Summary
The Australians At War kiosk is effectively a branded, themed version of the generic video
kiosk ($6500) produced by Page 2 Productions. The unit is fully customisable in terms of
design and content but any alterations will result in added costs. The quoted price includes
purchase of the kiosk and licenses for the video content, meaning the videos produced for
the kiosk can be used as part of other displays, talks etc. without requiring the use of the unit
(can be uploaded onto tablets, PCs). The monitor comes with a three year warranty; all other
parts have a one year warranty.
Content
A series of five videos detailing Australian involvement in war from WWI to the present day.
Each video runs for 5-6 minutes and features professional narration, music and high
resolution still images, incorporating 2.5 dimension animation technology. More videos are to
be produced focusing on specific battles and different aspects of warfare, with shorter
running times (2-3 min) for the new videos. The purchase of this additional package will be
$2500-$3000.
Incorporating Local Content
One of the best features of the kiosk is the ability to customise the unit with local content.
This includes the cover of the unit which can be changed from the generic Lest We Forget
motif as appears in the brochure to meet the users needs (e.g. Willoughby City Council
logo). Local image, video and sound content can also be uploaded and incorporated into the
menu screens of the display. Photographs from Picture Willoughby and selections from the
oral history are the most obvious examples of library content which could be uploaded to the
kiosk.
NOTE: Only Page 2 Productions are able to upload content to the kiosk, meaning that the
user would need to send it to the production house in order to get it included. This will
naturally incur extra cost, as well as a time delay in updating the kiosks content. The cost
will vary depending on the detail of the job in question, but production rates are $180 per
hour, so this can be considered a base rate.

Case Study
Hills Shire Council has purchased a kiosk for use in Castle Hill library. They have expressed
interest in adding local content but as yet no finalised plans have been implemented.
Recommendation
We do not recommend the purchase of the Australians at War kiosk. The difference in price
between this model and Page 2s generic kiosk is up to $7500, for what amounts to only
(approx.) one hour of video content. The video content is basically stylised still photographs
to give the illusion of movement and there are many photographs not relating to Australians.
The quality and amount of the content is also low as is expected in a 5 minute video
covering for example WW II. The Kiosk only gives a very brief overview of Australians at War
and is not of value to students for assignments etc. This, along with the costs involved with
uploading local content to the unit suggest there is little cost benefit in making this purchase.
