The assignments and discussions we have in class has allowed me to
transition from my high school state of mind. I have been able to freely discuss new
topics and my eyes have been opened to new topics and perspectives. In class
when we discuss the various readings we have done we always go deeper and make
connections to our personal lives. Hearing everyones different backgrounds and the
different ways in which we all connect to one topic is very interesting to me. In
addition when we sometimes get off topic and go deeper in conversation, bringing
up more controversial topics has made me more interested in exploring my
semester long project.
The topic I have selected for my semester long project is the various aspects
of rape. While I know this is a very hard topic to cover and discuss I feel as though it
would give my partner and I the opportunity to shine light on keys points as well as
educate our audience. The deep discussions we have in class inspired me to pick
such a controversial topic as well as the fact that now that I am in college I am not
limited to the topics I can discuss. I have incorporated my rhetorical knowledge in
this project by knowing how to formulate the right questions to ask when
interviewing so that I can get the answer I need for my research. Also I have used it
just to know how to word certain information that we will come across where they
will get the raw truth but not go overboard.

While finding the right was to discuss rape will be hard some of the research
has brought challenges as well. One of the points we would like to touch on is how
to prevent rape. This has presented challenges because its hard to tell people how
to not get raped. In some cases it is a power struggle whether it be physical or
mental and the victim could not help it. While we have researched and found some
solutions, it has been very difficult to find the amount of sources and information we
need to support this part of our topic. Another part of our topic that wasnt very
challenging but caused me to think more critically was the psychology behind rape.
When researching the source will bring you to an answer as to why people
rape/allow abuse to happen, I had to ask other questions to bring me further along
in my research to get me closer to the answer I am looking for. Overall while I have
encountered challenges our discussions in class have made me very interested in
my topic. This has positioned me into a good point in my research for the project
and has built a good foundation.
