Roaring Call

oday we are observing Advaita cryas appearance

day, which is on saptami tithi in the month of Mgha.
Advaita crya appeared first, then He made
Mahprabhu, Ka, appear. By Advaita cryas calling Ka
appeared. Therefore it is a very auspicious day so we should speak
something on rla Advaita crya and beg for His mercy. If
He bestows His mercy on us then we can get Caitanya Nitai,
otherwise we cannot.

Advaita crya Is a Bhakta-Avatra

First we should know who Advaita crya is. It is mentioned
in Caitanya-caritmta di-ll,
mah-viur jagat-kart
myay ya sjaty ada
tasyvatra evyam
advaitcrya vara

r Advaita cryas Roaring Call

Lord Advaita crya is the incarnation of Mah-Viu,

whose main function is to create the cosmic world through the
actions of my. (Caitanya-caritmta di-ll 1.12)

advaita haridvaitd
crya bhakti-asant
bhaktvatram a tam
advaitcryam raye
Because He is non-different from Hari, the Supreme
Lord, He is called Advaita, and because He propagates the
cult of devotion, He is called crya. He is the Lord and the
incarnation of the Lords devotee. Therefore I take shelter of
Him. (Caitanya-caritmta di-ll 1.13)

Gaura-gaoddea-dpik states,
bhaktvatra cryodvaito ya r-sadiva
(Gaura-gaoddea-dpik 11)
That means that Advaita crya is a bhakta-avatra.
paca-tattvtmaka ka
bhakta-rpa-svarpakam
bhaktvatra bhaktkhya
nammi bhakta-aktikam
I offer my obeisances unto the Supreme Lord, Ka, who
is non-different from His features as a devotee, devotional
incarnation, devotional manifestation, pure devotee and
devotional energy. (Caitanya-caritmta di-ll 7.6)

r Advaita cryas Roaring Call

Advaita-Tattva
The paca-tattva is bhakta-rpa, bhakta-svarpa, bhaktaavatra, bhaktkhya and bhakti-akti. Bhakta-rpa is Mahprabhu
in the form of a devotee. Bhakta-svarpa is Nitynanda. Bhaktaavatra is Advaita crya. Bhaktkhya is rvsa and bhaktaakti is Gaddhara; paca-tattva. Gaura-gaoddea-dpik states,
bhaktvatra cryodvaito ya r-sadiva. Advaita crya is
bhaktvatra and He is also Sadiva, Sadiva Mah-Viu
avatra. When we say Mah-Viu avatra then Sadiva comes.
This is Advaita crya. This is advaita-tattva. Advaita crya is
such a devotee that He made Ka descend here.

ntipura-Ntha
Advaita cryas fathers name was Kuvera Mira and His
mothers name was rmat Nbhadev. They were first living in
rhatta. Kuvera Paita, the father of Advaita crya, had no
son for a very long period. In his old age he got this son, Advaita
crya. In rhatta district there was a village named Navgrma. That is the birthplace of Advaita crya. He appeared on
this day in the month of Mgha saptami, on the seventh day of the
bright fortnight, Mgha ukla saptami.
After that Kuvera Paita wanted to go and stay on the bank
of the Ganges. He left and shifted his residence from the bank of
the Ganges to ntipura. ntipura is now famous as Advaitas
dhma, ptha. He is also called ntipura-ntha, Lord of ntipura.
When Kuvera Paita performed the nma-karaa, name
giving ceremony of his son, he gave one name Magala and
another name Kamalka, but why is He called Advaita crya
we quoted already from Caitanya-caritmta.

r Advaita cryas Roaring Call

The Two Wives of Advaita crya

Advaita cryas father and mother disappeared when he
was very young. Feeling very distressed he went on pilgrimage
visiting many, many holy places. When He came back, some of
His relatives requested Him to marry. Therefore, at the request of
the relatives He was willing to marry. At that time one very pious
orthodox brhmaa was living there whose name was Nsiha
Vaduri. He had two daughters; their names were r and St.
They were both very beautiful and Advaita crya married both
of them. Thus Advaita crya had two wives; r and St. St
hkur is famous. Advaita crya is also famous as St-ntha
or St-pati because the name of His wife was St hkur.
St hkur is an incarnation of Yogamy, and r dev is
a manifestation of Yogamy. Advaita crya is a Mah-Viu
avatra and in Mah-Viu there is Sadiva therefore we call
Him Sadiva avatra.

