all obstacles. Then setting out will be carried
out according to the detail drawings. Blocks shall be built in cement mortar 1 :S with joints not exceeding
10mm in thickness. The blocks shall not be wetted before use.
The block shall be cut uniformly in shape by using grinder; if necessary to use for complete the bonds .
Every block layer of the wall , thickness, position, verticality and corners are at right angles will be checked
by using plum bob, right angles and aluminium straight edge. Please refer the Appendix B
New work shall be bonded carefully to existing work by cutting pockets into existing walls, the pockets
shall not be less then 1Omm deep, with a width equal to the full thickness of the new work.
Where the space between the block course and reinforced or plain concrete above that course is less
than the height of a block, the same shall be filled with cement concrete 1:3:6 (20mm) or as specified.
In all load bearing walls the blocks shall be laid with frogs upwards and the frogs shall be filled with
mortar.
The cavities between the reveal of any opening and the block work shall be filled up with cement concrete
1:3:6 (20mm) for the length of a block.
With above circumstance the walls shall be carried up uniformly in all cases where the nature of the work
admits it. No part shall be left more than one metre below the rest of the work. The work shall not be built
higher then 1.Sm in one day.
The above block work should be protected from rain with suitable covering when the mortar is green.

SURVEY
The surveyor will do the setting out of the wall thickness, position, verticality and corners are at right
angles of the walls according to the detail drawing and mark.

QUALITY REQUIREMENTS
Testing and inspection shall be carried out as per ITP Block work (DK-TB-BAG-I-1002).

PLANNING
Block work will be done immediately after removing the first floor slab formwork.

SAFETY
The Safety Officer will guide the involved personnel of block work activity according to job safety analysis
of Construction of buildings (JSA Construction of building DK-TB-BAG-A-1 001 ).
