Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

We greet all of you in the precious, wonderful, powerful, eternal name of Jesus;
our Lord and yours, our Saviour and yours. As the angels proclaimed on the night of
his birth, "Peace on earth, to all mankind in whom he is well pleased," so may we
continue to proclaim so that there will be peace on the earth.

December, January, and February have passed, and as I reflect on things that
God has been able to do with our efforts, I rejoice and give Him all the glory,
honor, and praise.

I. EVANGELISM December and January brought me many invitations to preach in

the Churches in Manila and nearby cities. I could not accept all the invitation.

Those I did accept, dealt mainly with encouraging and strengthening the body already
in existance. There was also news from Bro. Sales now serving in Bataan that one
Church has been revived, six baptized into Christ, and a' spiritual strengthening
of the other three churches.

Bro. Sales receives some financial support from me.

Bro. Ben Ebwen, who is ministering in the Cavite City Jail, told me work was

going well and much teaching was being done. Some prisoners who have expressed
the desire to be baptized, but at the time of this newsletter, they have not been
because there is no place to immerse. I have given money for constructing a such
a baptistry, but so far have received no news of its construction.
The most recent news is the arrival of Larry Jamison and Larry Schnautz on

January 23. From the airport we went to the bus station enroute to San Fernando,
Papanga. We were to stay in homes, but the Church there backed out, and put us in
a motel instead.

At 7:30 PM we started the revival!

Oh, how good it was to have

Larry Schnautz to lead us in the song service and then for Larry Jamison to preach!
Most of the sermons I have heard for two years were in Tagolog...hearing the preaching

in my own tongue was wonderful. Yes, the Philipino Christians thought so too. After
preaching four came at the invitation to be baptized into Christ-

After the service

we-werataken out-for coffee and a-Philipioe brather.suggested tQ_Larry that__he n_gt

preach against denominational ism, because Larry had mentioned plainly in his sermon
that they were not necessarily Christians and they needed to repent and be baptized
into Christ for the remission of sins and gift of the Holy Ghost.

Well, in just a

few words Larry J. said it is better to obey God than man. The next night he again
preached straight and true and a denominational husband and wife, who had previously
thought of themselves as ChristlanSj and had started fellowshipping with this N.T.
Church came forward asking to be "baptized into Christ" for the right reasons. And
coming also was their house helper, making three baptized into Christ. In the way
humor, the next day we ate supper at this couple's house. They prepared a feast
for us. Along with this feast was fish with their heads on. The Philipino brother
said to Larry J., "I love to eat fish heads!" Larry got a serious and concerned
look on this face and said, "Oh, you should never eat fish heads!" The brother asked
"Why!?" Larry said, "Because if you get more brains in your stomach than you have
in your head, it will kill you!!" The brother about fell out of his chair laughing
as did all of the rest of us! Who says Christians don't have a sense of humor?
Which brings us to the third and final night of preaching at San Fernando. We had
another great night of singing and preaching and two more were baptized into Christ.
Even before we left the Christians were saying we will miss you and look forward to
the time when the two Larrys would come back and do more of what they had done!
From San Fernando, we traveled to Angeles City, which being interpreted is "the

City of Angels". But these are not God's Angels because in Angeles we have Clark
Air Base, and in all honesty our service men and women are not concerned about godly
things. So Angeles is full of much immoral activities. But among this city of
Angels, there are saints of God. After all, if all were saints we would have no
purpose to go and preach there. We spent 3 days in Angeles preaching and singing,
instructing and encouraging the body of Christ there. There were seven baptized into
Christ.

From Angeles we traveled by bus back to Manila, and by taxi to San Pedro, Laguna,
to my house. We spent a week there with two different revival meetings; the first
a street-meeting in Santa Rosa and the other in Paclta Complex Church which meets
In Bro. Rubio's house. At Santa Rosa there were 6 baptized into Christ and their

minister, Bro. Joel said this was the most ever baptized in a meeting, and it was

only two nights long. He and the body of Christ there greatly rejoiced. In Pacita,
the two Larrys helped conduct VBS, taught classes, preached and sang, and two were
baptized into Christ.