I Am Dependent on My Bhakta
When Advaita crya grew up, He saw how the people of this
Kali-yuga are suffering and He could not tolerate it. He thought,
I must make Ka, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, appear
here. Who can make the Supreme Lord appear? It is stated, bhaktera
icchya kera sarva avatra [Cc di 3.112], and bhaktecchopttarpya, [Bhg. 10.59.25] by the desire of His dear devotee the Lord
appears. No one can make the Lord appear. He is not our order
carrier. However He has said, aha bhakta-pardhino. One who is
His very dear devotee, intimate devotee, prema-bhakti, Ka said,
I am dependent on him. I have no independence. Though He is
supremely independent.

r Advaita cryas Roaring Call

In Bhagavad-gt Ka has said, matta paratara nnyat kicid

asti dhanajaya [Bg.7.7], O Dhanajaya, Arjuna, there is no one
superior to Me. Ekale vara ka, ra saba bhtya, Ka is the
only vara. All others are His servants, but that Ka is bhaktavatsala because He is very dear to His devotees, and a prema-bhakti
can bind Him with the rope of love. Therefore it is said in the
ninth canto of rmad Bhgavatam,
aha bhakta-pardhno
hy asvatantra iva dvija
sdhubhir grasta-hdayo
bhaktair bhakta-jana-priya
The Supreme Personality of Godhead said to the
brhmaa, I am completely under the control of My devotees.
Indeed, I am not at all independent. Because My devotees are
completely devoid of material desires, I sit only within the core
of their hearts. What to speak of My devotee, even those who
are devotees of My devotee are very dear to Me. (rmadBhgavatam 9.4.63)

He said this to Durvasa Muni, I have no independence. He,

who is supremely independent, says, I have no independence.
I am bhakta-pardhino, I am dependent on My bhakta. What My
bhakta says I do. So what a dear devotee says Ka does. If a
dear devotee says, Please come down here, then He comes down
here. Bhaktera bhaktera icchya kera sarva avatra [Cc di 3.112],
all incarnations are there by the will of a bhakta, and this is also
mentioned in the verse bhaktecchoptta-rpya paramtman namo
stu te. [SB 10.59.25]
Thus, without the call of His dear devotee Goloka-bihr,
Pra-brahma Ka will never descend here. He never comes
here for ordinary reasons.

In the Bhagavad-gt Ka has said, When there is a rise of
irreligion and when bhgavata-dharma is declining, miscreants,
demons are rising and sdhus, bhaktas are persecuted, at that time I
descend to kill the miscreants and protect the sdhus and establish
bhgavata-dharma. For that purpose His incarnation descends.

Advaita crya Was Crying in His Heart

At one time all the demigods headed by Brahma, went to
the bank of kra-sgara, the milk ocean, and offered prayers to
Ka. By their prayers Ka appeared. Similarly, by the prayers
of Advaita crya, Prema Puruottama Gaurga Mahprabhu
appeared in this material world and manifested His ll. Advaita
crya could not tolerate the suffering of the jvas of Kali-yuga.
He was crying in His heart. Therefore He thought, I must make
the Supreme Lord Ka appear here.
advaita-crya gosi skt vara
yhra mahim nahe jvera gocara

r Advaita cryas Roaring Call

r Advaita crya is indeed directly the Supreme

Personality of Godhead Himself. His glory is beyond the
conception of ordinary living beings. (Caitanya-caritmta
di-ll 6.6)

advaita-crya koi-brahmera kart

ra eka eka mrtye brahmera bhart
r Advaita crya is the creator of millions and millions
of universes, and by His expansions [as Garbhodakay Viu]
He maintains each and every universe. (Caitanya-caritmta
di-ll 6.21

He is vara [the controller], He is non-different from Hari

therefore He is advaita [oneness, non-dual]. Here it says, [referring
to Cc di 1.12-13 above] Advaita crya, because He is nondifferent from Hari, the Supreme Lord, He is called Advaita, and
because He propagates the cult of devotion, He is called crya.
Therefore he is called Advaita crya. Caitanya-caritmta states
the same, advaita-crya gosi skt vara, because He is nondifferent from Hari, skt vara. Yhra mahim nahe jvera
gocara, ordinary jvas cannot understand the glory of Advaita
crya.

