Lawyering is a highly esteemed profession. Many people have high regards to
lawyers. People look up to them as a rare specie with high intellectual prowess. I am a person who constantly wants to grow and learn. I started going to school when I was three. After passing the CPA Board Exam, I entered Sycip Gorres Velayo & Co. (SGV Co.), largest accounting firm in the country because I wanted to be trained well. After almost two years in SGV Makati, I went back here to study a Masteral Degree in Business Administration. I finished it in two years. I worked in a financing company here in Bacolod for almost three years before I decided last year to join the Academe in La Salle. While doing part time here in La Salle, I I studied law for several reasons: First, there are no lawyers in our family and I wanted to be the first one. My parents always dreamed to have a lawyer in the family. They used to encourage my brother to enter into law school because he is practical, competitive, and argumentative. However, he married early and he finds it hard to balance work, family, and school so, he did not pursue the dream. I want to realize my parents dream and thats one of the reasons why I am here in law school. Second, I was inspired by my work before. I handled several fraud audit cases in my previous work, where I appeared to be the witness in several criminal cases filed by the company to some of its employees. I had the opportunity to work and plan with the lawyers and I was inspired by the nature of their work. Also, I had experienced several labor issues and disputes in the same company where we worked with our in-house lawyer. As administration manager, I had the chance to prepare and process legal documents. All of these, I find interesting and so, I would like to know more about the legal world. Third, I dont want to be ignorant from law because I wanted to protect our family business. Based on my experiences before, I realized the importance of legal knowledge in the business world. Lastly, because I wanted to challenge myself. I am not a structured person. I dont want to do a job over and over again because I am easily getting bored. Before, I entered audit and finance primarily because the job does not require a routine. Everyday is a new work which requires a lot of thinking. I am an accountant but I dont want to do accounting jobs because its very routinary. I believe that entering into law school will suffice my thirst for learning and will challenge me a lot. I can now feel the pressure and challenge but I am never a person who easily gives up so Im up for the challenge.
