I am also thankful to the Manager Heritage Telecom Kyengera Branch for granting me a chance
to carry out my internship training at their organization thank you. I am also very thankful to the
officers and staff of the sales and distribution department for their cooperation, guidance and
support during my internship training. I have acquired skills which have contributed a lot to my
work experience.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the people who have been important in the
successful completion of my internship training. I would like to thank my supervisorwho guided

Sulah my site supervisor, he has taught me all I had accepted to learn during my internship

ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP ORGANIZATION.


Background.
Heritage Telecom Limited is a dealer company of Airtel Uganda. It began operating in telecom
communication with Airtel Uganda recently last year in December. In December 2015, Heritage
telecom was offered a dealership in the chain of distribution by Airtel Uganda.
It was assigned a duty to distribute Airtel products for example airtime, electronic recharge
airtime (e-recharge ) sim cards, devices(phones). Heritage telecom was assigned to distribute the
above products in Wakiso to as an Airtel Uganda territory of distribution. Heritage telecom has
branches in various areas for example in Bulenga/Biira, Kakiri, Nansana and Kyengera where I
had my internship form.
Heritage telecom is spear headed by a managing director by the names Mr. Enock Musisi and
other directors.

Vision
To be the number one distributors in the country.

Mission
Formulating estatimetic chain of distribution

Objectives.
To distribute Airtel products throughout the country.
To sensitize Ugandans on the newly out coming promotions.
To avail Airtel services to customers for example sim pack replacement.

Introduction

This section covers the role of the department of sales and marketing at Heritage Telecom,
reporting on the internship and induction of the organization, the department assigned at the
organization.

1.1 THE INTERNSHIP TRAINING EXERCISE.


Internship program is the most significant stage for a Marketing students. The length of
internship program was two months, which carries a greatest learning technique to know about
the business and cope up the environment in such a way like trained employees. The experience
that got by an intern during the internship period makes them more elegant and professional in
their future job sector
In 2005 National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) initiated the programme of field
practicum as a requirement for all university students for the award of bachelors degree and
diploma awards, hence MBI engaged her students in practical approach. It was then confirmed
that all students across universities and Higher Institutions of learning in Uganda from 2008
admission must undertake field practicum with their supervisors to fully graduate as a university
qualification.
In summary the internship training was introduces with the following objectives,

To acquire planning, programming and knowledge in practicum field work.


To strengthen professional skills and interpersonal relationships in professional settings.
To increase knowledge in different work fields and get skills through the work assigned to

students.
To develop business contacts.
To expose students to a particular job and profession or industry.
To gain confidence at work place with fellow workmates and to get used to the working
environment.

1.2 SCOPE OF THE INTERNSHIP TRAINING


The internship training undertaken was carried out at Heritage Telcom Kyengera Branch which is
franchise to Airtel Uganda for the period of one month.
1.3 INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE
I gained vital skills while at Heritage Telecom which helped me to become more experienced in
different aspects for example, communication skills since I directly handled customers queries
and interacted with staff, computer skills since some tasks I handled I used computers to
accomplish them, I became efficient in marketing since I used to sell products and services,
gaining convincing techniques by persuading the customer to buy a product or service among
others.

1.4 POSITION HELD.


During my intern I was assigned different positions that is to say at the beginning I was a
marketier for 2 weeks in the department of marketing Department which is mostly responsible
for increasing sales and providing service. Besides, this department introduces promotional
activity, arrange advertisement and achieve target sales and so on.. After sale service is provide
for free if warranty period is valid otherwise in exchange of service charge. As a result, both
sales and service revenue lead by this department
After I was placed in the finance department where I worked as a cashier of

1.5 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Issuing stock to (DSRS) direct sales representatives who move stick directly to customers.
Making reports of the day

remains) to know what exactly to issue to them depending on their stock remains (returns).

Daily stock staking. I used to count stock at hand at the office on a daily basis. Stock included
Airtel sim cards, phones and boxes of airtime.

2.1 NEW SKILLS GAINED


More Computer skills. This has been through typing of different documents and reporting
mostly Microsoft office packages like Ms word, excel, PowerPoint and also the internet, above
that some of the services I used computers to accomplish them.
Communication skills because of interacting directly with different clients and staff I worked
with at Heritage Telecom.
Socialization was another skill gained through working with different categories of people.
Writing skills most especially producing weekly reports.
Marketing skills gained through DSRs sell of airtime and providing additional after sales
services.
Banking skills gained through banking bulk money.

2.2 PROBLEMS AND CHALLENGES I FACED


During my internship training I experienced some challenges though they did not hinder the
successful completion of the exercise among which they include the following;
The organisation.
Inadquate office space since they organisation employees too many people hence the office was
over crowded.
Technical problems like network insability hindered the smooth accomplision of tasks.
Poor time management by workers which led to missing out some important information and
tasks done by the organisation.
As internee
Financial problems since I fully supported myself in daily necessities like lunch, transport , no
allowances were given to me during my internship training.

3.1 RELEVANCE OF CLASS KNOWLEDGE TO PERFORM TASKS ASSIGNED.


Effective Communication skills studied at lectureres enabled to to apply them when I was
carryingout my internship training. I communicated well with staff and clients using oral, written
and non verbal sklils, the skills are relevant in the fields since it is hard to accomplish tasks
without applying them.
Content covered in business organisation and management like planning, organisational chart,
recruiting, management helped me to successfully complete my internship training, in the field I
was able to plan very well my daily schedule, managing sales and following hieracy while
executing duties.
On the third week of my internship I was assigned the position of a cashier, here I had to apply
accounting principles studied in my lecturer rooms forexaple preparing balance sheets, ledger
books and computing figures. The principles also helped me in banking companys money very

well without complomising with management since I applied what I studied in accounting ,
purcasing and econimics course units.

3.2 RECOMMENDATIONS
Working at Heritage Telecom Kyengera branch was a great experience for me. I have learnt
many things throughout my internship period. From my little knowledge what I have some
recommendations as follows:
Heritage Telecom Kyengera branch was a great experience for me. I have learnt many things
throughout have a very few employee at marketing department whereas the work pressure is
high. So the department could increase their workforce and share the work together.
Secondly, to increase the rate of work efficiency they need faster computer with user friendly
operating system. The company should update or add more features in that software and appoint
a professional operator so that it might save time, money, labor and execute an impact for the
long run.
3.3 CONCLUSION
The internship training was a great experience to me as far as my profession is concerned. The
skills and knowledge I gained and experienced will help me though I experienced some
challenges.
