ABSTRACT
The word entrepreneur comes from the French word which is entrepremdre. In other
words, entrepreneur means that someone who exercises initiative by organizing a venture
to take benefit of an opportunity and, as the decision maker, decides what, how, and how
much of a good or service will be produced. An entrepreneur supplies risk capital as a
risk taker, and monitors and controls the business activities. The entrepreneur is usually a
sole proprietor, a partner, or the one who owns the majority of shares in an incorporated
venture.Apart from that, entrepreneurship means the capacity and willingness to develop,
organize and manage a business venture along with any of its risks in order to make a
profit. The most obvious example of entrepreneurship is the starting of new businesses. In
economics, entrepreneurship combined with land, labor, natural resources and capital can
produce profit. Entrepreneurial spirit is characterized by innovation and risk-taking, and
is an essential part of a nation's ability to succeed in an ever changing and increasingly
competitive global marketplace. Mrs Hajjah Faiza Bawumi Sayed Ahmad is one of the
best entrepreneurship icon in Malaysia. She is the owner of the rice wholesaler States
Faiza Sdn Bhd. All her success stories are very interesting and can be take as a
motivation to everyone who really want to becaome a successful entrepreneur just like
her. Syarikat FAIZA was established in 1982, doing retail activities as its core business.
In 1992, Syarikat FAIZA officially being incorporated under Syarikat FAIZA Sdn. Bhd
(SFSB) and went into venture capital with Padiberas Nasional (BERNAS) in 1997.

Mrs Hajjah Faiza Bawumi Sayed Ahmad is the owner of the rice wholesaler
States Faiza Sdn Bhd. In 1964, the Egyptian-born woman has been coming to

Malaysia following her husband. She tooks only three months to be able to speaks
in Malay Language fluently as she was very friendly and sociable with her
neighbours and friends in Malaysia. Today, Mrs Faiza is a mother to seven
children and already have 32 grandchildren. However, she is still busy working on
a strategy to strengthen her position in various branches of business in this
country.
This rural woman is actually a gentle firmness. She wants to ensure that the
company established must always be on the right track. Mrs Faiza is a very
determined woman. She does not ever think that her experience as a cashier in her
fathers groceries shop a long time ago, have been a platform for her to push her
to involve her seriously in the entrepreneurship field. According to Mrs Faiza,
success is not something that can be easily achieved. She puts all her efforts and
have been through a lot of challenging experiences for 43 years in the business
world before she can stand as who she is today.
After migrating to Malaysia with her husband, Mrs Faiza started sewing the
embroidery with only RM4 capital and sell various groceries. Besides that, she
also buy fabrics and make clothes for kids in her neighbourhood. Then, she
produced a set of pillowcases. After that, she engaged an encyclopedia set,
followed by business tableware. Through small scale business, she has saved up
money as capital to continue to next business capital.
Mrs. Faiza has interested in the production of curry spices. So, she bought various
spices such as coriander, cumin, fenugreek, dried chilies, cloves and many other
spices to be mix as an ingredients to produce the curry fish and meat under the
brand of Bunga Raya. A few years later, Mrz Faiza bought another grinding
machine and opened a grocery store. She began to study various types of rice and
then she apply for a rice wholesaler license. After that, she started selling various
types of rice including ponni rice, basmati rice, fragrant and Siam rice.

Learned from the experiences, Mrs Faiza had improvised the recipes to suit the
taste of Malaysian. This show that she has a decisive nature in which she try to get
the recipes appropriated to achieve her wish to continue her business. Now, she
already has 20 products in its business selling spices. Faiza spices has become one
of the most trusted household brand name throughout the region, under the tagline
hygiene and quality. The most popular brands are Faiza Raja Curry, Faiza Curry,
Faiza Beriani and Faiza Bukhari.

In the old age, Mrs Faiza still actively manage her business. She is assisted by
five out of seven children in addition to hundreds of workers. Currently, she is
doing charity work under UMNO womens movement Batu Pahat, Johor.

Mrs Hajjah Faiza Bawumi binti Sayed Ahmad is a local entrepreneur. She is a
founder and also the Managing Director of Faiza Marketing. in 1998 Faiza
Marketing Sdn. Bhd. (FMSB) was incorporated and Mrs. Najwa Abu Bakar
(Daughter of Mrs Hajjah Faiza) was the person who works tirelessly to spread the
wing in marketing and manufacturing a wide range of spices product, to where it
is now. Nowadays, with more than 20 types of products and proper promotion
channel, FAIZA spices has become one of the most trusted household brand
name throughout the region, under the tagline Hygiene & Quality. The most
popular brand is Faiza Raja Curry, Faiza Curry, Faiza Beriani and Faiza Bukhari.

2.2 CONTRIBUTION
Despite her success, Faiza does not forget the poor and needy. Having a soft spot
for single mothers, her companies sponsor the TV3 charity programme
Bersamamu that highlights the plight of the poor and needy. She is also planning
to set up a foundation, Yayasan Faiza to reach more people.
Over the years, Faizas business success as well as her social work has earned her
numerous recognition. Among them the 2010 Tokoh Maulidur Rasul award and
the 2011 SME Banks Top Entrepreneur award.
3.0 ENTREPRENEURIAL LESSONS
Through her biography, we learned that Mrs Hajjah Faiza Bawumi Sayed Ahmad has her
own entrepreneurial qualities such as committed and persistent, time competence,
achievement oriented, good physical strength and creative.

3.4 GOOD PHYSICAL STRENGTH

work hard, not easily discouraged and should adopt austerity measures.
Eventhough every effort in a business was began on a small scale, it cannot be
underestimated because the hardship can build the sense of immunity to
entrepreneurs.
3.5 CREATIVE
In the late 90s shoppers began assessing more closely the processing and other
properties of edible products. At that particular time, the company was introduce a
unique category of herbal quality rice from the state of Kartanaka, South India. It
was the Herbal "Ponni" rice. Looking to blow for a million, Mrs Faiza and her
team immediately recognized the intrinsic benefits rice consumers would derive
with "Ponni" rice in their diet. Today under the brand name Taj Mahal, Ponni rice
has been distributed throughout Malaysia.
5.0 CONCLUSION
Every single entrepreneur has their own personality qualities or entrepreneurial skills
that unconcealed. They run their organization well by following their existing skills and
qualities that we can learn in advancing our own lives. The great success story of Mrs
Hajjah Faiza Bawumi Sayed Ahmad make us realize that success is not something that
can be easily achieved if we do not try to go against challenges and be ambitious to be a
great person in future. Mrs Faiza has proved to everyone that her sacrifices in past make

her being who she is today. All the entrepreneurial lessons shown by her can actually
inspire all the women in Malaysia to be success like her. Hopefully, there will be many
other successful entrepreneurs can be develop in this country in future.