Monday morning, Feb. 4, we flew to Cebu City on Cebu Island to work with
Ricarde Magsipoc, president of Cebu Bible Seminary and the Churches there. Ricarde
.had a,full, and I mean full, program set up for us. M/M Ray Carlson put us.up at .a
nice Hotel, but we only were there from 11 PM till 6 AM each night. We spent the
rest of our time teaching in CBS, and preaching in the afternoon and evenings. There,
were baptisms day and night after gospel preaching by all three of us. The Christ- ians were lifted up and encouraged. On Friday and Saturday we flew to Ilo-ilo on
Panay Island to work with Rollie Lusoc, who is married to Ricarde's sister. M/M
Lusoc have rented an apartment in which they have started^a new Church, and are
starting a Bible College to train workers for Ilo-ilo. If my memory serves me right,
there were 5 baptized and 1 decision for further teaching before being baptized.
One of the young ladies baptized was an activist for the communist party. Her sister
brought her to the meeting and she heard the gospel, believed and was baptized that
night. Sunday morning after radio preaching, we flew back to Cebu and preached in
three different Churches on Sunday morning, having communion with the body and blood
of Christ. In the afternoon, I went to preach in the city jail, and Larry J and .
Larry S went to two other Churches to preach. There were baptisms at all of them,
as well as 4 baptized in the jail. Sunday evening the Church which meets in CBS
chapel joined with CBS students and all three of us for a combined service.

We

preached a tag-team sermon on the three great essentials: Larry S spoke on BAPTISM,
I spoke on THE LORD'S SUPPER, and Larry J. spoke on LOVE! There were no baptisms, .
but oh, what encouragement the service was for the brethren. Praise God from whom
all blessings flow. Our departing from the fellowship that night was similar to
Paul's departing from the Church at Ephesus. The brothers and sisters did not want
us to go. But like Paul, we had to move on, for there was more work ahead.
Monday, February 11, we were supposed to fly to Davao City to meet Charles and
Florence Littell. But alas, a delay at the Bank, and car wreck in heavy traffic kept
us from reaching the airport in time and we missed our flight. Everything else in
the Philippines you can be as much as an hour or more late, and still be on time,
but not so with the airlines.
When they say 11:40 AM, they mean 11:40 AM. Well,
we were disappointed, but nothing we could do except re-sechedule for the next morn
ing at 5:AM, which meant we had to wake up at 3:AM, eat breakfast, and be on our
way to the airport by 3:30 AM to check in one hour before departure. We had no pro
blems and at 5:AM we were on our way to Davao City on Mindanao Island, where Charles
and Florence met us happily. Taking us first to their home, treating us to break
fast while we talked about our plans while there. It so happened we did not work with
Charles or Florence directly. They were having a seminar for the Ambassodors and
leaders at their home base, so they asked if each of us would spend a day there and
lecture, but the other two of us would go to Digos and work with the Church of
Christ there in a revival. So plans were finalized and we began the week.

The Church at Digos was started by Larry Jamison and Tracy Jamison in August,
1979 with the Ambassadors for Christ team.

When they began there were nine members.

Now-they have more than 100 baptized believers and average over 120 in attendance.
They even have an out-reach to Santa Cruz, a near-by burrio. If my memory serves
me right, there were seven baptized into Christ. On the last Sunday we spent to
gether three elders were ordained, who in turn ordained two evangelists and three
deacons for the work in Digos Church of Christ.

Sunday afternoon at 2:40 we flew back to Manila. I don't know about Larry
Jamison and Larry Schnautz, but I was tired. We arrived in Manila and Bro. Rubio
was there to pick us up and take us to my house in Pacita. At Paclta the two Larrys'
were invited to visit in a Christian home for supper, while I had a reunion with

my family. When I had arrived home, no one was there by our helper. Rosie, Bobby,
Debbie, a Marcia were with Ruby Boseman in Cavite. I was disappointed, but my
disappointment was short because they soon arrived from Cavite. Larry and Larry
were busy teaching and eating until after 11:PM and they even baptized a young man
into Christ in the swimming pool.

Monday morning we awoke at 6:APi, had breakfast, and took the Larrys to the airpor-t-to catch their flight to 5outh Korea. I was left at the airport_wh11e they_
were to continue on to South Korea, and even though I wanted to go with them, I
could not. I was truly blessed by these two men of God who came to share in the
work of the Lord in the Philippines. Praise God for sending them and thanks to all
the brothers and sisters in America who made their coming possible.

