ABSTRACT

The Foothills Christian School is one of the fastest growing Private Schools. This
project examines the issues related to Online Grade Access that implements a webbased application composed of the Grade School and Senior High. This would create a
system of reliable and accurate to compute grades in all different subjects in the Basic
Education Department. A comparatively fast access of information of grades; generate
reports, and information of the input of teachers. This will be designed through webbased with the use of MySQL as database management with the intent to generate
reports. It helps the teachers to minimize the time consumed in computing grades of the
student using manual method. It also focused each of the underlying technologies used
to create and implement the application.

CHAPTER 1
This Chapter includes the background of the study, statement of the problem,
significant of the study, scope and limitation, definition of terms.

1. BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Foot hills Christian School has increased in student`s population and at the same
time, the number of works of the registrar and student`s grades to be processed has
also increased. One of the responsibilities of the registrar office is to keep the student`s
grades data secured for their records and purposes. in order to provide an affordable
and accessible tertiary to the students. FHCS are manually distributed the grades to the
students, they are using database system in encoding grades. The registrar office
encoded the grades of the students once the instructors submitted their report card. The
registrar office will release the grades of the students after they encode and the
students can get their grades though grades slip. An Online Grading System will provide
efficient and accurate grade reports.
On the other hand, it intends to perform the following operations; study and
develop the manual operation by the office of the registrar; find out what are the
circumstances causes the delay of releasing of grades; minimize the time consumed in
searching for the grades of the students in the filling and retrieval of data. To ease these
difficulties in knowing the grades, a web-based System will be used. Since internet
seems to be a positive feature which most individuals possess and take almost in all
places with them, it is therefore an extremely effective means of transporting information

to them quicker and easier. FHCS is one of the schools whose privilege is to give good
education to everyone who does not afford to enroll in other schools that have high
tuition fees. They always secure the best way to make their students comfortable with
their school.
The study intends to make an online based system for the FHCS Grading
system. The FHCS Online Grade Access will be composed of system pages that focus
on grades, and personal information of the students in which teachers and students will
be the user beneficiaries of the system. These are meant to support and make the
releasing of grade easier than the old and manual operation .And also will minimize the
processing time in order to access the record of student quickly, so that online grading
will be faster than the manual operation. Student will be comfortable in the system
which is consistent in processing of grading system since FHCS are still doing the
manual operation thats why students are still experiencing the long and slow process.

1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Since our school is still doing the manual operation, we think Online Grade
Access will be a great help to avoid the long line of the students. Below are the
following problems encountered by FHCS students.
1. What is the cause of the long process during releasing of grades?
2. What are the problems encountered by the instructor during encoding of grades?
3. Why did the students waited for long hours to get their grades?

1.3 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study was made to find out that the use of online based grading system
will lessen the time for the transaction of encoding and improve the operation of the
releasing of grades of FHCS and the importance of this is it can make the processing
time faster and consistent .Also in using this system it can recognize the person involve
in this study. This study will benefit the following person:
Professors of FHCS it can help them to encode the grades through online system.
And it is less hassle for them, if they not using the manual operation.
Students of FHCS - it can help them to see their grades in a more efficient way. They
can get their summary of grades through internet. They dont need wait for the long line
and process time.
Registrar of FHCS it can help them to lessen their tasks in preparing of summary of
grades of the students.
To the Future Researchers- it can help them as a guide to enhance more from their
future thesis.

1.4 SCOPE

FHCS ONLINE GRADE ACCESS composed of Log-in form that allow student to
access using their student number. The home page contains the personal information of
student and 3 buttons which are grade, change password and Log-out. Also, it allows
administrator to keep track and maintain the information. Here are some scopes of our
proposed system.
Through Online Grade Access, the request of the grades can be done through
internet, the Administrator has an authority to click the grades with the permission of the
instructor, the instructors can encode code grades of the students through online, the
administrator can filter the instructors, students and subjects, the administrator can
add, edit, view, and delete subjects, students and instructors, the instructors can change
their password to secure the encoding of grades of the students in online system, the
administrator can print the summary of grades of the students and print the records of
the instructors and lastly, the system automatically backup the database.

1.5 LIMITATION

This study aim to develop an online grade access for FHCS, The limitations are, It
limits to store the record of the students, It limits only the grades of the students, Only
authorized personnel can manage the system. (faculty, dean and staff), If the instructor
submitted wrong grades of student, The online system is not reliable in human error,
The grade encoding process relies on Internet connection and only the registered
students are qualified to see their grades.

1.6 DEFINITION OF TERMS

Terms here are conceptually and operationally defined for better understanding of
the readers.
DATABASE is systematically organized or structured repository of indexed
information (usually as a group of linked data files) that allows easy retrieval, updating,
analysis, and output of data
ENCODE - to convert (a message) from plain text into code.
GRADES - an accepted level or standard.
ONLINE - Computer or device connected to a network (such as Internet) and ready to
use (or be used by) other computers or devices.
HTML - Hyper Text Markup Language is the standard markup language used to create
web pages.
JAVASCRIPT - It is most commonly used as part of web browsers, whose
implementations allow client-side scripts to interact with the user, control the browser,
communicate asynchronously, and alter the document content that is displayed.
MYSQL - The worlds second most[a] widely used relational database management
system (RDBMS) and most widely used open-source RDBMS.
PHP - A server-side scripting language designed for web development but also used as
a general-purpose programming language.

