Heel Flap:
Knit 16 stitches. Transfer remaining stitches from needle one onto needle 2 (instep needle).
Turn work and purl back the 16 stitches, then purl 16 more stitches from needle 3. Transfer
remaining stitches from needle 3 to needle 2. You should have 32 stitches on each of your two
remaining needles.
Row 1 (Right Side): *Slip one stitch purlwise, K1*.
Repeat from * to * across the heel flap.
Row 2 (Wrong Side): Slip the first stitch purlwise with the yarn in front,
purl the remaining stitches
Repeat rows 1 and 2 fifteen more times, for a total of 32 rows, ending with a Wrong Side row. You
should have 16 chain stitches along each side of the heel flap.
Turn Heel:
Knit 18, ssk, K1, turn work.
Slip 1 purlwise, purl 5, p2tog, P1, turn work.
Row 1: Slip 1 purlwise, knit until 1 stitch before the
gap, ssk, K1, turn work.
Row 2: Slip 1 purlwise, purl until 1 stitch before the
gap, p2tog, P1, turn work.
Continue until all stitches have been worked. 18
stitches remain.
Heel Gusset:
Knit across the remaining 18 stitches of the heel flap. Using the same needle, pick up and knit 16
stitches along the heel flap. Pick up an extra stitch in the corner to avoid a hole. This will be needle
one.
With a new needle, knit across the 32 instep stitches. This will be needle two.
With a new needle, pick up and knit a stitch in the corner of the heel flap, then pick up and knit
another 16 stitches along the edge of the heel flap, then using the same needle, knit across 9 stitches
from needle 1. This will be needle three.
You should now have 26 stitches each on needle 1 and needle 3, and 32 stitches on needle 2.
Knit one round in stockinette.
Reduction Round:
Knit to the last three stitches on needle 1, k2tog, K1.
Knit across needle 2.
K1, ssk, knit to end on needle 3.
Alternate a reduction round and a plain round until 16 stitches remain on needles 1 and 3.
Foot:
Knit in stockinette until your sock measures 2 less than your desired sock length.
Toe:
Reduction Round:
Needle 1: Knit to the last three stitches, k2tog,
K1
Needle 2: K1, ssk, knit to the last three stitches,
k2tog, K1
Needle 3: K1, ssk, knit to the end
Alternate reduction rounds and plain rounds until 32
stitches remain, then knit reduction rounds EVERY
round until 12 stitches are left.
Using needle 3, knit the three stitches of needle 1. Graft the stitches from needle 3 and needle 2
together using kitchener stitch. Weave in ends. Knit another sock!
