TUCK SHOP NEWS Thanks to the generous

donation from Ian Beever, a new tuck shop is to
be located next to the pavilion. Tuck shops are
already in place at other cricket clubs and, as well
as providing a welcome facility for junior players
& parents, they are believed to generate a
significant contribution to club funds.
The stocking of the shop (sweets, crisps, soft
drinks, etc.) is expected to be handled by the bar
committee, but volunteers are required to staff the
shop during junior practice sessions and matches.
If you could possibly offer some of your time to serve in the shop - either regularly or
occasionally - or perhaps to coordinate the staffing, Russell Perry would be delighted to hear
from you on 07947 524204 or via russell.perry@csgclaims.com .

Wear your Tynemouth Colours

Team kit for the First X1 and Second X1 is available. Both of these teams are required to have
Colour clothing for the 20/20 competitions so, as a club, we ordered sufficient sets of kit for
both teams. The pack contains one 20/20 top, one white playing shirt, one white SS Jumper,
and one cap. The cost of these is £50 per pack and we would be grateful if all First and Second
X1 players were to buy these from the club. Payment details will be made available when the
kit arrives. A "splash top" will also be made available at a later date. For all other players who
would like to order Tynemouth CC kit you can go online at CF Sports and if you enter
"Tynemouth" in the relevant search box you will be directed to their page for our specific kit.
Questions should be directed to Graeme Hallam: Graeme.Hallam@googlemail.com .
Tynemouth Earn a Draw with South Northumberland
Tynemouth’s First XI hosted South Northumberland at Preston Avenue on a glorious day
with the visitors batting first against the attack of Shahid Nazir and David Hymers. Openers J
Graham and Adam Heather
were up to the challenge
with the pacemen bowling to
an array of slips in an
aggressive Tynemouth
approach to the game.
However, it was not until the
change bowling of Dan
Young that the first wicket
fell, Heather well caught by
Tony Turner. This brought
C Hewison to the crease and
with Graham the pair batted on, and on, with the high temperature testing the concentration of
the fielders. Hymers returned to have Graham caught by skipper for the day Iain Purdy for 91.
Hewison went on to
make 129 not out,
supported by A
Cragg 11 not out in
the formidable
South North total of
257-2. Nazir
recorded 0-33,
Hymers 1-49 and
Young 1-31. The
slow bowlers Phil
Morse 0-68 and
Jamie Coates 0-52
had been tasked with most of the afternoon’s bowling work but without further success for the
well marshalled home side.
The Tynemouth reply saw the early loss of Purdy, caught off Whiteman for 3. Young and the
incoming Turner then moved the score along until Young was also caught off Whiteman, for
18. Graeme Hallam then used all his patience and experience to forge a meaningful stand with
Turner. These two occasional second team skippers were the main reason why Tynemouth did
not capitulate to the strengths of the South North attack. Turner made 45 and Hallam 35 runs as
Tynemouth played out time and valuable overs; both were claimed caught by hewison off
Brook. Ben Debnam scored 12, Andrew Lineham 11 and Nazir 17 as the middle order
supported Greg Hollins with his impervious 41 not out. Morse went for a duck but Coates hung
in there to see Tynemouth survive for the draw with two wickets to spare and 212 runs on the
board, earning 7 points from the game. This maintains a gap above bottom placed South
Shields. Whiteman claimed 3-45 and Brook 3-34.
The Second Team had an enthralling game in the reverse fixture at Gosforth. In searing heat
skipper Tony Lion won the toss and elected to bat. His team were soon in trouble at 24-4 off 12
overs with Tim Whiting, Ben Richardson, Richie Straughan and Matthew Brown all back in
the pavilion to the opening attack of I Fazal and C Goodfellow. Tony Lion and Chris Beever
added a half century partnership before Beever fell for 24. Ian Stewart joined Lion and again
made steady progress against a disciplined home attack. Stewart fell for 19 leaving Lion and
Russell Perry to continue the recovery. Lion eventually fell for 56. Perry received good support
from debutant Oliver McGee before the youngster was bowled by spinner Campbell. At the
end of 55 overs Tynemouth had recovered to 165-8 with Perry 22 not out and Scott Graham 10
not out. Fazal with 4-26 was the pick of the home attack.
