RACISM
Racism is define as A belief or doctrine that inherent differences
among the various human racial groups determine cultural or individual
achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the
right to dominate others or that a particular racial group is inferior to the others.
This is a topic related to discrimination, and because there are too much ways of
discriminate, and there is not just one producer and one victim, it is very difficult to
understand the reason of their existence and so much more to find out a universal
solution.
As we know, the United States is one of the countries with more
history that exite discrimination. Even though slavery abolition, US citizens are
influenced by anti-black racist ideologies. Nevertheless, as the rights of blacks were
constitutionally recognized they began to use the term segregation with the
concept of separate but equal. However, throughout history were many cases that
showed otherwise such as Bessie Smith or Rosa Parks. Many of these cases led to
several important events like the Movement for Equal Rights of blacks, led by M.
Luther King than time later resulted in the Civil Rights Act. Spite of this and even
though the Supreme Court United States in the ruling "brown vs. Drafts of
education" recognized that segregation is illegal, discrimination remains a major
problem currently.
As well as before discrimination against people of color was the
only way to discriminate, there are different ways today. One of them can be found
in the discrimination suffered by Latin American people trying to reach the United
States. It is well known that they suffer from discrimination in areas such as
employment, justice system, health, education and others. Paradoxically with the
passage of time, more and more Latin Americans want to live in the United States
so that they can achieve a dignified life. As we watched in the documentary "Which
Way Home, United States is the only place in the world where they can finally be
what they always wanted. Where does it comes from and who fix it?
Reading the book "why are all the black kids sitting together in
the cafeteria?" we can say that this issue it is based on prejudice. Prejudice is a
preconceived judgment or opinion, usually based on limited information, omission,
distortion and stereotypes. We all have prejudices, ever since we were child, not
because we want them but simply because we are continually based on limited

information. Therefore, prejudice is one of the inescapable consequences of living in

a racist society and it is not our fault but even that it not relieve us of responsibility.
However, affirmative actions could resolve the problem or at least just be a way to
find a solution, even though it cannot make disappear may reduce the negative
effects of discrimination.
