CourseOverview:PublicSpeakingisthe#1fearinAmerica.Thismeansthatthemajorityof
peopleintheUnitedStateswouldratherbeinacasketthandeliveringtheeulogyatafuneral.
Theaimofthisclassistoprepareyoufortherealworldthoughpracticestandinginfrontofa
groupofpeopleanddeliveringaspeech.Speakinginfrontofagroupofpeopleisavaluable
skill,andonethatwillcomeinhandyasyoupreparetoentertheworkforce.Thiscoursewill
coverawiderangeofspeechesandorganizationalskillstohelpyoufeelcomfortablewithpublic
speaking.

ClassroomRulesandExpectations:
1. Beontime.
Youmustbeinyourseatwhenthebellrings,oryouwillbecountedtardy.
2. Cometoeachclassprepared.
Thisincludesmakingsuretobringyourchromebook(charged)toclass.
3. Berespectfultoeveryoneintheclassroom.
WhileIfullysupportfreedomofspeech,justunderstandthattheclassroomisnotthe
appropriateoutletforinappropriatelanguagethatisdisrespectfultoanyone.
Iknowyouhavehearditathousandtimes,buttreatothersasyouwouldliketobe
treated.
Keepinmindthateveryonehasdifferingopinionsandtheirspeechesmayexpressideas
orbeliefsthatyoudisagreewith.Keepanopenmindandrespecteveryonesrightto
theirownopinion.
4. Ipromisetocometoeachclassexcitedtoteachandwithapositiveattitude.Itisthen
yourresponsibilitytomakesureIstayinapositiveattitudethroughclassparticipation,
completionofwork,andrespectfulbehavior.
5. Youareallowedtoleavetheclassroom2timeseachquarterwithoutreceivingatardy,
anytimeyouleavetheclassroomafteryour2freebieswillresultinatardy.

LateWorkPolicy:

Allworkmustbeturnedinonthedaythatitisduetoreceivefullcredit.Anyworkthatislate
willreceivea20%deductioninpoints.Alllateworkmustbesubmittednolaterthan2weeks
priortotheendofthequarter.

MakeupWork:
1. Studentswillhave1dayforeverydaytheyareabsenttomakeuptheirwork.
2. Allassignmentsthatyouhavemissedwillbeinthecrate.Pleasecheckthecratebefore
youaskmewhatyoumissed.
3. Youcanaskforinstructionsforyourmakeupworkbeforeclass,afterclass,before
school,afterschool,orduringmyplanperiod.Iwillnotgiveinstructiontoassignments
missedduringtheregularclasstime.

MandatoryStudyHall:
Studentsthatcompletelessthan50%ofthehomeworkassignedwillbegivenaMandatory
StudyHallthatmustbeservedthatday.Allworkisduebythebeginningofthehourtoavoida
MandatoryStudyHall.

AcademicDishonestyandPlagiarism
Academicdishonestyincludescheating,fabricatingorfalsifyinginformationorsources,
impropercollaboration,submittingthesamepaperfordifferentclasseswithoutpermission,and
plagiarism.Plagiarismoccurswhenwritersdeliberatelyorunintentionallyuseanotherperson's
language,ideas,ormaterialsandpresentthemastheirownwithoutproperlyacknowledgingand
citingthesource.
*IfastudentiscaughtbeingAcademicallyDishonesthe/shewillbegivenanalternative
assignmentthatcanonlyscore70%ofthetotalpointspossiblefortheoriginalassignment.

GoogleClassroom
Ifanassignmentisgivenontheclassroom,studentsmustcompletetheassignmentonthe
classroom.WorkthatissharedviaemailorcreatedoutsidetheGoogleClassroomwillnotbe
accepted.
