1:SetGoalswithStudents
Tohelpstudentsgetinvolvedwiththeirlearning,usetheLearningContinuumClassView,whichshows
skillsandconceptsstudentsarereadytolearn.
ExampleforGoalSetting:ThestudentshowninthefollowingRITbandcouldsetgoalsaroundacouple
ofthelearningstatements.Later,whenreadytosetnewgoals,returntheClassViewandpickfromother
learningstatements.

2:TailorLessonstoStudentNeeds
Whilepreparingtoteachatopic,lookforwherethattopicappearsintheClassView.Usesearch
(Ctrl+F)ifneeded.Onceyoufindthelearningstatementsmostsimilartothelevelyouintendtoteach,
comparethelowerandhigherRITbands.

ExampleforTailoringLessons:Supposeyouintendtoteachthetopicshowninthefollowingfigure.You
cantailoryourlessontostudentsinthelowerRITbandsbyusingthelearningstatementthatappearsfor
them.Likewise,inthenexthigherRITband,therearelearningstatementsapplicabletostudentsreadyfor
morechallenge.

Note:Youcanstilldifferentiateinstructionevenwhenalearningstatementappearsacrossseveral
RITbands.StatementscoveringabroadrangeofRITbandsindicateaskillorconceptwithprogressive
levelsofcomplexity,suchasmultiplyingsingledigitsvs.multipledigits.

3:CreateFlexibleGroupsforInstruction
AsshownintheClassView(seethepreviousfigure),studentsclusteredinthesameRITbandoradjacent
RITbandsmayhavesimilaracademicneeds.So,whencoveringthatspecificsubgoal,youmightbring
thosestudentstogetherfordifferentiatedinstruction.

4:ChooseClassroomMaterials
Togetherwithourstateandlocalstandards,usethelearningstatementstogenerateideasformaterials
andresources.Inparticular,theTestViewenablesyoutoexploretheprogressionoflearningforeachtest
subject.Ifavailableforyourtestversion,usetheDisplayOptionstofilterlearningstatementsbasedon
gradelevelstandard.
