SAFETY PRECAUTION:
The Following safety precautions should be taken when using hand tool and equipment.
Precautions are most important for safety from accident
1. Keep proper discipline in the shop.
2. Do not play with the tools because they are sharp.
3. All files should be fitted with suitable handle at the end of file.
4. When using hacksaw, check its teeth should be sharp and forward position.
5. When using hacksaw, check its blade which must be fitted in pins properly.
6. When using chisel its direction should be kept away from other working persons.
7. When files are forward cut, then only apply the force in forward stroke not in backward and
vice versa
8. When using Vernier caliper and micrometer, must check its error.
9. Clean up oil and grease or other liquid which spills on the flour otherwise they may be a
cause of accident.
10. Always wear the apron (optional) and closed shoe (safety shoe)
11. Do not wear any neck tie, jewelry, rings, and watches during in the working in shops.

THEORY:
The bench work means the production of an article by hand on the bench. Fitting is the
assembling together of parts and removing metals to secure the necessary fit, and may or may not
be carried out at the bench. It is seen that there is no clear dividing line between these two parts,
and in most cases they both are concerned, and the parts are used rather loosely.
However, all these two types of work require the use of a large number of tools and equipment and
involve a number of operations to finish the job to the desired shape and size. The operations
commonly used in bench and fitting work may be classified as follows: marking, hacksaw cutting,
filling, punching, drilling and tapping.

PROCEDURE:
1. Mark, cut and file two edges at right angles perfectly straight and level.
2. Cut off surplus material using hacksaw and file to specified dimension, constantly check
with Fitter Square. Check dimensions frequently using Vernier Caliper to ensure
dimensions within limits.
3. File to the required size as specified in the drawing. Check with Fitter Square or surface
plate.
4. Mark dimensions as specified in the drawing, using scribing block and surface plate. Scribe
lines at internal.
5. Mark holes for drilling. Clamp the block in the vice in upright position where center pop
location marking. Drill holes as per drawing and de burr. Countersunk the hole.
6. Continue by hack sawing lines to require length.
7. Remove all burrs.
8. File corners to radius as per drawing.
9. Fine smooth filling is required to ensure quality complete project. Finishing with highly
polish.
10. Final finishing on project, apply oil to surfaces and threads prior to submitting for
assessment by lecturer/ instructor.

RESULT:
1. The Bench work Practice parts are made as required size (Work Piece)

DISCUSSION:
1. State 5 safety precaution when moving around workshop.
2. When filing metal it is a common practice to rub a chalk into the teeth of a clean file. Why?
2. What are the problems that you encountered while doing the project and the defects on
the project?

CONCLUSION:
1. Conclusion based on the objective of the project.

REFERENCES:
1. State at least 5 books reference related on the task given.
ASSESSMENT:
The course assessment comprises two components, namely:
Coursework Assessment (CA) - 100%
Coursework assessments that measures knowledge, practical skills and generic skills are carried
out in the form of continuous assessment. Coursework assessments total score comprises the
knowledge and practical marks ONLY. It does not include the mark of generic skills.
