Proposed 2016 training schedule

Emergency Medical Services Australia staff must undergo re-certification to practice at their respective
clinical level every year in accordance with the guidelines set out for unregistered heath care practitioners.
This is achieved by an intensive continuing education & development point (CEDP) system.
Every staff member must complete 150 CEDP points per calendar year to obtain and maintain their
Authority to Practice. This is demonstrated in the table below:
Cluster

Explanation

Staff are required to undertake a minimum of 50 clinical

contact hours per year. This is the time spent assessing,
treating and monitoring patients. This is validated by case

areas of low incidents have the opportunity to undertake
clinical placement in higher acuity areas on secondment to
meet the requirements of cluster one and aspects of cluster
three.

60 points

Failure to meet outcomes results in staff having their Authority to Practice revoked.
Emergency Medical Services Australia has invested a great deal of time resources and money into
developing the new capstone internship. This divides your internal clinical practice assessments into 3
stages: Laboratory, Clinical and Field.

Each stage allows staff to develop a sound understanding of skills and knowledge base to perform at their
appropriate clinical level.
The dates for the 2016 skills labs are attached in appendix A. Bookings are essential as pre-course
information and pre-course study must be completed prior to attending the workshops.