He Made a Wonderful Promise

Mah-Viu avatra, He is an incarnation of Mah-Viu, and
therefore He could feel the pains of the jvas here because all jvas
come from Mah-Viu. He was a Mah-Viu avatra, and He
could feel the suffering and pain of the kali-hata jva. He observed
that there was no bhakti in Kali-yuga and therefore He promised,
I must make Ka appear to propagate bhakti.

r Advaita cryas Roaring Call

karimu ka sarva-nayana-gocara
tabe se advaita-nma kera kikara!
I will make Ka appear before the eyes of all, then this
person named Advaita will be known as the servant of Ka.
(Caitanya Bhgavata. di-khaa 11.64)

Advaita crya promised, I must make Ka appear here and

show Ka to every one. If I do not, then I will not be known by
the name Advaita crya, kera kikara, the servant of Ka.
He made this promise. It is a wonderful promise. Who can make
such a promise? Only because He is such a dear devotee He can
make Ka appear. Otherwise no one can make Ka appear.
If I cannot make Ka appear here, if I cannot make Him
manifest here, and cannot show Him to all the people of Kaliyuga, My name is not Advaita crya. Then Ill give up this
name. He made such a promise, a very strong promise. This is a
very wonderful promise. No one has ever heard of such a promise.
No one has made such a promise.

Every Day He Offered Tulas and Gaga-Jala

So every day He was offering worship to lagrma-il with
tulas leaf and gag-jala, and uttering the name of Ka, crying,
crying, and crying.
In Caitanya-caritmta there is a verse quoted from Gautamyatantra vacana,
tulas-dala-mtrea jalasya culukena v
vikrte svam tmna bhaktebhyo bhakta-vatsala
8

r Advaita cryas Roaring Call

r Ka, who is very affectionate toward His devotees, sells

Himself to a devotee who offers Him merely a tulas leaf and a
palmful of water. (Caitanya-caritmta di-lila 3.104)
Every day He was offering tulas leaf and a palmful of gaga-jala,
Ganges water. So He thought of this and He deliberated on this.
He said,
ei lokrtha crya karena vicraa
kake tulas-jala deya yei jana
tra a odhite ka karena cintana
jala-tulasra sama kichu ghare nhi dhana
Advaita crya considered the meaning of the verse in
this way: Not finding any way to repay the debt He owes to
one who offers Him a tulas leaf and water, Lord Ka thinks,
There is no wealth in My possession that is equal to a tulas
leaf and water. Caitanya-caritmta di-lila 3.105-106

tabe tm veci kare era odhana

eta bhvi crya karena rdhana
Thus the Lord liquidates the debt by offering Himself
to the devotee. Considering in this way, the crya began
worshiping the Lord. (Caitanya-caritmta di-lila 3.107)

Every day He was worshipping the Lord in the form of

lagrma-il with tulas leaf and gaga-jala, Ganges water, crying,
crying, crying and uttering the name of Ka and calling in a
roaring voice, Please come down! Please come down!

r Advaita cryas Roaring Call

His Call Entered the Spiritual Sky

One of Advaita cryas names is N. One day Mahprabhu
said Ndair Hukra. Hukra means roaring voice. With a
roaring voice N, Advaita crya, called Me. My seat shook
in My eternal abode so I couldnt stay there; I had to come down
here. He made Me come down.
Ka also had the desire to come down again to teach bhakti.
Yoga-my manifests all lls. So antarag-akti, Yoga-my, was
waiting for Advaita cryas call, Let Advaita crya call.
Advaita crya was calling Him every day with a roaring voice,
while offering worship to lagrma-il. His call penetrated the
seven layers of this material universe, entered into the spiritual
sky and went to Goloka Vndvana. Upon hearing this ll-stradhari, Yoga-my thought, Advaita crya is calling. Now I must
make Ka appear as Gaura. Therefore Prema Puruottama
Gaurga Mahprabhu appeared. This is one of the reasons of
Gauras appearance.