I know Larry

Jamison will send out a report as well as this one. If his report doesn't agree
with mine, accept his, because he took daily notes and. I am writing from memory,
only. God bless and keep all. of you who are His till that day when we shall be
with him for ever.

IN CHRIST, Les Wilkerson., and family. (And greetings from Ruby Boseman, and son)
NEEDS WE WANT YOU TO SHARE WITH US:

1, Our monthly support is only about $770. We need more than that for this work. .
2. We are moving to Angeles City. Our house rent will be $200, double for deposit,

&in^$200 for the moving van. We need $600 extra for this.
We have neglected our dental work badly. A dentist here agreed to carry us
credit and did $500 worth on us.

We need help with this also.

The song writer says In "My Tribute":

How can I say thanks for all the things you have done for me;
Things so undeserved yet you give to prove your love to me.
The voices of a million angels could not express my gratitude;
All that I am and ever hope to be, I owe it all to Thee! ;
To God be the glory, for the great things he has done.
With His blood he has saved me. With his power he has raised me;
To God be the glory for the things he has done.
Just let me live my life. Let it be pleasing Lord to thee.
Should I gain any fame, let it go to Calvary!
With his blood he has saved me, with his power he has raised me;
To God be the glory for the things he has done!!

'

Dear Brothers and Sisters and Friends who receive this newsletter:

God's speed to you! As I write this letter all is well with the Wilkerson family.
The song is how we feel toward our Father in Heaven, and to all of you. Because of
your prayers, we are able to stay and continue the work here. Because of your financic
help, we are able to have our needs. Because, of your letters of encouragement, we are
able to overcome the loneliness of^being .away from all of you. Thanks and glory be
unto God for all of you! Don't stop praying and giving financially, or writing! We
need you!!
Acts 21:17-20 says, "When we arrived at Jerusalem, the brothers received us warmly.
The next day Paul and the rest of us went to see James and all the elders were present.
Paul greeted them and reported in detail what God had done among the Gentiles through
his ministry. When they heard this, they praised God." NIV As Paul reported all
that God had done through him, so I wish to do now, I would pray that the result
would be the same; that is all of you will praise God and thank Him!
I. TRANSFER: Since February, 1985, a decision was made that once more the Wilkerson's would move to a different location, This is now our 3rd major move. From
Cavite to San Pedro, and now to Angeles City. We were going to move May 15, but

two events-stopped our plans. IstT sickness, and 2nd a mis-understanding between
me and Bro. Ed Tolosa. Now, with the help of God, both obstacles are removed. The
new date to move was June 17th, but we moved on June 15th.

We loaded onto a truck

at 9:AM and by 12:N00N we were in our new home. We sort of feel like Abraham,. "A
wanderer" or a family on the move. But as the Bible records in Gen 23:1,2, Abraham
and Sarah settled in Hebron in the land of Canaan among the Hittite people and

stayed. So it is with us. We want to find the place of service where we can really
get down to some serious steady work for the Kingdom in the Philippines. So join us
in prayer, that God's will be done about this matter.
II. THE CHURCH AND WORK: The Church in Angeles was established in 1973 by Christians
stationed at Clark Air Base. They were Bill Shelton, Ed Tolosa, and missionary
Ronnie Hoffman. They began the church in a house owemlby Bro. Tolosa and moved to 3

different locations until they bought a lot in Palaridel Sub-division where in '74
they erected a building.

Under the leadership of Christian men in USAF, they did

well until 1978. Unfalthfj-l preachers, lack of leadership, and the Church ms in
trouble, and that is how Bro. Tolosa found things when he returned in 1984. But the
song says, "It only takes a spark to get a fire going," so they lifted up their cry
to the "Lord of the Harvest" for help, and the Lord sent us Wilkersons! We met with
the body here on the first day of the week on June 16th to break bread together. I
preached on "The Blessed Man" from Psalms 1 and afterwards met with the acting elders,
deacons, and leadership. They were ready to immediately have me ordain Elders and

Deacons, but since Paul told Timothy to "lay hands suddenly"on no man" I got them
to postpone until we could study together. I wanted to find oUt what the Lord and
I would have to work with. The acting' leaders and I decided to use Wednesday nights
as training for qualifications of leadership. June 17-22 our family worked to get
settled into our new home. On Sunday the 23rd, I taught Adults and Bro. Jun did
the preaching. We only have morning services at present. Monday, June 24th I began
looking for a school for my children. I first went to a Southern Baptist School;
they were having problems with the government who wanted them to register their
school. So they had a new policy; no one but their own members could enroll. That
left us out.

