POINT PLEASANT BEACH - Early Monday, before


the sun was up, the Lady Gertrude was about 35 to 40
miles southeast of Sandy Hook in a fishing ground
called the Chicken Canyon when it started to take on
water.
The canyon is a deep depression on the ocean floor
and a ground known for scallops what the Lady Gertrude, a 78-foot commercial fishing vessel from Point
Pleasant Beach, was after when it left Manasquan Inlet
on Sunday night.
By 2 a.m. though, something had gone wrong as the
boats hull started filling with water.
Captain Jim Lovgren was far away on the boat Shadowfax, towing his nets for fluke two miles off the beach
when he heard the Gertrudes first emergency call over
the VHS radio. His heart dropped into his stomach. His
34-year old son Keith Lovgren was on the boat.

Soon after his career on Wall Street ended with a
whimper, Louis Spina had another plan.
Spina started his own trading firm, at first working with a relative, then alone, he said.
It was a simple operation: Use a computer program to buy stocks low, sell high and hustle short
sales, bidding on a stocks value decreasing. He
worked from an office in Fair Haven.
But it wasnt like the happy days on the trading
floor. On the exchange, he had the upper hand. He
was like an actor confident in his lines.

HAMILTON - The Washitaw Nation, the separatist


group to which Baton Rouge cop killer Gavin Long
pledged allegiance, has a following in New Jersey.
Security officials say that their escapades here are
mostly nonviolent but that members commit opportunistic property crimes and prank public officials who
they believe threaten their way of life.
The Washitaw formally the Empire Washitaw de
Dugdahmoundyah began around Louisiana and Texas. Members claim that they are descended from the indigenous mound-builders of the region and that they
rightfully own the Louisiana Purchase territory.
Security officials refer to separatists such as the
Washitaw as sovereign citizens, groups or individuals
who claim exemption from taxes, laws and government. The New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and
Preparedness reported in July that Washitaw members
squat in foreclosed properties, using bogus paperwork
to declare ownership and commit other types of fraud.