Stntha Made Ka Appear

Bhaktera icchya kera sarva avatra [Cc di 3.112];
bhaktecchoptta-rpya [Bhg. 10.59.25], by the will of His devotee
Ka appears. Who can make Ka appear? A dear devotee can
make Ka appear. Who is bhakta-vatsala? Who is very dear?
Advaita crya is so dear. He is bhakti-avatra. He is a very
intimate devotee. Therefore He, Stntha, made Ka appear.
Mahprabhu appeared with His dhma, with His associates
in this material world. When Mahprabhu appeared in Nadia
as the son of Jaganntha Mira and ac-mt, while staying at
ntipura, Advaita crya could understand, Yes, Mahprabhu

10

r Advaita cryas Roaring Call

has appeared. He first sent his wife St hkur to Navadvpa,

Mypur, to Jagannath Misras house. After that He Himself came
and saw the child. In Caitanya-caritmta it is mentioned,
bhakya, bhojya, upahra, sage la-ila bahu bhra,
ac-ghe haila upanta
dekhiy blaka-hma, skt gokula-kna,
vara-mtra dekhi viparta
When St hkur came to the house of acdev,
bringing with her many kinds of eatables, dresses and other
gifts, she was astonished to see the newborn child, for she
appreciated that except for a difference in colour, the child
was directly Ka of Gokula Himself. (Caitanya-caritmta
di-ll 13.115)

He is skt gokula-ka, Ka directly from Gokula except for

a difference in His complexion; instead of black He is gaura. That
it stated. So this skt gokula-hari, Gokulantha Hari, only has a
different complexion; He is gaura-vara. When Advaita crya
Prabhu saw Him He became very, very happy. Yes, My desire is
fulfilled. I made Ka appear.
In Caitanya-bhgavata also it is mentioned,
ye pjra samaye ye deva dhyna kare
th dekhe cri-dige caraera tale
Those demigods that are meditated on at the time of
worship were all seen surrounding the lotus feet of the Lord.
(Caitanya-bhgavata, Madhya-khaa 6.86)

11

r Advaita cryas Roaring Call

My Birth and Activities Are Crowned with Success

When Advaita crya looked at the child He saw the same
child that He had been meditating upon, while He was daily
offering worship to lagrma-il with gaga-jala and tulas leaf.
Yes, Ka has appeared. He also saw in His meditation all the
demigods who were offering prayers to that Supreme Lord. Seeing
this, Advaita crya became very much ecstatic, blissful and said,
ji se saphala mora dina paraka
ji se saphala haila yata abhila
ji mora janma-karma sakala saphala
skte dekhilu tora caraa-yugala
ghoe mtra cri vede, yre nhi dekhe
hena tumi mora lgi hail parateke
(Caitanya-bhgavata Madhya-kaha 6.100-102)

Today My life has become successful. Advaita crya said,

Because I saw My beloved Lord. Today all My desires were
fulfilled. ji mora janma-karma sakala saphala, Today My birth
and My activities are all crowned with success. skte dekhilu
tora caraa-yugala, I have directly seen Your lotus feet, O My
beloved Lord. Ghoe mtra cri vede, yre nhi dekhe, hena
tumi mora lgi hail parateke, In the four Vedas His glories are
described, but no one sees Him. Yet today I have seen Him. He
has appeared O, My dear Lord, for Me.

Advaita crya Worships rman Mahprabhu

Mahprabhu asked crya, O, crya You offer worship to
Me. Then Advaita crya offered worship at the lotus feet of
rman Mahprabhu. This is mentioned in Caitanya-bhgavata,
prathame caraa dhui suvsita jale
ee gandhe paripra pda-padme hle
He first washed the lotus feet of the Lord with fragrant
water and then smeared them with sandalwood paste.
(Caitanya-bhgavata Madhya-kaha 6.106)

arghyera sahita dil caraa-upari
He dipped tulas-majars in the sandalwood paste and
placed them and the ingredients of arghya on the Lords lotus
feet. (Caitanya-bhgavata Madhya-kaha 6.107)

gandha, pupa, dhpa, dpa, paca upacre

pj kare prema-jale vahe aru-dhre
He worshipped the Lord with five ingredients like
sandalwood paste, flowers, incense, and ghee. As He
worshipped the Lord, tears of love flowed from His eyes.

paca-ikh jvli puna karena vandan

ee jaya-jaya-dhvani karaye ghoa
He offered a lamp with five ghee wicks and again offered
prayers. Finally He loudly chanted, Jaya! Jaya!.

13

r Advaita cryas Roaring Call

While shedding tears of love, prema-aru, He offered pj, lit

paca-pradp and offered rati. In this way He worshiped baby
Gaura Hari. Advaita crya Prabhu offered worship to the lotus
feet of r Gaura Hari according to scriptural evidences and
scriptural methods.