But when one door closes, another usually opens.

So we found out

the Independent Baptists had a school and I enquired there. The minister asked me
how I became a Christian. I started at the beginning; how from the Church of God, I
was led to Mark Jones, a deacon at Princeton Christian Church and Introduced me to
N.T. Christianity. Having thought I was already a Christian, I learned thru much
Bible Study and prayer that I was not, and on Dec. 2, 1975 believing, repented and

was baptized INTO CHRIST; born again of water and the Spirit! He said, "I don't know
about you, but I like to hear testimonies of what the Lord has done." He told me

about his conversion without baptism! Then he said I can't say yes or no, and to
come back in two weeks as they were having trouble finding enough space and he

was going back to the States and his replacement had a heavy schedule. So we are
in prayer about the matter.

On Tuesday, June 24th, Ed Tolosa stopped by our house on his way back to the States,
He asked me to go with him to the Clark base. He is retired from the USAF, We
talked about plans for the work here in Angeles and waited to hear his name called
for the flight waiting list, but there was no available space that night. The 25th
we v/ent back to the base. We got to talk to some active Air Force men Ed knew. We
also met four of the 13 Chaplains stationed at Clark. Ed had received information
from Fred Ragland, director of "Christian Military Fellowship" that there were ten
Christians from our fellowship stationed at Clark, That night we contacted the
Doug o Sherrie Web family from Nebraska. We invited them to our services. They
said they would come; we prayed together and left. Thursday morning we were back
on the base trying to locate the others, but no definite contacts were made. Bro.
Ed went to Subic Naval Base hoping to catch a flight from there. So I spent Friday
and Saturday at home getting ready for services on Sunday.

June 30 we came together to break bread; I taught the adults on "The Person of God"
and then preached on "Be Ye Filled With the Spirit" from Eph 5:18. In the afternoon
an acting Elder and his two sons met with me to cut down a tree. It was large
enough to be a threat to another house near-by. With a bolo knife, a handsaw,
and two safety straps we accomplished this by 4 PM. Then Rosie and I accompanied
our brother to his house where we met with the high-school and college age believers

to discuss how they could have a more active part in the Lord's Work.

Since most

of them are new converts, they asked for more training, and requested we ,use Sunday
afternoons, and then have a night service. We set July 7th as target date to begin.

Most of these young people are from non-Christian homes, and we can be sure their
extra time at Church will not be unhampered by their families. We had prayer and
committed our plans unto the Lord, and Rosie and I went home. This meeting brought
the end of June, and beginning of July,
As Paul exhorted the Church in Colossians 3:17 "And whatever you do, whether in word
or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father
through him." May it be so as the month of July comes, and for us, the rest of
our lives. We love you all in the Lord. Please lift us up continually unto the Lord
that he guide us in the work here, strengthen us in the faith, deliver us from all
evil, and give us boldness to preach the truth of his Holy Word.

When the typhoons passed this way, Angeles City only received much rain. There was
some loss of life and damage done by the resultant floods, but it was very small
compared to the other parts of the Philippines.
Colossians 3:12-14 "Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved,
clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one
another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love,
which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in
your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with
all wisdom and as you sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your
hearts to God,"

We still need $250 to help pay for the dental work for our family. And if we are
to expand our ministry in traveling and preaching in other villages and starting new
churches, etc. we need to increase our missionary support from $1,000 monthly to
about $2,000 per month.

FTNAL .GRE_EIINGS: II Cor 13:n-14 "Finany, brothers, good-bye^ Aim for perfection,
1 isten to rry appeal, be of one mind, live in'peace and the God of "love and peace^"^""
will be with you. Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the saints send their
greetings. May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the
fellowship of the Holy, Spirit be with you all,"

Isn't it grand to be a Christian? Only those who are Christian really know just
how great it is!

