LEAD Africa Fellowship Programme Manager

LEAD Africa is part of the global LEAD network (Leadership for


Environment and development) and is the platform for the African
LEAD programmes. Its mission is to promote leadership and change
for sustainable development through capacity building, policy
dialogue and advocacy, practical action projects (climate
change, ICT4D, Ecohealth etc.) and promoting a balanced image
of Africa. The main LEAD Africa activity is the LEAD Africa Fellowship
Programme.

The LEAD Africa Fellowship Programme is a leadership and


sustainable development training programme delivered in
partnership with LEAD International, the Shell Foundation and other
strategic partners. The programme aims to train over 500 mid-
career leaders each year from different sectors, cultures and
countries across the continent in both leadership skills and
sustainable development. These leaders will then become part of a
pan-African leaders network that will continue to work together for
a prosperous, socially equitable and environmentally sustainable
African future.

LEAD Africa is now seeking a Programme Manager for the LEAD


Africa Fellowship Programme.
The position is based in Dakar, Senegal and is coordinated by the
LEAD Africa coordinator.

Job description
• Ensure effective delivery of the LEAD Africa Fellowship
Programme
• With the Member Programmes, develop and ensure the
implementation of the Operations Plan, as agreed by LEAD
Africa Steering Committee for the LEAD Africa Fellowship
Programme
• Contribute to increasing the visibility and standardizing the
marketing materials and the recruitment process of LEAD
Africa Fellowship programme
• Manage the overall evaluation of the LEAD Africa Fellowship
Programme
• Oversee and report to the LEAD Africa Steering Committee
on the LEAD Africa Fellowship programme master budget
with the member programmes to ensure long term
sustainability of the programme.
• Develop management systems and standardized processes
that maximise efficiency and effectiveness and timely
delivery
• Ensure session workbook is kept up to date and standardized,
with the Learning Advisory Board and member programmes
• Ensure a high quality platform and facilitate a active pan
African fellows network
• Active networking around the fellowship programme
activities with other LEAD organisations and initiatives around
the world.
• With the LEAD Africa coordinator, report to the LEAD Africa
Steering Committee for the LEAD Africa Fellowship
Programme (SCLA)

Experience and Qualifications required


Essential
• Hold minimum Masters Degree from a recognised university
• Minimum 6 years experience in programme management
and sustainable development, possibly at the regional level,
and preferably in an international organization/non-
governmental organization with training programmes and
networking activities
• Strong information and communication technology skills
• Capable of ensuring and facilitating the coordination and
collaboration of diverse network groups.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with
international and local expert staff (team player, good
reporting skills)
• Experience in organizing and facilitating large scale
workshops and e-conferences.
• Knowledge of leadership and sustainability issues in an
African context
• Fluency in French and English
• Proactive and flexible

• Initial contract term 3 month trial, followed by 1 year contract
with the possibility of extension.
