LifeSynch/Humana, Irving, TX

08/2000-04/2012

Managed Behavioral Health and EAP organization

Chief Information Officer (08/2000-06/2010)

LifeSynch (formerly Corphealth) was one of the first companies to purchase the managed behavioral software
solution that I designed in the early 90s. I was brought in to leverage IT and IS solutions by re-engineering the
IT infrastructure and strategy into efficient alignment with core business priorities. At the beginning of my
tenure with Corphealth the company was on the verge of going out of business due to poorly functioning
departments. I was given free reign by the COO at the time to redesign all areas not only through
technological solutions but also process and procedure improvements that resulted in a significantly improved
organization that began to see profit versus closure. Key leaders and contributors began to be identified
helping to reshape Corphealth into a successful MBHO. The success quickly led to an increase in customers
and ultimately to Humana purchasing the company at the beginning of 2006.
Managed all aspects of IT and IS departments as well as claims, benefits and eligibility, and
development/management of a clinical outcomes and business analytics department.
First six months of employment retained dissatisfied customer (1.5M annually) through the development
of key reporting and collaboration
Business process review led to automation of customer service process reducing staffing model by 50%
from 5 FTEs per 100K members to 2.5, 115k annual savings.
New product development, software development, increasing annual revenue by 1.7M annually.
Re-engineered business process and procedures company-wide reducing staffing needs by 225K annually
(in addition to customer service).
Thorough review of eligibility for each customer revealed monies owed in excess of 1.2M.
Mentored and developed future COO.

Vice President of Products and Business Systems Integration (06/2010-04/2012)

Purchased by Humana in 2006 the organization was fully integrated with corporate Humana in 2010 with all
aspects of IT and IS moving under the corporate IT department and their CIO. A position was developed for
me to take advantage of my skills and experience acting as the bridge between IT and Operations.
Developed and staffed PMO including testing unit.
Continued management of claims, benefits and eligibility, provider data management, and clinical
outcomes and business analytics.
Managed new acquisitions integration and new product initiatives.
Post integration with corporate Humana saw less than 5% voluntary turnover of staffing while the rest of
the organization averaged 15%.

Managed Behavioral Health Organization Start-up

Manager of Operations
The third person hired to this start-up, I was hired on to learn and manage claims, customer service, provider
relations and contracting, benefits, and eligibility. Every aspect of the company was paper driven and by
hand. Working with a programmer I learned how to write code, Visual FoxPro, and designed and developed
a fully integrated software application to automate every aspect, including clinical operations and basic
reporting, of our company. The software was sold to AVIO International in 1997 where I continued working
on it and began selling it to other MBHO organizations.
