Note: Our Intention is to make a custom Caesar II material for two cases i.

e Short term and Long term so

that we can use the Short term case to calculate support reaction forces and Long term case for
evaluating the stresses in the PE pipe. Please feel very comfortable to comment on this ideology.

1. Hydrostatic strength diagram/curve

a) Is this allowable stress curve for the material?
b) If answer is NO for query 1a, Can you please provide allowable stress
values for corresponding temperatures as in Figure 1 below for Short Term
and Long Term applicable to materials PE 100 and PE 80 ? Alternatively can
you provide methodolgy behind these allowable stresses for our knowledge?
c) If answer is Yes for query 1a, Can we use extrapolated (using the
equations provided in GF planning fundamentals) values for corresponding
temperature limits from these curves as allowable stress inputs in Caesar II
custom material preparation as shown below ? Do we need to apply any
Design factor in the extrapolated values before using this as allowable stress
inputs to Caesar?

Figure 1

d) If answer is Yes for query 1a, Our assumption is There is a short term (1
hour) allowable stress and Long term (25 year) allowable stress to be used as
inputs for Short term and Long term - Is this True ?
e) As per latest publiation of +GF+ Planning fundamentals, there is a deviation
in the interpolation formulas and Knee region is absent in the Hydrostatic
strength curve of PE 100 and PE 80. Was this deviation part of optimization
of the Hydrostatic stength values? We have checked values of PE 100 using

old and new fomulae (for 25Y, 15Y and 1 Hour) and found only very minor
difference in the values.

2. Elastic Modulus

Figure 2

a) As per the above Figure 2, the values of E-modulus (short term & long
term) are given for PVDF & PP-H. Is this E-modulus values of PP-H
applicable for PE-100 and is linear interpolation applicable to temperatures
in between those listed?
b) Can you please provide the E-modulus (short term (1Hour) & long term (25
year)) for PE 80

3. Poissons ratio
a) As per latest publiation of +GF+ Planning fundamentals the value of
Poissons ratio is 0.4 for Plastic pipes in general. Please confirm if this is
applicable to Short and Long term cases for PE 100 and PE 80?

4. Density
a) Can we use 950 Kg/m3 for PE 100 and PE 80?

5. Expansion coefficient
a) Can you please provide the values of Expansion coefficient corresponding
to temperatures shown in Figure 1 for PE 100 and PE 80?

6. Reduction in maximum inner pressure capability

a) As per latest publiation of +GF+ Planning fundamentals there is a special
note regarding pipes fixed in axial direction which says Pipes which are
fixed in the axial direction (fixed installation) must be checked for
buckling. In most cases, this leads to a reduction of maximum inner
pressure as well as shorter distances between the support brackets.

Furthermore, the forces which act on the fixed points must be taken into
consideration.
Can you please explain how to calculate the maximum inner pressure which the
pipe can withstand in such cases?