In reply, Perry struck early removing Ben Jones-Lee for 14 to a well judged catch by Ed
Snelders. Sidney-Wilmot was then involved in a run out with Scott Graham throwing down the
stumps with a direct hit to remove Harbottle for 17 before then having Sidney Wilmot caught
behind for 6. Carding and Semone survived several chances and gradually started to claw
towards the visitors total. Chris Beever then struck, bowling Carding for 33 before having
Semone well caught at long off by Lion for 21. Michael Smalley then steered his side home
despite losing Mazer to Graham for 15 and Fazal to Beever for 16. The home side eventually
passed the winning line with an over to spare with Smalley 23 not out. Beever finished with 4-
51 off 14, Graham 2-40 off 11 and Perry 1-24 off 12, all not helped by a poor fielding display.
In the SG Wealth Management Northumberland League, Tynemouth Thirds visited Cramlington.
Skipper Paul Coates elected to bat first on the sun drenched square, leading the way with Steve
McLeod but falling bowled Walker in the third over for a duck. Chris Fairley went for only 3 and then
McLeod for 4, also bowled Walker. Tynemouth were in trouble again but Chad Koen started to build a
score and defy the young Cramlington bowling talent on show. Sadly Euan Stenhouse was, yes bowled
Walker, for a duck and Geoff Simpson, despite promising many more, managed only 4. When Koen
was out to a spectacular one handed catch at point for 17 Tynemouth were 41-5! Angus Robertson
steadied the ship and played out many an over, with the tight wides total increasing nicely for the
visitors and easily becoming top scorer. Catley was out for 2, Richard Hay played sensibly and logged
the first struck boundary of the innings: a massive 6 for his 15 and Max Robertson then hit the missing
4 before being bowled for 5. Walker came back to claim the last wicket with Jo Taylder bowled for 8 in
a mature showing with Angus Robertson left not out 11. Walker bowled all 4 of his victims for 17 runs
in 9 overs. Tynemouth were all out for 110 in the 32nd over of the 50 having benefited from 43 extras
with 26 in wides!
After a superb tea, Cramlington began their reply with last season’s Second team captain Paul Hattan
leading the string of young batting talent. With Jamie Hastings, he put on 60 for the first wicket to take
the game well away from Tynemouth. After some good aggressive opening bowling from Max
Robertson and Hay, it was the change bowling of Taylder which beat Hattan, lbw for 34. Robertson
returned to take Hastings, also lbw, for 15 with the score now on 86. Number three bat B Pulman was
playing strongly on the off side and proving immovable, even with the introduction of the economical
Catley who bowled Matthew Dennis for 1. As Cramlington closed in on their required Nelson, Hay had
Lobb caught by Taylder for 8. Pulman’s undefeated 36, aided by only 16 extras, saw Cramlington home
by 6 wickets in the 33rd over. Robertson had bowled his full quota with 13-4-36-1, Hay 5.5-1-29-1,
Taylder 4-0-20-1 and Catley 11-2-25-1 with the Tynemouth fielding being up to the expected standard.
Unfortunately there were not enough runs scored in the early afternoon sunshine!
Tynemouth C.C. Under 13 Round Up from Peter Davison
Tynemouth 147 for 0, Benwell Hill 72 all out.
Tynemouth entertained Benwell Hill in their opening fixture of the 2010 season and started
with a convincing win. The Hill bowlers posed little threat and the opening pair of Macciocchi
(30no, 3x4) and Ben McGee (33no, 4x4) led the run spree. Cottiss (32no, 5x4) and Eiles (30no,
3x4) continued the onslaught and Tynemouth amassed a total of 147. Skipper Macciocchi (3
for 2) decided to try all of his bowlers and was rewarded with a good performance from Hay
with 2 wickets and Edmunds 3 for 2. Benwell Hill ended their innings on 72 after Maktadir
was smartly stumped by keeper Cottiss.
Tynemouth 152 for 1, Newcastle 84 for 7
Tynemouth, batting first on an overcast morning, continued their good form with the bat.
