Tanjung Rhu written by Mingfong Ho is about the

relationship of Mr. Li a successful businessman
with his mother, who is always thinking of her
life in the past living in Tanjung Rhu. . One of
the interesting character in this story is Ah
Ma, Mr. Lis mother.

Ah Ma, is a typical traditional Chinese woman

who still believes in the prayers and paying
respect to the dead. Her memories of the old
Tanjung Rhu is still very clear in her mind.

She refuses to use the binoculars that Mr. Li

buys for her. In her mind, she insists on seeing
the old Tanjung Rhu. She is a lady with a very
strong principle. Her life is full of sweet
memories of those days.

difficulty convincing his mother to study in
America. He is a smart boy and does not want
to lose the chance to study abroad. One of the
moral values found in this story is about
the importance of education.

Captain Nobody written by Dean Pitchford is
about Newton Newman a.k.a Newt a 10 year
old boy who lives in the shadow of his famous
brother,Chris. Often neglected, his friends Cecil
and JJ are always his constant companion. There
are many interesting events in this novel. One of
it is, when Captain Nobody @ Newt tries to
save Reggie Ratner from the Appleton
water tower.
Newt finds out about Reggie Ratner from the
news on the television at school. He claims that
he knows the truth about the Big Tackle
incident.
He goes up the tower and manages to talk
about the Big Game and other series of events
with Reggie. The truth is, Reggie Ratner wants
to vandalise the water tank. Unfortunately his
left foot is stuck and he needs someone to untie
his shoelace.
In the end, both of them lose their balance and
fall down.
Luckily there is an inflated rubber mattress on
the ground.

I respect Newt because he wants to tell the
truth about the Big Tackle to Reggie.
Even though he is afraid of heights, he insists on
climbing the water tower. In life, we should be
brave to admit our mistakes and move on.
This is an interesting event because, after the
incident, Newt is admitted into the same room
as his brother due to the injury. This has given
him the chance to be with his beloved brother.
He is glad that his brother Chris is finally awake.
Newt also gets the attention that he has never
experienced before.