Isn't it grand to be an American? Only those who are American really know just
how great it is!

Isn't it grand to be Free? Only those who are Free really know just how great
it is!

Isn't it grand to be a Republic and not a Democracy? Only those who know the
difference know just how great it' is!

We are a Republic! This means that the minority government body does not rule or
dictate the people, but the majority of the people work hand in hand with the govern
ment to establish peace and order, freedom and pursuit of happiness. We are free,
but not to just do what we want or think is best! We are governed by both the laws
of God and our Country, which in reality came from God {Romans 13:lff). This is the
assurance of the Constitution of the United States of America, drawn up by our fore
fathers and signed in Philadelphia, July 4, 1776.

We don't want democracy; we want freedom! We want the people and the government
working together to keep America free!

This is what true Americans want.

But we

have an enemy in bur land. Ephesians 6:12 says "For our struggle is not against
flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers
of this dark world, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."
Our number one enemy is Satan! Why? In^ God we trust! Our number two enemy is
those authorities, rulers, and powers of this dark world, 'spiritual forces of evil'.
Subversive forces such as communism, humanism, athiesm, liberalism, all are in the
same bed together, and they work to destroy the America that we have fought for,
sweated, bled, and died for! These use and abuse our freedoms of speech, the press,
religion to destroy what us real Americans hold dear! They work to destroy, not to
unite, build, and encourage! They are liars and destroyers of the truth, because
their father, the Devil, is a liar and destroyer of all that is good.
July 4, 1985 we celebrated our 209th year of freedom! But are we free? Are we
like America in 1776, 1812, 1898, 1912, or 1945? In reality most Americans are
not because they are being fed lies and eating it up. So they are filled with fear,
hate, and the false hope of 'materialism'. Galatians 6:7,8 says, "Do not be deceiv-ed-; -God cannotbe mocked. A man-reaps what-he sows-. The one who st>ws-tt> please
his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please
the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life."
Freedom is not free; the cost is very dear. The cost is our lives, and the lives
of our loved ones. Freedom is not a privilege; it is an honor! Freedom does not
come easy, but it can be lost easily just by doing nothing. It would be wonderful
if we did not have to have military build-up, police, judges, courts, laws of God
and laws of man, BUT IF WE ARE TO" REMAIN FREE, we must have all of these!

And our

greatest is the 'laws of'T'od. * "H'ur forefathers knew this! Why don't Americans today
know this? Because many believe the lies that God is dead, God doesn't care, man is
god and he is in control, not God! Another lie is that religion and politics do not
mix. In truth, church and government must be separate, but they are governed by the
same God. As the Church is people, and the government is people, we need people
of God in both! We. hear the lie that God and"religion have failed, so now it is
man's turn! Isaiah 45:9-12 NIV says, "Woe to him who guarrels with his Maker, to him
who is but a potsherd among the potsherds on the ground. Does the clay say to the
potter, 'What are you making?' Does your work say, 'He has no hands'? Woe to him
who says to his father,- 'What have you begotten?' Or to his mother, 'What have you
brought to birth?' This is what the Lord says, the holy one of Israel, and its
Maker: concerning things to come, do you question me about my children, or give me
orders about the work of my hands? It is I who made the earth and created mankind
upon it. My own hands stretched out the heavens; I marshaled their starry hosts."
So, v/ho is man to question God and say 'He has failed?' or that religion has failed!
Indeed, it is man who has failed! He has failed both-the Lord and the Church.
You might be asking me, 'Why all this patriotism?' Because I am still free and I
thank God and those with me to have worked, sweated, bled, and died so I can still

be free! I am ready also to die to keep America free. America, we are at 'war'!
Our enemy is working both from within and without our borders. It is not a time to be
running around with our eyes and ears closed, lulled into slumber and very fast
asleep! Our enemy is working in both high and low places, in education, radio, TV,
the press, music, magazines, movies, unions, etc. The aim of these groups is to
control and dominate the world any way they can. It is anti-God, anti-Country, and
anti-American! Who are these enemies? Satanism, Communism, Humanism, Materialism,

Atheism, and Religionism, are some! America is filled with them, and they are doing
vhat they planned; to destroy us! What can we freedom-loving Americans do? God said
'n II Chronicles 7:14, "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my facO, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear
from Heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land!"

