PREFACE
This module is a project of the Curriculum Implementation Division
particularly the Learning Resource Management and Development Unit,
Department of Education, Schools Division of Abra. The production of this
learning material is in response to the implementation of the K-12 Curriculum.
This is a sole property of the Department of Education, Schools Division of
Abra CID-LRMDS. This material aims to improve pupils performance
specifically Science IV ON PLANTS.

Overview/Rationale
God created plants because they are
useful to us. There are plants that serve as our
medicine. Some of them serve to beautify our
surroundings. Some of them use for animals foods,
and most of all, we need them as our foods too.
To maintain them alive, we, the highest
creature, we should know how to take care of them
because they have great role not only to us people
but for the whole world too.

LESSON:
Terrestrial plants are plants that grow on land. Some terrestrial plants are
small but others are big too. There are plants with big trunks while others have soft
stem. Other plants bear flowers while others do not bear flowers.
Terrestrial plants grow in different places. There are plants that grow directly
on the soil while others grow on rocks. Other plants cling to the fence while the
most number in the field. Plants living in different places are exposed to varied
conditions however; their structures are suited to particular needs.
Shapes and sizes of the leaves are also important for survival. Plants like
bananas produce big, broad leaves to efficiently trap more energy. Plants with
waxy leaves help to protect themselves from dehydration as a result of too much
exposure to the sunlight. Some plants have also developed structures to store water
especially in the desert; cactus is the best example of desert plant.
Roots of the plants adopt themselves to their habitat at these characteristics;
they differ in sizes and shapes too. These characteristics ones determined by their
functions.
Aquatic plants are plants that have adapted to living with in aquatic
environments. They are also referred to as hydrophyte plants. These plants
require special adaptations for living in water or as the water surface. Aquatic
plants can only grow in water or in soil that is permanently saturated with water.

Application:
Give/enumerate terrestrial and aquatic plants found in your barangay. What
will you do to protect these plants?
