Title
Billy the Kid: An outlaw from the Wild Wild West
Summary
The students will have an understanding of a historical character like Billy the Kid
and will dig deep into who he was and what legacy he left behind. Students will do
many activities such as essays, create an interactive fake Fakebook and a blog.
Standards

order to analyze significant patterns, relationships, themes, ideas, beliefs, and
turning points in New Mexico, United States, and world history in order to
understand the complexity of the human experience.

the Kid.
Analyze-Students will be analyzing the character they are studying to see how they
would act in the modern world.
Evaluate- Students will evaluate the five elements that are important to add to their
blog.
Create- Students will create a Blog about their new found knowledge.

The students have understanding on how to research online, email, upload, follow
tutorials, and create a blog.

What is the recommended duration of this activity?

Students will be working 30 minutes a day for approximately nine to ten class
periods.

Grouping
What is the recommended grouping for this activity?

Students will work individually for the beginning of the lesson then small
heterogeneously placed groups.

Face-to-Face Instruction
(This portion will only be completed if a hybrid format is utilized)
Anticipatory Set: Living in the Southwest, we hear all about the Wild Wild West.
There was once a teenage outlaw who became known as Billy the Kid. His life of
crime has become legendary and is an interesting story to research. What do you
think being an outlaw even means?
Closure: Students will get into the same groups as before and quickly create an
anchor chart and write and/or draw what they have learned. Students will then take
a gallery walk and look at other students learning.

Assessment (Summative and Formative)


State how each objective will be evaluated.
Students will complete an essay on what they have learned. They will also need to
create a fake Fakebook and create a blog. A quiz will also be completed at the end
of the unit. All of these assessments will be emailed to the teacher.

Extension Items
Students can make a Wiki or their own Billy the Kid website.

Areas of Concern
Some students that will need more assistance than others.