All Americans are not God's people, but could become so if they vMould humble them
selves before God. Then we could be forgiven of our many sins and our land be healed.

But as long as we are divided politically and religiously we can't be healed or for
given.

As we come closer to losing our nation as a Republic we hear the cry Democracy.
But remember democracy is a stepping stone to Communism and is government control,
not people & government control of those who want to be free!

We are no longer "One Nation under God" as we now have many 'gods', such as
man, Satan, buddha and allah and other Eastern gods.

When we check out history, such

empires with many gods had their 'hay day* but came to nothing. Please note that I
said 'empires' and not 'nations'. Even Israel, when they worshipped the one true
living God, prospered, but when they forsook him, they came to nothing.
We are not 'Indivisible' either. We are divided In every area which makes
us very vulnerable to destruction from without and within. We must get back to
the 'grass-roots' of American principles or perish.
Americans, do you know what the movie industry is doing with their freedom? They

are propagating Marxist progaganda.

'American imperfalist pigs' says Hollywood are

the enemies, not Communism! Moms and Dads, do you realize what your children are
being taught in many public schools? If you will investigate you are in for a shock
if you can see thru the disguise. Americans, do you, really read the news and hear
what is being said, or are you only hearing and seeing the controlled side? God gave
us brains; we must use them and search out what the enemy is doing and defeat him.
Be sure, I love my God, my Country, and my Freedom! I want America to be,free!
God wants America to be free! In addition, my love for my, wife and children compels
me to work, sweat, bleed, and die if I have to, so they and all others who also wants
this freedom can have it. That is why I am a Christian first, and an American second.
"God bless America, land that I love; stand beside her, and guide her, through the
night with the light from above! From the mountains, to the prairies, to the oceans
white with foam, God bless America, my home sweet home...!!!"
I.

THE WORK DURING JULY AND AUGUST.

Good news!

On July 28, Ligaya Gemenia came

to be baptized into Christ. She was pentacostal, but now is a Christian! She re
mains faithful until this day. July 1 we moved again, from a house in front of the
Church to a house behind. We have spent the month of July getting acquainted with
our neighbors and sharing the Faith with them. At Angeles City Christian Church
we continue studying Eldership, God's existance, names, and characteristics, and the
basics of who is a Christian and who is not. Everyday we are witnessing and calling

everywhere. July came and went so fast it didn't seem like it came at all.
August 4th we baptized Jose and Gloria Gemenia, also former charismatic, but who
just wanted to be Christians.

The leaders of the Church met and as there were some problems with the treasurer,
they elected Rosie the new treasurer. A couple of families got angry with me because
I refused to immediately upon my arrival ordain Elders and Deacons (I Tim 5:22)
and was opposed to using Church funds to pay the Jeepney transportation for the
members to come to Church services. So this part of the body got angry and quit
coming. I went to them (Heb 10:25) and some only became more angry. This has still
not mended, I admit I might have used more tact and humility as I was very straight
with them, but also out of love for God and His Church. They say I favor those who
still attend more than them, but there will be no favorites; only faithfuls. In

spite of this, we continue teaching and calling and preaching. We have had 7 people
baptized since I came here. And members have made a more positve statement to be
faithful more in attendance and giving and spiritual maturity, upkeep on property,
evangelism and missions. We realize we are not one body with this division of those

unhappy members, and it must be repented of and washed away by the blood of the Lamb.
II. FUTURE WORK AND PLANS, During September we will study "Scriptural Organization
of the Churches of Christ." and preach on a series of Stewardship of Treasure, Time,

and Talent towards Faithfulness. We have two years before furlough (July, 1987) in

FAMILY NEWS.

We are all fine.

No birthdays in July or August, but I will be- -

35 on Sept. 20. (Mom, do you believe that?) You might wonder if I am taking time
for Rosie and the kids. God is my witness, we "are more like a family now than when
we first arrived. I am not neglecting my responsibility to Rosie and the children.
I love them as Christ loves the Church, and as He gave his life for it, so I am
ready to give my life for them. Keep the work here, and us, in your prayers! We
thank all of you for your faithful and continued support for our Philippine ministry.

Anytime any of you would like to come over and visit us, write and we'll help you.
You are welcome anytime.

"May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through.

