CHAPTER 3
CASE STUDY ANALYSIS
3.1
Introduction
Marketing is a crucial activity for the survival and success of a business. Business
today have more marketing opportunities that ever (Bresciani & Eppler, 2010). According
to the American Marketing Association, marketing is the integrated analysis, planning
and control of products, price, promotion and distribution, to create exchanges and satisfy
customer organizational needs. While, Kotler also provide one of the widest definition of
marketing which is marketing is a human activity directed at satisfying needs and wants
through exchange process.
Marketing contributes directly to achieving the company objective. There are
following activities which are vital to the companies: assessing the wants and
satisfactions of present and potential customers, designing and managing product
offerings, determining prices and pricing policies, developing distributions strategies and
communicating with present and potential customers.
Furthermore, marketing is not only the job that should be done by people in the
marketing department only. But, marketing is a part of everyone in the company and
organization. Therefore, a basic understanding of marketing is important to all business
people.
Halagel (M) Sdn Bhd is facing an organizational issue. External and internal
marketing program have not been able to satisfy the need and wants of customers and
markets.
Target customer are looking at the products and services offered by other
company to satisfy their wants and needs. This has resulted in poor sales and reduced
profits of the company.
Poor marketing in the company will obviously affect the sales and profits of the
company, its can be shown by the total of sales by month of Halagel on the year 2015.
According to the Appendix 1, the sales of Halagel is not stable throughout the month.
17
According to the account manager of this company, one of the reason is because of the
marketing roles that not been manage properly.
Halagel (M) Sdn Bhd should be realize about this problem and focus more on the
marketing strategies to make sure that the company get back to the track and manage to
stabilize the sales every month to get the best profit for the year, because marketing will
play the big roles in their success.
3.2
Key issue/problem
Halagel (M) Sdn Bhd has been operated almost 19 years since 1997. This
company produced Halal products to customers especially in this country which most of
the citizen are Muslim. Parallel with their vision which want to bring the Halal products
globally, this company also export their products to the other country such as Thailand,
Indonesia and Pakistan. Thats is one of the specialty of Halagel, because in Malaysia
there are still lack of manufacturing companies that produce products based on Halal
ingredients.
However, this company is facing numerous challenges because lack of marketing
strategies and marketing plan. Thats problem obviously effected their sales and profits.
Besides, they also do not have the marketing department that will focused on each
product that produced by the company. This problem will dragged the company to the
worst situation. So, this company must addressed the problem that they facing and take a
quick action to solve this before its become too worsen.
According to Kerin et al, 2016, the marketing plan of firm helps the firm connect
with its customers. Therefore, the Chief Executive Officer of this company also wants to
develop an effective plan of action that will not only help and retain customers but also
boost sales and profits.

Alternatives solution
The primary purpose of any business, including Halagel is to meet the needs the intended
customers with the companys product and service. Without customers to sell to, the business
would not exist.
The key factor to the success of the company is how they manage to
communicate with their present customer and potential customer to attract them to stay loyal
with their product and service. The company will successfully gain a competitive advantages by
linking each elements of marketing mix and manage to increase their sales month by month then
contribute to the high profit for the year.
In order to achieved their target, Halagel (M) Sdn Bhd need to create and form their own
marketing team. Thats will help the company to develop the marketing program and make them
stay on the right track to ensure that their targets and objective will be achieved. By forming their
own marketing team, its can help them doing a marketing for each products and services that
they produce easily. Besides, the marketing also can be more focus for every types of product
that produced by them. The importance of the marketing department of the company is to make
sure that the target sales of the company can be reach.
Social media enables companies to network with customers in order to build relationship
and achieve a better understanding of customers need. The aim of business is want their message
to reach as many people as possible. To maximize their aim, Halagel must have a presence where
customers are hanging out. According to the Halligan, 2009, most of people nowadays spend
their time on social networking sites. So, the other ways that can be utilize by Halagel is through
social media. Thats is the opportunity that should be grab by the company to exposed their
products to the customer with a small costing.
21
3.6
Conclusion
Halagel (M) Sdn Bhd has a big potential to become the leader in the Halal manufacturing
industry in Malaysia. Therefore, companies must be focus on identifying the effective marketing
strategy to market their products and services around the world. According to the (Kerin et al.,
2006) seeks to keep the marketing program moving in the direction set for it. Its shows that the
marketing is the huge part in the business to ensure that the objective of the company will be
successfully achieve. So, the company should make sure that their marketing process moving