Advaita cryas Prayers to Mahprabhu

At last He offered these prayers to Mahprabhu, which are all
mentioned in Caitanya-bhgavata:
jaya jaya sarva-pra-ntha vivambhara
jaya jaya gauracandra karu-sgara
jaya jaya bhakata-vacana-satyakr
jaya jaya mahprabhu mah-avatr
jaya jaya sindhu-sut-rpa-manorama

jaya jaya hare-ka-mantrera praka
jaya jaya nija-bhakti-grahaa-vilsa
jaya jaya mahprabhu ananta-ayana
jaya jaya jaya sarva-jvera araa
(Caitanya-bhgavata Madhya-kaha 6.114-118)

He offered this prayer unto Mahprabhu. Jaya jaya sarvapra-ntha vivambhara His name is Vivambhara. All glories
to Vivambhara, who is the life and soul of all jvas. Jaya jaya
gauracandra karu-sgara, all glories to Gauracandra, who is an
ocean of mercy.
14

r Advaita cryas Roaring Call

Jaya jaya bhakata-vacana-satyakr, all glories to He who makes

the words of His devotees come true. That is Kas thought,
When My devotee has promised to make Me appear, I must
appear. If I wont appear, then the words of My devotees will be
false. Then no one will be My devotee. Therefore He makes
His dear devotees words come true. Jaya jaya mahprabhu mahavatr, You are the source of all avatras. Because He is Ka
and Ka is the source of all avatras.
Jaya jaya sindhu-sut-rpa-manorama. Sindhu-sut means
Lakmdev. He is as beautiful as Lakmdev; very beautiful.
Jaya jaya rvatsa-kaustubha-vibhuaa, On His chest is rvatsakaustubha.
Jaya jaya hare-ka-mantrera praka, Who spoke the hareka mah-mantra. That Mahprabhu, let Him be glorified.
Jaya jaya nija-bhakti-grahaa-vilsa, Who came to teach His own
bhakti-yoga, let Him be glorified.
Jaya jaya mahprabhu ananta-ayana, Who lies on the bed
of Ananta-nga. That is Mahprabhu, jaya jaya. Jaya jaya jaya
sarva-jvera araa, At whose lotus feet all jvas take shelter, let
that Mahprabhu be glorified.
So these are His jaya-gna [songs of glorification]. In this way
Advaita crya Prabhupda offered many prayers at the lotus feet
of r Gaurasundara.

Advaita cryas Boon

In this way He was offering worship and prayers to baby
Gaura. Much talking was going on between Advaita crya and
Gaurasundara. When the baby was talking, no one else would say
anything. Gaurasundara laughed and said, O crya, I am very
much pleased with Your prayers. You may ask for a boon. It is

15

r Advaita cryas Roaring Call

also mentioned in Caitanya-bhgavata that Advaita crya asked

for this boon:
advaita balaye, yadi bhakti bili
bstr-dra-di yata mrkhere se dib
(Caitanya-bhgavata Madhya-ll 6.167)
Advaita crya said, All right. Please grant Me this boon:
You should give bhakti to one and all; str, women, dras, to those
who are most ignorant fools and to those who are most degraded.
Please give bhakti to one and all. Please give Me this boon. Let it be
granted. When Advaita crya asked for this boon Mahprabhu
granted it. When He accepted Advaita cryas prayer and
granted it, His very intimate devotees could understand that
this boon was granted. At that time, simultaneously they said,
Haribol! Haribol! Haribol!
Gaurahari is karu-sagara, an ocean of mercy, karu-my,
merciful. He makes true what His bhakta has said, bhakta-vacanasatyakr. To those who are dna hna pp pa, He offered that
prema. Brahmra durlabha prema saba kare yche patita pmara
nhi bche, it is not an easy thing even on the part of Brahm
to obtain it. Mahprabhu offered that prema, ka-prema, which
is such a rare attainment, indiscriminately to all patitas (fallen),
pmaras (the most degraded souls), pps (sinful men), pas
(atheists), dna (distressed) and hna (inferior). Thus it is by the
calling of ntipura-ntha, ntipura-pati Advaita crya, that
Mahprabhu appeared. Therefore His appearance day is a very,
very auspicious day.
Jaya karu-my ntipura-pati Advaita crya Prabhu ki jaya!

16

r Advaita cryas Roaring Call

Please shower Your mercy on us most degraded jvas. O,
