Assalamualaikum wr wb.
I thank God for giving the health and time to share a knowledge on this historic day, the day of
national education.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Indonesia is a big country, inhabited by hundreds of millions people includes islands spread widely.
We have been independent since 1945, but I think Indonesia is not yet independent in terms of
education. Although we have changed curricula almost every year, but it proved that the Indonesian
education has not been able to compete with the developed countries. We tend to fall behind and
have not been able to print a great human resources class as developed countries.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I tried to draw a line to the back, and I get the irony which is really disappointing. In this very rich
country, there are so many students drop out of school, do not have a uniform, and swim to go to
school because of the broken bridge. It is an irony in the midst of our State assets.
Statistics of school buildings damaged and have not been improved are also too much. It is
happening in the provinces that are far away from the center of government and gives continuing
negative effect on the education system in the province itself.
Of course, a child who does not get an education will have difficulties in achieving a better stAndard
of living in his future. Youve seen that a lot of ignorance and poverty arise because so many crimes
arising from poverty.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Education is a major key to get a better state order. Through proper and best education, we are able
to print high-quality human resources, eradicate ignorance, and destroy poverty.
Therefore, let us together to be students and teachers that are diligent, sincere, and keep trying
without the unyielding. We are Indonesia, a rich country that should have the best education. Do not

give up on the fate of our nation today, and continues to struggle in gaining an independence
education.
I would like to thank you all for giving me the opportunity to convey these short useful messages.

It is a great honor for me to stand here and give a brief speech entitled Formal Education
in

Indonesia

Brothers

and

Sisters;

Education system in our country is divided into two major parts, they are formal and
non-formal.

A formal

education

is

divided

into

three

levels:

primary,

secondary

and

tertiary education. While non-formal education is carried out for the learners who get
difficulties

to

meet

the

requirements

in

formal

education. An

example

of

non-formal

education is PLS (Pendidikan Luar Sekolah). Both formal and non-formal education aim
at establishing the education process in our country.
Ladies

and

Gentlemen;

As I have stated previously, formal education involves three levels: primary, secondary
and tertiary education. Before entering primary or elementary school, children in our
country usually have attended kindergarten, or known as Taman Kanak-kanak. But this
education is not compulsory for Indonesian citizens, as the aim of this is just to prepare
them for primary school.
Children ages 712 attend primary education at Elementary School or Sekolah Dasar.
This level of education is compulsory for all Indonesian citizens. Similar to education
systems in the U.S. and Australia, students must study for six years to complete this level.
Some schools offer an accelerated learning program, where students who perform well
can

finish

elementary

school

in

five

years.

The next level is secondary education. After graduating from elementary school, students

attend Middle School or Junior High School (Sekolah Menengah Pertama) for three years
from the age of 13-15. After three years of schooling and graduation, students may move
on to Senior High School. In Indonesia, this school is basically divided into two kinds:
SMA

(Sekolah

Menengah

Atas)

and

SMK

(Sekolah

Menengah

Kejuruan).

SMA

is

different with SMK in their studies. The students at SMA are prepared to advance to
tertiary

The last level of education in our country is tertiary education. Students who have
graduated from senior high school may attend to university or academy. They can choose
any kinds of university or academy based on their interests or scopes of knowledge, for
example majoring in English, Mathematics, or teacher training university.
Ladies and Gentlemen;
Brothers and Sisters; I think thats all my speech. I hope my brief description on the formal education
in our country will be useful for us. Finally, I would like to say sorry if there are mistakes in my

The National Education Day
Ladies and gentlemen,
With all due the respect to the honorable Mr. Lecturer of Stai Darul Qalam, Drs. Habibullah, and to
all the dearest students of Stai Darul Qalam attending.
How glad I am as the first lady of Indonesia that today we can celebrate the National Education Day
that is taking place at the yard field of Bogor Palace on this May 2th 2007. By celebrating National
Education Day, I wish that we can have more spirits on us and rise up to enhance and develop the

education of our children so that they could be helpful and all-to-the good for the sake of people,
nation, and religion.
The rapid and great increase of school-age children and graduates from every level of education, but
not followed with any increase of facilities and infrastructures that is immediate and adequate
causing issues for government to provide education and teaching for all the citizens as said in the
Constitution.
This issue is quite crucial if we recall the variety of Indonesian geographical condition that is
widespread and separated with different levels of social-economics-cultural developments. At that
time, when the first time of execution of REPELITA/Rencana Pembangunan Lima Tahun (Five-Year
Development Plan) with an emphasis on economical development that is perceived to be the basis
of any other aspect regarding national development. In the renewal of education, the consideration is
focused on attempts of betterment and enhancement for the quality of education as well as
structuring of opportunity for everyone to get education.
Talking about the last attempt, it is quite difficult to reach if its only performed by using conventional
ways that is by making use of communication technology and television and radio information. In
2007, government has determined the APBN (National Budget) for education by 20 % for elementary
school, middle school, and high school. Every program and activity performed is not so much based
on the addition of total of school buildings, teachers, literatures, and others.
The indentified alternatives include:
1. The increase of accommodating capacity for Middle School students which is done by addition of
new schools
2. The increase of accommodating capacity for private schools
3. The development of open-schools by the correspondence-medias, modules, radio broadcastings,
television broadcastings, and others.
4. The opening of practical skill courses outside the schools as a channelization method for people
Ki Hajar Dewantara (1889-1959) was a personage of Indonesian education who initiated the
founding of educational institute named Taman Siswa. He is known more by his philosophy; tut wuri
handayani, hing madya mangun karsa, hing ngarso sung tulada.
Ki Hajar Dewantara classified the purpose of education in term tri-nga (three nga-nga is the last
alphabet of Javanese Ajisak alphabet). The first Nga means Ngerti (To understand or intellectual
aspect). The second Nga means Ngrasa (To feel or affection aspect), and the third Nga means
Nglakonin (To teach or the psycomotoric aspect). He formulated the purpose of education that
involves cognitive, affective, and psycomotoric aspect.