May your

whole spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ
The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it."
We love you all in Jesus...

YES, YOU CAN BE JUST A CHRISTIAN!!

. .
Has it ever occurred to you,, dear reader,- that you can be just a Christian...,

nothing more or less than, a plain Christian.?! Yes, even in the midst of the
religious confusion of. our creed-bound, denomination-divided age, it is possible for
you to be just a plain Christian.

What does it mean to be just a Christian? Well, being a Christian means so

much more than merely being a good moral person...more than giving mental assent to
a certain belief...more than have one's name on a church role.

Being just a Christian means to trust and obey Jesus Christ just as the early
Christians did back
Bible days in the first century. It means going back beyond
all the distinctive Catholic and Protestant doctrines of today tP find Christ just

as He is revealed in the N^T. scriptures. You see, there were no'different denomin
ations in the beginning.of true Christianity. The early discipleS were all one body.
They:were called simply "Christians" (Acts 11:26). They did not follow different
creeds but were guided by the "faith once.and for 4^1
to the saints."
(Jude 3). The N.T. scriptures, first as the spoken word and later as it Was written
down by "holy men of God" as they were guided by the Holy Spirit was their only rule
of faith and practice. We have these same scriptures today and can reproduce the

same pure Christians which flurishedip^ the first century after Christ. We can be
just plain Christians.

To find out the details of just how you can become and remain just a Christian
like Peter, and Paul, and Matthew,,you must open the scriptures and read for your

self. We suggest you:begin with the.Book of...Acts. You will find "that Jesus build
.one church, and God added everyone who obeyed the gospel of Christ to this undenom
inational church, the body of Christ (Matt 16:18, Acts 2:47). The Bible teaches

that you will be added to the same body today wheil you believe in Jesus as God's
Son, repent of your sins, and are baptized. Why not become just a Christian and work
and worship in the fellowship of those who are just Christians? Lexington Lamplighter

A PARABLE FOR MOTHERS on MOTHER'S DAY, MAY 12, 1985

The young Mother set her foot on the path of life.

"Is the way long?" she asked.

And her Guide said: "Yes, and the way is hard. And you will be old before you
reach the end of it. But the end will be better than the beginning."
But the young mother was happy, and she would not believe that anything could
be better than these years. So she played with her children, and gathered flowers
for them along the way, and bathed with them in the clear streams; and the sun shone
on them, and life was good, and the young Mother cried, "Nothing will ever be
lovelier than this."

Then the night came, and storm, and the path was dark, and the children shook
with fear and cold, and the Mother drew them close and covered them with her mantle,
and the children said, "Oh, Mother, we are not afraid, for you are near, and no harm
can come," and the Mother said, "This is better than the brightness of the day, for
I have taught my children courage."
And the morning came, and there was a hill ahead, and the children climbed and
grew weary but at all times she said to the children, "A little patience, and we are
there." So the children climbed, and when they reached the top, they said, "We could
not have done it without you. Mother." And the Mother, when she lay down that night,
looked up at the stars, and said: "This is a better day than the last, for my child
ren have learned fortitude in the face of hardness. Yesterday I gave them courage.

Today I have given them strength."

And the next day came strange clouds which darkened the earthclouds of war
and hate and evil, and the children groped and stumbled, and the Mother said: "Look
up. Lift your eyes to the light." And the children looked and saw above the clouds
an everlasting Glory, and it guided them and brought them beyond the darkness. And
that night the Mother said, "This is the best day of all, for I have shown my child
ren God!"

And the days went on, and the weeks and the months and the years, and the
Mother grew old, and she was little and bent. But her children were tall and strong

and walked with courage. And when the way was hard, they helped their mother; and
when the way was rough, they lifted her, for she was as light as a feather; and at
last they came to a hill, and beyond the hill they could see a shining road and gold
en gates flung wide.
And the Mother said: "I have reached the end of my journey.

And now I know

that the end is better than the beginning, for my children can walk alone, and their
children after them"

And the children said, "You will always walk with us. Mother, evn when you
have gone through the gates."
And they stood and watched her as she went on alone, and the gates closed after
her, and they said, "We can not see her, but she is with us still. A Mother like
ours is more than a memory. She is a Living Presence." Vol I, Out of my Treasure
