6. Significance of the Study

Health promotion is frequently linked to disease prevention. These are
vital activities that help a society maintain a well-functioning , long-lived
population. Health promoters believe that if we accept scientific opinion
regarding health and adopt specific health-enhancing practices , we will
become healthy. Promotion of desirable health may become increasingly
important as society acknowledges the rapidly rising cost of medical
technology. Many influential people are concerned about the economic
burden and are beginning to call for health promotion activities in schools
and workplace. It is noteworthy that the ounce of prevention philosophy
is increasingly espoused . There is greater willingness to accept the notion
that health promotion activities are worthwhile. This study, then, assumes to
have the following gains:
The findings can give the health planners and promoters a picture of
health on the school population as its health-enhancing practices and
attitudes are looked into and appraised. Results will give some insights that
will serve as basis in creating better strategies in the delivery of health
promotion activities in schools.
The study will provide some valuable information regarding healthrelated behaviors of individuals in schools and /or in the workplace. In
some way , the findings may serve as an eye opener of the personnel and
students who have been manifesting negative health behavior. Thus,
formulate some health behavior change activities for a satisfying and
healthful lifestyle.

The term empowerment has
been recognized and discussed
within the health

literature.
In the context
of
health , empowerment refers to a
process in which individuals or
groups of people gain increasing
measures
of control over their
health. To take control of health
matters, people or groups must
learn to liberate themselves
from a variety of barriers that tend
to restrict health enhancement,
including the complicated and
expensive health care system,
limited access to health care or
fitness facilities, the fear of
discovering
illness or serious
health condition, and the concern
that one might be viewed as a
health nut
When people empower
themselves to overcome these
barriers, they begin to take charge
of their lives, regardless
of the
current forces that discourage

Empowered people do not blame