Openers Ben (30no, 5x4) and Ollie McGee (31no, 4x4) and Macciocchi (32no, 5x4,1x6)
completely dominated the innings and with Mark Packham contributing 15, this was a fine all
round performance. Newcastle skipper Sinclair offered stubborn resistance by scoring 32 after
seeing off our opening bowlers Lonnberg (4-1-12-0), Beaumont (2-0-19-0) and Andy
Packham(4-1-23-0), but after Ben McGee bowled the dangerous Duncan for 14 and a subtle
field change by Ryan, resulted in a direct hit from the boundary by Mark Packham, Newcastle
were 73 for 3.With the storm clouds gathering Ryan had his players sprinting between overs to
ensure that the home received their 20 overs. The last 15 minutes of the game were played in
heavy rain. Congratulations to both teams for completing the match and to the two very wet
umpires. Wicket takers Macciocchi 2-0-8-1, Brown 2-0-8-1, B.McGee 3-1-19-2 and Eiles 3-2-
1-1. Shot of the Daywas Ben McGee's straight drive for four, perfection!
U13 National Cup Matches:
Round 1 Tynemouth 109 for 6, Ashington 57 for 9
The U13 National Cup draw gave our boys an extremely difficult start with a game against
Ashington and a possible next round tie against South North. The early rain that was forecast
did not materialise- until 5.50pm. The umpires decided to start the game although rain fell
persistently for over an hour. Collins removed opener Matty Eiles in the first over, then Ryan
joined Ben McGee who put on 24 for the second wicket. Mark Packham was then bowled
swinging across the line to a straight ball, which left us 56 for 4.
Ollie McGee produced a gritty performance to score 19 and with Sean Longstaff hitting a
quick 23 they took the score to 97 for 5. Tynemouth ended with a decent score of 109 for 6.
Team Manager Stephen Davison asked his bowlers to bowl a consistent line and length and
Finn Lonnberg certainly carried out these instruction. It is frightening to think of the damage
Finn will do once he is in senior cricket as he has the ability to generate serious pace for one so
young. Finn had Malabin and Robinson's stumps uprooted with successive unplayable
deliveries in his first over – Ashington 2 for 2. Wickets regularly fell as our bowlers produced
a fine all round performance. Special mention must be made for the Packham boys who held
three outstanding catches and Sean Longstaff for his excellent fielding performance. Wicket
takers were Lonnberg 4-1-7-4, Macciocchi 4-1-7-2, Beaumont 4-1-17-2 and Ollie McGee 4-0-
9-1. The game ended in brilliant evening sunshine – Bring on South North!
South North 118 for 2, Tynemouth 120 for 1
South North batted first on a very warm day at Gosforth. After the win at Ashington, the boys
knew that an improved performance would be required to progress to the next round in this
competition. Manager Stephen Davison must take some credit as he concentrated solely on
listing our strengths in all three disciplines and no mention was made of the opposition. Fin
Lonnberg gave us the perfect start by bowling opener Hearn with his second delivery. Parker
and Pyton pushed the score to 44 before Pyton was caught brilliantly by Longstaff at mid on -
44 for 2. Our bowlers applied further pressure, particularly Ollie and Ryan, and with a fast
outfield restricted South North to 118 for 2. Openers Ollie and Ben McGee were greeted by the
usual persistent sledging by the home side team. To their credit, their concentration was never
affected. Ben was bowled by Taylor with the score on 30. We slowly moved on to 43 for 1
after 10 overs – parents became a little nervous but batsmen and manager remained confident.
Ollie showed admirable qualities in building a patient innings of 24 ,whilst skipper Ryan's
individual brilliance saw him score 32 not out with 5x4 and 1x6.
Tynemouth still had a lot of work to do. The course of the game was changed by the explosive
arrival of Mark Packham. Mark hammered the home attack with a succession of powerful shots
hitting 3x6 and 2x4 in an unbeaten 31. The fielding side's noise became a whisper and
Tynemouth emerged victorious from a thriller in the 19th over, as Ollie score the winning two
runs. Watching Director of Coaching Russell Perry stated: It was a very impressive and
pleasing performance by our U13's and it is reassuring to know that these boys will all
eventually progress in to our senior sides. Thanks must go to Manny for scoring in such an
important game and for remaining confident when subjected to questions from the umpire.
