Q. What are the different types of Production Planning?

A. There are three types of production process in SAP

Q. What are the activities carried out in Production Planning?

A. Activities involved in Production Planning includes
Processing material master
Creation of Bill of Material
Displaying work center and routing
Maintaining planning calendar
Maintaining production lot
Maintaining quota file
Defining range of coverage profile and profile for safety time
Defining MRP views
Q. Explain what is Routing in SAP PP?
A. Routing in SAP PP is referred to a list of activities which are required to
produce any material. For example, when you do cost estimation for the
material, the system triggers the relevant routing and activity rates for all those
described in routing. Which will helpful to calculate the processing cost in
product costing.
Routing is used in Production for scheduling and costing of operations for
finished and semi-finished materials.
Routing's are also used in standard cost calculation for finished Product by
calculating operational cost of finished product.
Before creating the routing, it is mandatory that Work Centre should be
available in the system.
In routing we define a set of operations (Operations are not defined
independently. They are to be defined in Routing only eg. Materials in BOM)

Q. Can one material have multiple routings?
A. There may be several alternative routings for a product. For example, product
can be manufactured on 2 manually operated machines (drilling and grinding)
and simultaneously manufactured on 1 automatic machine (which has both
drilling and grinding functions). In this case, Material has 2 alternative routings
viz, automatic machine and manual operated machine.
Q. What is the purpose of a Work Centre?
A. Work Centers are business objects in SAP-PP that is used in task list
operations ( routings, maintenance task lists, inspection plans) and work orders.
Data in work center is used for
Scheduling: Formulas and operating time are entered, so that the duration of
an operation can be calculated
Costing: Formulas are entered so that the costs of an operation can be
calculated

Capacity Planning: The available capacity and formulas for capacity

requirements is entered
Simplifying operation maintenance: Various default values can be included in
the work center

Q. What are the views in Work Center.

A. http://www.guru99.com/work-center-sap-pp.html
Q. What are control keys?
A. Activity types (such as Power, Labour Hours, Machine hours, etc.) are defined
in control keys.
Control keys are then assigned in routing.
Q. What is the maximum number of activity types that can be defined in one
control key?
A. 6
Q. How many control keys can be assigned in a routing.
A. 1
Q. So what to do if more than 6 activity types are to be assigned to one routing?
A. Merge multiple activities is one possible answer.
Q. What is Backflusing? Where is the setting for backflushing?
A. Goods issue has to be posted for every material that is withdrawn during order
processing. Goods issue posting can be carried out:
Directly when the material is withdrawn
At a later date, that is, when the phase to which the relevant material
component is assigned is confirmed. This is known as backflushing.
The setting for backflusing is in Material Master record.
Note: Only phases are confirmed in the process order. Thus, you cannot
backflush a material if the material component is assigned to an operation in the
process order.
Q. What do we mean by settlement of production order?
A.
Q. Where do we assign settlement profile in production order?
A. In SPRO (Direct T-Code: OPJH). It is assigned to Production Order Type. So any
production order with that production order type will have the same Settlement
Profile.

Q. What are the different instances where in we can perform quality check of the
material?
A. Inward (RM), In-process (WIP), Outward (FG)
Q. How to activate inspection for WIP?
A. By making the setting in WC.
Q. How to insert an inspection checkpoint at the end of an operation?
A. If in process sample is to be defined, assign inspection type 03 in the Material
Master. Then create MICs and assign them in the Routings. System automatically
generates the Inspection Lots.
