HEALTHCARE THAT CARES PROGRAM

PRESS RELEASE
Healthcare that cares program announces the benefits of the MMR Vaccine
(10.0)
Washington DC, August 6, 2016:

Did you know the MMR vaccine is the one and only safe vaccine
approved by the FDA as prevention against the measles and mumps disease?
Join us at National Institute of Health (NIH) Tuesday, August 9 2016 to learn more about the
MMR vaccine. The healthcare that cares program will be hosting a free seminar for parents of all
ages. The purpose of the seminar is to educate the public about the MMR vaccine and to answers
to questions you may have. This seminar will have a panel of pedestrians and researchers to
provide an open an open discussion. This event is open to the general public.
In the United States over the past few years there has been an increase in the number of
outbreaks of mumps and measles cases. The measles virus is an enveloped, ribonucleic acid
virus that is highly contagious, and an infected person will often transmit the virus to over 90%
of unprotected close contacts.1A typical rash appears after another 3-4 days, spreading from the
face and neck to the trunk and extremities.2 Mumps is a viral infection of humans, primarily
affecting the salivary glands spreading through direct contact or by airborne droplets from the
upper respiratory tract of infected individual. The Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccine is very
safe, and it is effective at preventing measles, mumps, and rubella.

There has been controversy if there is a connection between the MMR vaccine and autism
spectrum disorder (ASD). Author Mark Moran explains there is no linkage to autism and refutes the
popular belief with evidence from retrospective cohort study with insured children who have been
enrolled in health plan form birth to the age of 5. The study advised out of 95,727 children in the
cohort, 994 (1.04 percent) children had ASD diagnosed during follow-up and 1,929 (2.01 percent) had
an older sibling with ASD and there was no statistically significant risk for ASD associated with the
MMR vaccine at any age.3 Based on the findings in this article there is no association with the MMR
and autism.