CHAPTER II

This Chapter includes the review of related literature and studies, conceptual
frame work.
2.1 RELATED LITERATURE : LOCAL
A. Online enrollment system
According to Aquino (2005), importance of computer application is increasing
day by day. In the latest decades of the Millennium winning organization are those
which are willing to integrate business strategy and computer information technology in
plying their respective trades. The use of computer information technology results for
them to be able to develop products fast and make decisions fast, ability to have fluid
organization structures, able to cope with the demanding work force and external
environment by the rapid development of innovative approaches and lastly using
information system confirms the company mission vision. Schools use information
systems in the way of implementing an enrolment system. This results for them to
attract enrollees and earn an income. Enrollees are attracted because the use of the
said system makes the transactions faster and easier.
Lack of enrolment system in schools can lead to chaos and troubles, as stated by
Ace Adrian (2011). Students will be confused on what they should do to be able to enroll
that is why such systems is extremely useful in the way that it gives an ease on working
on enrolment processes. Enrollment is very useful in retrieving vital information of the
students. Without it can lead difficulty both for the administration of school and student
in enrollment processes many countries nowadays, especially the developing nations
are challenged by the rapid technological changes. This has radically changed the living
and working styles of the entire society. This transformation has been driven partly by

rapid technological innovation. While in the 20th century saw the rise of the industrial
revolution with steam-powered machines intensifying and expanding human productive
power, the 21thcentury was characterized by the birth of machine-powered flight and
the emergence of broadcasting and computer technologies the extend the reach of
human creativity even more and made possible new ways by which humans could live
and work together (Tinio, 2002). The transformation of manual enrollment transaction to
automate and now into web based automation is one example of what has driven partly
by the rapid technological innovation. Any ways just to make work easier and faster like
enrollment transactions is possible with the emergence of computer technologies.
Technology innovation had influenced mans work from data processing, business
transaction, research, planning, monitoring and even in medical 14 operations on
human anatomy are now entrusted to computer technology. Web applications are
popular due to ubiquity of its applications. The ability to update and maintain web
applications without distributing and installing software on potentially thousands of client
computers are key reasons for its popularity. A significant advantage of building web
applications to support a standard browser feature is the ability to perform as specified,
regardless of the operating system installed on a given client (Bacala & Reanno, 2009).
A web-based enrolment system has featured that meet most of academic institutions
systems needs and requirements. This includes standardized modules for student
registration, enrolment, grade managing, and other modules that are deemed necessary
to operate a school.

B. Online Grade Encoding and Inquiry System via SMS Technology

Mobile Education Services Based on SMS and Their Architecture Comparison

Wireless mobile application can be differentiated by two underlying technology
platforms: wireless web-based technology, such as Wireless Application Protocol
(WAP), and Text-based Technology or Short Message Services (SMS). SMS is a basic
and common feature given by cellular operators to users. To use WAP feature, users
have to activate GPRS facility and they have to use mobile phone which has WAP
capability. Recently, the growing influence of SMS has attracted significant attention. As
convenient and low-cost mobile communication technology, SMS is experiencing very
rapid growth. In 2001, 700 million mobile phone users worldwide sent an average of 20
billion SMS messages every month. Indeed, the volume of SMS messages sent in
December 2001 was 30billion worldwide and it was expected to grow to 100 billion by
the end of 2002. In Europe, Norway leads the region with an average of 47 messages
sent per month per user in 2001 while Philippines lead the Asia-Pacific region with 336
SMS messages. The worldwide increasing growth of SMS messaging services has
spurred the developments of SMS commerce applications, which mainly cover
consumer-orientated business such as alerting, ticket booking and retailing. Given that
the huge SMS messaging customer base could potentially serve as major component of
the SMS-commerce customer base, many commerce providers are becoming more
interested in SMS commerce applications. The university as an educational
organization has a lot of valuable information which can be provided to the students,
such as (1) grade release, (2) enrollment information,

(3) University announcement, and (4) internship opportunity .If the university can
provide them on the SMS service, the students can get the Information easier and
faster. They can request the information from the service provider at their own
convenient time through their cell phones. There are two kinds of services which can be
built to distribute the information through SMS: (1) Independent Service - It is created by
the university itself using one cell phone and one server.

2.2 RELATED STUDIES :FOREIGN

A. Online Payment System
Daniel (1999) in his research paper described e-banking as the newest delivery
channel offered by the retail banks in many developing countries. The objective of the
study was to analyze the current provisions of electronic services of major retail
banking, organization in the U.K. The researchers through questioners found the 25%
banks I the developing such service while 25% where not providing any e-banking
services. Electrical channels, PC, Digital TV and all these provide greater accessibility
and service at lower price. To make service more adoptable, customers should be
provided maximum choice and convenience. Restriction and limitation with in
organization to operate services and its market share or strength were viewed as
important to decide and operate the e-banking service

2.3 CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

The input of our proposed FHCS ONLINE GRADE ACCESS is Grades; the
teacher will encode their students grade then submit it to the system administrator. We
put Internet as the process of our system. Since it is Online, the students need an
Internet connection to access in their account. And the last one is output which is Print
Grade, after the student see their grades they are allowed to print it then verified to the
registrar.
