A polyhedron is simply a three-dimensional solid which consists of a collection of polygons,

usually joined at their edges. The word derives from the Greek poly (many) plus the IndoEuropeanhedron (seat). A polyhedron is the three-dimensional version of the more
general polytope (in the geometric sense), which can be defined in arbitrary dimension. The
plural of polyhedron is "polyhedra" (or sometimes "polyhedrons").

A convex polyhedron can be formally defined as the set of solutions to a system of linear
inequalities

Where is a real
matrix and is a real -vector. Although usage varies, most authors
additionally require that a solution be bounded for it to define a convex polyhedron. An example
of a convex polyhedron is illustrated above.

A general prism is a polyhedron possessing two congruent polygonal faces and with all
remaining faces parallelograms. A right prism is a prism in which the top and bottom polygons
lie on top of each other so that the vertical polygons connecting their sides are not only
parallelograms, but rectangles (right figure). A prism that is not a right prism is known as an
oblique prism. If, in addition, the upper and lower bases are rectangles, then the prism is known
as a cuboid.
The volume of a prism of height and base area is simply

The cube is the Platonic solid (also called the regular hexahedron). It is composed of
six square faces that meet each other at right angles and has eight vertices and 12 edges.
A cube with unit edge lengths is called a unit cube.
The surface area and volume of a cube with edge length are

A cone is a pyramid with a circular cross section. the word "cone" is taken to mean
"double cone," i.e., two cones placed apex to apex. The double cone is a quadratic
surface, and each single cone is called a " nappe." The hyperbola can then be defined as
the intersection of a plane with both nappes of the cone.
