Plantorama!
Undesirable Behavior:
A student continuously getting out of their seat interferes with learning because it leads to an interruption in
class with other students and the teacher.
Desirable Behavior:
The teacher and student will agree that positive out of seat behavior will be allowed if the students sits for a
desired amount of time during teacher instruction. After being instructed to sit in their seats for
approximately 10-15 minutes, students will be able to get rewarded for out of seat behavior.
Types of positive reinforcements - Reinforced when & how?
1. Immediate R+ The students will be able to receive a sticker for staying seated in their assigned area for the
required amount of time during teacher instruction.
2. Ongoing R+ For every 20 stickers any student receives, the whole class will earn a piece of the materials
required to make the parts of a plant, using visual cues on the board to show students the different steps
to take.
3. Overall R+ - Plantorama! Students building their own group plant.
4. During Science instruction, students will be administered to stay in their seated area (chair or on carpet)
during instruction time. For immediate R+, teacher will place 1 sticker on each students desk, when students
are doing what they are told during a 6-week period. For ongoing R+, every 20 stickers any student receives,
the whole class will earn a piece of the materials required to make the parts of a plant. Teacher will keep track
of the amount of stickers per student using a data sheet.
Interactive Learning Activity
Science TEKS (1.10B): Identify and compare the parts of plants
Assign students certain materials and have them make the parts of a plant as a group. A student that earned 20
stickers will be given 1visual material to place on the outline of a 2 liter bottle that explains the parts of a
plant on the board.
Explain HOW you will Teach the Desired Behaviors:
o The teacher will verbally explain what she wants the students to do and model it. The teacher will
expect the students to apply what they learned from the teacher.
Explain HOW you will Teach the Plan:
1. Before instruction, the teacher will explain the purpose behind sitting in your seat.
2. Teacher will model how he/she expects their students to sit in their assigned seating area when
he/she is teaching instruction at the front of the classroom.
3. Students, who sit in their seated area during instruction, will receive a sticker as their reward.
4. Teacher will explain the overall goal for the students.
5. 20 stickers = 1 material added to the parts of a plant diagram. Students will have up to 5 weeks to
see the progression of the parts of a plant outline. If able to complete all of the materials during
the 5 weeks, in cooperative groups, students will create their own plant and watch it grow.
Provide options
Tell how you might implement plan across Class Periods (secondary level) OR adjustments you may need to
make to extend the original plan for another behavior.
o I would add Science TEK (1.2E) communicate observations and provide reasons for explanations
using student-generated data from simple descriptive investigations, for when students are explaining
the process that a plant goes through.
o I could change the Immediate R+ to tally marks, and for every 20 tally marks a student receives, all
students will be able to sit in a different seating area during instruction as their Ongoing +
Reinforcement.
