QuadCopter and Tiltwing

Description
Utilizing the advantages of conventional flight as well as VTOL, a small
team of engineers including myself designed and built a tiltwing
multirotor UAV with the goal of completing DARPA's UAV Forge
challenge. The UAV is composed of foam, composites, wood and
several 3D printed custom parts all made in-house. It will be Arduino
controlled with custom software to optimize the multirotor to
conventional flight transition and eventually full automation. Currently
the aircraft is completely built and is undergoing the programming
stage.

Additive Manufacturing
Description
While taking MAE 195 (Additive Mfg and 3D Printing) I partook in
several projects to study the different types of additive manufacturing
processes. During this course I experimented with each process to
determine their strengths and weaknesses as well as what applications
are suited to each process.

Skills
SolidWorks, Autodesk
Inventor, Splicer, Prototyping,
Tolerancing, 3D Printing
Techniques and Theory,
Design, Marketing, Logo
Design

Types of Additive Mfg

Fuse Deposition Modeling (FDM)
ABS, PLA, Wax
Selective Laser Sintering (SLS)
Stereolithography (SLA)

Additive Manufacturing

Aluminum casting using a FDM positive to

create a die in sand

Printing impeller to test overhang and cooling

device for extruder

Result from poker chip mold and SLS test print

Latex mold used to create 1-sided poker chips,
created from wax FDM

Additive Manufacturing
Final Project for MAE 195
Task Design and create a product
using additive manufacturing
techniques and create a plan of
sale.
Result We decided to create a
portable beer pong set due to the
hole in the market for this type of
product.

SAE Baja
Description
As part of UCIs SAE Baja team, I worked closely with other students to design,
build, test, and compete an off-road car at this years SAE Baja competition in
Gorman, CA. During this time I was responsible for several key parts of the car
and collaborated with other students to complete large task such as the
construction of the chassis. Once the car was built, I took part in testing and
data analysis of the cars continuous variable transmission to optimize overall
performance. During competition I served as part of the pit crew, helping
prepare the car for all events and repairing it when necessary.

Trail Mapping Device

Description
Designed, built, and programmed an apparatus which can be used to
map out a multipurpose trail's specifications; including position, slope,
cross slope, direction, and length. The device uses a battery powered
Arduino Mega in conjunction with a breakout IMU, GPS, and data
logger to record all specifications as the trail is traversed in any
fashion. Continual development is underway to create a modular
device that additionally records measurements of trail clearance and
width.
