Description:

I created an informative brochure about Audrey Hepburn. Audrey really inspires me. She was a refugee
during WWII, had an amazing career while trying to prioritize her family, and did humanitarian work
with UNICEF.

Objectives:

This project was designed to help me practice the skills that I have been developing all semester. I designed
a unique logo, researched and wrote body text, and edited images in Photoshop to create this brochure.

Process:

After designing the logo in Illustrator, I created the format for the brochure on InDesign. I edited the
photos in Photoshop. For example, for the inside of the brochure I designed a montage of Audrey Hepburn
and the Eiffel Tower. I used a white brush with approximately a 25% opacity to lighten the background. I
specifically focused on where the text would be placed. I also cut out the image of Audrey and the child. I
experimented with a text wrap around the image. I also learned more about paragraph styling, which is a
way to increase the uniformity of paragraphs and headings.

Description:

I designed a web page to showcase my logo design.

Objectives:

I learned how to code using HTML and CSS.

Process:

I used the unique logo design that I created in Adobe Illustrator to inspire a web page. I resized my logo
to 400px by 400px. I did the basic framework for the coding in HTML and then stylized my webpage in
CSS. I pulled the hex color from my logo in Photoshop to maintain the unity of my web page. I also found
a code online to create the diagonal stripes which I sourced in an invisible comment in the CSS document.
I increased the pixel size and eliminated the gradient from the template. This expanded the width of the
stripes. Finally, I increased the space around the logo by inserting the code padding: 25px. This helped to
increase my white space.

Description:

I created a hipster inspired representation of my favorite Tom Hiddleston quote. The converging urban and
nature landscapes are symbolic of converging societies. While the geometric deer may appear random, it plays
back into the hipster theme and is appealing to the intended audience.

Objectives:

The purpose of this project was to create an inspiring montage while utilizing design principles.
Additionally, the project required that I improve my ability to combine multiple images on Photoshop in an
appealing manner.

Process:

I decreased the pixel sizes of the lake and cityscape images. I then layered the two images. I created a mask
and used the brush tool with adjusted opacities to create the montage effect. I then used the pen tool to
select the deer, creating an additional collage effect. I also added a sharpen filter to improve the quality of
the image.

Description:

This print ad was designed to market our high-tech sensor. In business fundamentals, our team has been
competing in Capsim. During this competition, our team of four students ran six departments (R&D,
Marketing, Production, Finance, TQM, and HR). For this assignment, we created a marketing plan,
commercial, and print ad. I pulled elements from the marketing plan and commercial to design a print ad
for our sensor.

Objectives:

I learned how to market a product. I also learned how to create a print ad that would correlate with
a commercial.

Process:

I completed this assignment in Photoshop. I began with the image I entitled Squares. I used the lasso tool
to move the Squares image to a layer on the Light Circles image. I then put a mask on it and decreased
the opacity to approximately 25px. When I was satisfied, I flattened the image and then repeated the
process with the Skyscraper image, and finally the Windows image. I then created a separate 11x8.5
black document. Because my montage was larger than the black document, I decreased the image size.
I did not decrease it to match the black document because I wanted it to fill a little bit more of the page.
When I implemented the mask for this layer, I allowed more of the black to show through in the shadows. I
also allowed the black at the top to contour the mountain to add contrast and increase the texts visibility.
Finally, the logo was designed by my group member Jos Ramirez. It was originally on a white background.
I used the lasso+ tool to select the specific logo elements. This eliminated the white and increased the ads
unity. I also increased the kerning for the word sensors.

Description:

AKE

I created three separate logo designs for Jake Wasden. After reviewing the designs with him, I edited his
favorite. Jake spent three years in Japan. The first symbol is a kanji symbol that makes a sounds similar to
the english J. I was also inspired by the Japanese flag when creating this design.

Objectives:

This project was designed to help me learn more about the logo design process within Adobe Illustrator. I
also learned about market research as I requested opinions from multiple individuals including the client.

Process:

I began with three unique logo designs. The revision process was conducted with both Jake and BYU-Idaho
students. The logo is formatted in three versions: color, greyscale, and a t-shirt copy.

Programs:

Adobe Illustrator | Adobe InDesign

Description:

For this assignment I designed a unique Logo which I utilized to create a letterhead. The information on
the letterhead is fictionalized; however, the design was inspired by my major in communications. I love
how classy the typewriter is; I kept the message generalized because at this point in my education I am
not affiliated with an industry. The typewriter was inspired by my love of classic concepts: vintage bikes,
records, and Audrey Hepburn.

Objectives:

This project was designed to give me a practical, real-world application for my logo design. I also improved
my ability to transfer projects between programs.

Process:

I began by designing the logo in Adobe illustrator. The majority of the design was created by combining
shapes and deleting, or adding anchor points. I allowed the shapes to have white outlines. The body color
remained teal, which allowed for the monochromatic, outlined design. After completing the logo, I moved
it to Adobe InDesign. After formatting an 8.5x11 page, I played with the opacity and rotated the design
to create the watermark. I also inserted a smaller logo at the top and used the slab serif font American
Typewriter which I felt complimented the theme.

I removed the circle around the typewriter on the back of the business card to eliminate trapped
white space.

Description:

I created a poster from an image that I took of the Spori. The poster showcases an analogous color scheme.

Objectives:

I learned how to use a digital camera. I also learned how to edit images on Photoshop.

Process:

After taking and uploading the image, I utilized Photoshop to edit it. I adjusted the image levels,
saturation, color balance, and sharped the building. I also lightly blurred the sky, plants, and foreground. I
then decreased the image size and moved it to a new canvas. I matched the majority of the colors to colors
in the image. I added more blue to the green to make it more visually pleasing.

Programs:

Photoshop | Adobe InDesign

Description:

I created this design with the intention of giving it away to inspire others. The quote is from
Audrey Hepburn.

Objectives:

This was a personal project. I designed the logo for myself and created a handout that I would be able to
give to friends.

Process:

I designed the logo in Adobe InDesign. To create the flower, I duplicated the petals and utilized mild color
alterations to add depth. I created the stripes in Photoshop and then brought everything back to InDesign.
I then added the text.

Description:

I designed a print ad for a fictional charity event.

Objectives:

This assignment was designed to prepare me for design work should the professional programs be
unavailable. I also learned how to scan images.

Process:

I began by scanning my image into the computer. I then cropped the image from its background. I aligned
the body text with the title and different areas of the fruit. The design was created to be cropped after
printing to provide full bleed edges. I selected a triadic color scheme to match the image.

Come purchase locally grown fruit.

All proceeds will go to buy wheel chairs for
disabled individuals in the US.
Fruit ranges between $1 and $3 per lbs.
Hosted by the Local Farmers of America
Association.

Description:

I designed a flier for a fictional leadership conference.

Objectives:

This project was my first experience with Adobe InDesign. It was designed to help me practice
implementing basic design principles within InDesign.

Process:

I created four pen and pencil sketches of possible flier designs. Following two peer reviews, I revised my
draft and produced this flier. The image, logo, and body text were all provided. With this flier, I focused on
having consistent alignment and good whitespace. I was also required to spellcheck the body text.
