For example, we can search for

information related to how things fly.
In my research, I learned about a topic
in Physics called aerodynamics. Paper
airplanes can fly because of air. When
things are moving through air, they
experience something called drag. Drag
is the resistance experienced when
moving through air. Therefore, when we

throw an object like an airplane it moves forward

because of the force from our hand and the air
resists this motion and pushes the plane opposite
to the direction of which it was thrown.
Another force that acts on an object flying or
moving through the air on planet earth is gravity.
Gravity is a force that attracts something that has
mass toward the center of earth. The heavier
something is the greater the force of gravity.
The other forces that affect a planes flight or
something being thrown in the air are thrust and lift.
The force called thrust is the forward motion that
the plane experiences from our hand. The lifting
force on a plane comes from the air that pushes the

plane upward more than the air pushing

down because of different air pressure.
These are the four forces that affect the
flight of a plane, Drag, Gravity, Thrust
and Lift.

For a experiment my hypothesis would

bigger wings.

So for this experiment I will be using three

plane models each varying in size. For my
control would be an airplane made of standard
Letter Paper. A control, or constant in an
experiment is something used as a standard to
compare other variable effects. A variable is a
factor that can change in an experiment. Other
planes I will construct will use half a sheet of

letter paper and another with two letter-sized papers joined

with tape.
After designing these planes, I will throw them or thrust
them into the air and compare their flight distance. In every
experiment, there are variables. Variables can be categorized
as independent or dependent. Independent variable are
things that are not affected by other variables. In this case,
the independent variable is the type of paper being used and
the size of the paper. The dependent variable is something
that is affected by other factors, which in this experiment
would be the size of the plane and distance covered.

Thus, based on the results of my

experiment I concluded that the medium
sized airplane or the standard letter
sized paper airplane. This is because the
medium sized plane experienced the
least drag, or air resistance due to its
size.
