SCOPE
1.1

General
This general specification covers the minimum technical requirements for the design,
manufacture, and testing of individual skid-mounted pipeline scraper launcher and receiver
assemblies suitable for installation on oil and gas pipelines. For a specific launcher or
receiver, this Specification shall be used in conjunction with the project specifications and
data sheets for that launcher or receiver. Any exceptions to the requirements of this
specification shall be submitted in writing for resolution by Company.

1.2

Item Definition
The launcher and receiver assemblies provide facilities for launching or receiving scrapers
through connecting pipelines. The assembly may be mounted on a skid as a package
complete with necessary piping, valves, instrumentation, and supporting structure, or it may
be fabricated as part of the pipeline.

Design and Construction

3.2.1

General
3.2.1.1

Unless otherwise specified, the launcher and receiver assemblies shall

be in the horizontal position.

3.2.1.2

Scraper launchers and receivers for pipelines that transport liquid shall
be designed and constructed in accordance with ANSI B31.4, Liquid
Petroleum Transportation Piping System.

3.2.1.3

Scraper launchers and receivers for pipelines that transport gas shall
be designed and constructed in accordance with ANSI B31.8, Gas
Transmission and Distribution Piping Systems.

3.2.1.4

The launcher or receiver body shall be at least one pipe diameter large
than the pipeline or as specified for the project.

3.2.1.5

All internal weds shall be ground flush.