According to Dewantara, its everybodys right to control themselves. For that reason, the teaching
has to educate everyone to be human with independent soul, mind, and power. The teaching should
not too prioritize the intellectuality because it could take apart the educated people from society.
Thats all I could say. I wish Indonesia could improve and develop as well as create many productive,
creative, and innovative people under education process that are all to the good and beneficial for
people and nation, and create quality and independent human resources to meet the global needs.

grants His favor and mercy to those who obey Him, who punishes thoes who disobey Him.
Ladies and gentlemen, who I respect, Indonesia is a large country, which is inhabited by

since 1945, but part of people thought Indonesia has to become independent in terms of
education yet. Even though we have changed its curriculum almost every year, but it is evident
that education in Indonesia has not been able to compete as a whole with the developed
countries. We tend to be left behind and have not been able to print human resources quality of
developed countries. Ladies and gentlemen who I respect I tried to draw a line to the rear, and I
get the irony that it is disappointing. In a country that is very rich there are still many students
dropped out of school, have no uniforms, and swim to reach the school because the bridge is
damaged. It is an irony amid the wealth of our country. A child who is not getting an education,
of course they will have difficulty in achieving a better standard of living in the future. You've
noticed that a lot of poverty arises from ignorance and so much crime arising from poverty.
Ladies and gentlemen, who I respect, Education is a major key to a better country. Through
proper education and comprehensive, we are able to print high-quality human resources,
eradicate poverty, ignorance and crushing. Students and teachers have diligence, sincere, and
keep trying without relentlessness. We are a rich country. Indonesia is supposed to have the
best education. Don't give up on the fate of our nation today, and continue to fight for
independence of education. Ladies and gentlemen So what's going on with our education? The
level of education depends on one thing only. Education is depending on us. Good or bad
educations of countries rely on the students. If we want to change our model of education, let's
start by changing the way our point of view with the same education, keep trying, keep learning,
keep innovation, keep the invention for our education. Not much to say today, just a few words
on top of that I can offer you today, thank you very much for your attention and forgive me for

First of all, lets thank to Allah SWT who has given us many mercies and blessing so we
can join this program without any troubles. Secondly, I would like to introduce myself.
My name is . I am a student of ..
Well, ladies and gentlemen, in this occasion I would like to tell you about environment.
Environment is everything around us. Environment consists of two main parts which are
biotic and a biotic environment. Biotic environment is everything around us which are
live, for example plants, animals and human beings. While a biotic environment is
everything around us which are not live, for example stone, water, wind, land and etc.
We must protect our environment as good as possible because it can influence our live.
As we know that Indonesia has many tropical forests and it is a source of nature which
can help people live peacefully. So as human being we should preserve the forest.
There are some efforts which should be done by all people:
1. Not cutting down the trees in the forest
2. Planting any kinds of trees in the barren area of the forest
Cutting down the trees in the forest can cause many disasters for human beings. Of
course it can cause flood because the rain water cant be absorbed by the root of plants so
the water flows directly to the ground. There are many damage caused by the flood,
many people being homeless because of flood, the flood kill many kinds of pet, many
factories cant produce anything, transportation cant run well because the bridge is
broken and so on. How horrified the flood is!!
Actually, the disasters above can be minimized if all of human beings can preserve our
environment and we must pay more attention to the environment whenever and
wherever. We must not throw away rubbish anywhere which can disturb the flowing of
the river water. We should plant any kinds of trees in the barren area or in side of the
road.
By doing those simple efforts, it means we have participated in the preservation of our
environment.

too excited when you win, and do not be too disappointed if you lose.
Anda berada dalam permainan. Terkadang Anda menang, terkadang Anda kalah. Maka, jangan
terlalu bergembira ketika Anda menang, dan jangan terlalu kecewa jika Anda kalah.

Today is a second chance, so take advantage as best as possible.

Hari ini adalah kesempatan kedua, jadi manfaatkan sebaik mungkin.

Success found because of the hard work that never stop, not because of a
great talent.
Kesuksesan ditemukan karena kerja keras yang tidak pernah berhenti, bukan karena bakat yang
besar.

Think about how to create something, instead of just using.

Pikirkan bagaimana cara menciptakan sesuatu, bukan hanya menggunakan.

Never expect a reward. Hoping a reward could disappoint you.

Jangan pernah berharap sebuah imbalan. Harapan akan imbalan bisa mengecewakan Anda.

You are the only one who can decide your own destiny. Others only help you,
but they could not decide.

Anda adalah penentu takdir Anda sendiri. Orang lain hanya membantu Anda, namun mereka tidak
bisa menentukannya.
