Program No: 1
Aim: To state the problem definition, scope and objectives for the project.
Software Used: NIL
Theory:
The students need to specify the problem statement given by the customer for the
application to be developed. Students are expected to define the problem to be solved,
what functionality are needed to solve the problem, what goals could be achieved by
implementing the solution and what are the limitations and constraints of the project.
Example:
In todays busy schedule people need easy and convenient way of access to
information. Searching for a good restaurant and within budget in nearby localities,
taking the risk of trying out dishes at a new restaurant could be a problem faced by
people who are food lovers and who enjoy hotelling. To solve this problem a new
application named Amazing Lunch Indicator is proposed.
The Amazing Lunch Indicator is a GPS-based mobile application which helps people
to find the closest restaurants based on the users current position and other specification
like price, restaurant type, dish and more. The application should be free to download
from either a mobile phone application store or similar services.
Restaurant owners can provide their restaurant information using the web-portal. This
information will act as the bases for the search results displayed to the user. An
administrator also uses the web-portal in order to administer the system and keep the
information accurate. The administrator can, for instance, verify restaurant owners and
manage user information.
Furthermore, the software needs both Internet and GPS connection to fetch and display
results. All system information is maintained in a database, which is located on a webserver. The software also interacts with the GPS-Navigator software which is required to
be an already installed application on the users mobile phone. By using the GPSNavigator, users can view desired restaurants on a map and be navigated to them. The
application also has the capability of representing both summary and detailed information
about the restaurants.
Conclusion: Thus, the scope and objectives of the project are understood and the
problem has been well defined.
