Good morning Mr Mahoney and Class.

-My story is called Cane Breaker, and was written by Mohammed

Mrabet.
-First I will tell you a little bit about the author himself
-Then I will talk about Morocco, the country he came from.
-And finally I will talk about the story.
Mohammed Mrabet
-famous Moroccan storyteller.
-born in a northern Moroccan mountainous village, 1936
-shortly moved to the larger city of Tangier after he was born.
- His stories were told orally to his good friend Paul Bowles
- Paul would write them down and translate them into English.
-Mohammed Mrabet is mostly remembered as a storyteller
-but he did had another exceptional hobby art.
-His favourite mediums were ink, and gouache paint.
-Exhibitions of his works have spread as far as Europe and America.
Morocco
-the country Mohammed Mrabet was born in.
-Approximately 450 000 squared kilometres in area
- the Kingdom of Morocco is slightly larger than California
-. It is located in the top left corner of Africa.
-There are generally three different types of land found in Morocco
-Coastal Plains, Mountains and Deserts.
The capital city of Morocco is Rabat.
-Names of other major cities located in Morocco include: Casablanca
and Tangier.
-Of the 32 million people who live in Morocco
- 99.99% are Muslim, and the official language is Arabic.
-Morocco is the setting for the University of Al Karaouine,
- the oldest university in the world that has been a centre of
knowledge for over 1 000 years.
-The cuisine in Morocco is quite is diversified- thanks to a huge range of outside influence including
-Spanish, Turkish, African, Jewish, Arab and many more.
-Spices plays a large role in Moroccan food,-Morocco is one of places in the world where you can find
-the most expensive spice in the world saffron.
-The most well known dish from Morocco is couscous.
-Trance, rock and metal music are ever growing in popularity in
Morocco.

The Canebreak, the title of my story, is set in Morocco.

- Although it doesnt say it out right that this story is set in Morocco,
-there are subtle hints that suggest this setting, including
- the use of the world kif which is Moroccan slang for
Cannibis/Marijuana.
The Main Characters in the Canebreak are:
Kacem gets drunk every night, and wont ever let his wife leave
the houseno matter how much she entreats or argues with him.
-He is paranoid his wife will cheat on him.
Kacems Wife Really wants to go to the Hammam to bathe.
Also wants to have fun in bed with her husband
- but Kacem is always too drunk at night and ignores her.
Stito Kacems best friend, who comes to Kacems house
-every night to eat dinner with him and his wife.
Smokes kif on a regular basis.
The Setting
The story is set in a small Moroccan town
the two location inside that town where the story develops are
-the caf, and Kacems house.
Mohammed Mrabet gives no indication of the time the story
happens.
The Voice
This story is told through a third person view.
The Plot
The story follows Kacem and Stito,
-who go to Kacems house every night to eat dinner.
-Every night, By the time Stito is ready to leave, Kacem is very, very
drunk
- After Stito leaves, Kacems wife kisses Kacem,
- and has the desire to make love
- but Kacem is too drunk to notice and ends up falling asleep.
-Every night, Kacems wife cries herself to sleep.
So she devises a plan and tells Stito to come to the house alone,
and hide in the canebreak.

After Stito arrives, she pretends to work at the edge of the

canebreak.
She bends over to reveal nakedness behind, while still covering up
her front.
Stito then pleasures himself, and ejaculates in Kacems wifes hand.
She then walks into the house, and asks Kacem
if she can go to the hamman, while he answers no, for the
thousandth time.
Kacems Wife drips what she has been holding in front of Kacem.
He wasnt drunk anymore!
The next day, Kacem smoked kif for the first time.
Instead of being drunk and grouchy, he was calm and collected.
That night, they all laughed and talked,
Kacems Wife was allowed to go to the Hamman to bathe,
and that night Kacem and his wife made love for the first time
since they got married.
So in the end it was a win-win situation for everyone.
Theme
The theme of the story was probably about paranoia.
Kacem was so paranoid about his wife going out of the
house and cheating on him,
that he forbid her to leave the house at all.
But when his wife showed him that she still could get whatever she
wanted,
he loosened up, smoked kif, and everyone had a happy ending.
