SETTING GROUPs N

You can have upto 6 groups dependent on the CAP 531 configuration. All
setting groups are identical. The setting group that has to be applied for
protection depends upto the setting Active Setting group.
The settings available under Transformer Differential Protection are:
The meaning of each settings is available in the Technical reference manual
and Application manual.
Go through the same and if you need any further clarification on that send
query.
SELECTION OF REFERENCE WINDING
In RET670, transformer differential, one winding has to be selected as two
references.
1.Ampere reference 2. Phase reference
1. Ampere Reference:
The W1 winding is always taken as Ampere reference.

2. Phase Reference :The first STAR connected winding is selected as

reference winding. If no STAR connected is available, then HV Delta winding is
taken as phase reference.
All these are taken care by the matrices that is assigned to each transformer
with or without zero sequence current elimination. To find the matrix we should
be clear, which winding is selected as Phase reference.
Y ya yb winding Y is selected as phase reference since Y is the first
connected STAR winding
D ya yb winding ya is selected as phase reference since ya is the first
connected STAR winding
D da yb winding yb is selected as phase reference since yb is the first
connected STAR winding
D da db winding D is selected as phase reference since no STAR winding is
available and D is HV winding in the combination

Eg:
In a transformer with clock angle Dy5d6 transformer,
D is HV winding connected in DELTA
y5 is MV winding connected in STAR and has a phase displacement of 150
degree lagging (forming the 5 o clock position of the two arm of clock) wrt D
d6 is LV winding connected in DELTA and has a phase displace of 180 degree
wrt D
Here MV (y5) winding is selected as phase reference as per the logic given
above. So we select the either of the two matrix mentioned as MATRIX FOR
REFERENCE WINDING in manual.
The transformer data takes D as reference and gives other winding phase
angle displacements. But now since winding y5 is taken as phase reference,
the transformer vector group may be written as D7y0d1.
Put in other words, y5 means MV winding lags by 150 degrees if winding D is
chosen as reference. But now MV winding is selected as reference. So winding
D leads the MV winding by 150 degree which is equivalent to 210 degree lag.

Similar way the third winding is clock group is also found to be 30 degree lag.
The MV winding has the reference matrix.
HV winding has the matrix of 210 degree lag.
LV winding has the matrix of 30 degree lag.
Now refresh yourself with matrix multiplication rules and be ready for the next
slides.
Only if you all understand all these steps clearly beyond doubt, proceeding
further as meaning. If you dont understand this step there is no use in going
further. Even I have missed some vital points purposefully. Try to identify the
same. Ask for any clarification required. Only those who ask will be answered.
For this you must know what to ask.
Hint : Technical reference manual and Application manual will be help you.
