Reflection Paper #1
The most interesting learnings from the prehistoric age and Egyptian age,
to me, are the Stonehenge, Gobekli Tepe and the pyramids of Giza.
Before learning about the Stonehenge, it meant nothing to me. A few
questions about who built it and why it exists often came to mind, but these
questions never lasted long enough to pique my curiosity. Upon watching
the documentary, I was startled to find that it gave me more questions than
answers. I had not bothered to wonder about the size of these stones, nor
how these stones had gotten to be placed that way. The accuracy of the
architecture amazes meand to consider the fact that this was built during
the prehistoric age amazed me even more. Another thing that caught me
was its alignment to the sunrise of the summer solstice and the sunset of
the winter solstice. The Stonehenge was no longer just stones, but one of
the most important structures that the world has seen.
I had the same feeling for Gobekli Tepe. The sizes of the stones remind me
of the Stonehenge, but it was built way before it. The intricate structures
embedded on the stones of Gobekli Tepe are also noteworthy. It is
astounding how man can make these markings in the absence of a ladder
and modern technology. Also, the very fact that humans whom, in contrast
to modern men, know very little about the way things work are able to think
of such complex structures changes my image of prehistoric men. From
what I know now, I believe prehistoric men are knowledgeable, but the fact
that they mainly focus on religion and superstition prevents their
development.

Surely most, if not all, know about the pyramids of Giza. I was very drawn to
it as a child, but I knew nothing about it. The likely reason for my interest in
pyramids was because it is a triangle that is many times my size. Back then,
I did not know that the three great pyramids of Giza were similar to Orions
belt, nor did I know the accuracy of the architecture, nor its fascination with
the constellation Orion (even in the Kings Chambers, it can be seen). I
noticed that Egyptians express the importance of their religious beliefs even
from their structures, like the previous two structures I have mentioned. It
goes to show how important religion is during these eras.
Since then, I have made a trip to these places a part of my bucket list. All
these newfound knowledge make me realize the little man knows about the
world and how much there is yet to discover. I think that modern men are
mistaken on the thought that prehistoric men are unintelligent. The very
idea that these men are the foundation of our architecture, technology,
economy (and many more) suggests otherwise. Also, it made me realize the
little attention I give to important things. Upon realizing this, I make it a
point to learn a little more about intriguing thoughts.
