Statement from John Allegro on the Theft of United Monroes Goodwill

August 16, 2016

On June 6th, I announced my candidacy for the New York State Assembly, 98th District. Since then, over
three thousand people signed petitions supporting my run; both on the Republican line for the September
13th primary, and as the endorsed candidate of United Monroe, an independent grassroots organization.
The support I received from citizens as I spent the last 70 days traveling throughout district from Port
Jervis to Ramapo was overwhelming. I could not, and did not, do this alone. Scores of volunteers carried
petitions door to door in the heat and rain, until dark. They gave up time with their families to stand at
carnivals, street fairs, and concerts, helping me to get our message out about honest and accountable
government.
For all of this the people who answered their doors with a smile, those who came out to events to sign
their names, and the indefatigable army of campaign helpers I am forever grateful.
We learned today, in an act of desperation and malice, that my primary opponent Assemblyman Karl
Brabenec submitted independent nominating petitions taking United Monroe as his intended party.
Karl Brabenec didn't receive United Monroe's endorsement in 2014, and he didn't receive their
endorsement in this election season. That privilege was given to me.
Brabenecs actions, and subsequent public statement, is an insult to the intelligence of the 9,000 voters who
cast their ballots for Dan Castricone in the 2014 Assembly election, and to the nearly 7,000 people who
elected Mike McGinn and Tony Cardone to the Monroe Town Board in 2015. His bald-faced attempt to steal
the political goodwill of an organization that is in a four-year fight for honest, transparent, and civil
government, is a clear indicator of his lack of morals and integrity.
Politics is not a game of win at all costs. Public office is not a right of ascension, to be held onto by selfentitled incumbents at the expense of the disenfranchisement of thousands of honest, hard-working
citizens. Most of all, the public trust is not to be abused by the deceptive and immoral acts of feckless
career politicians.
As the endorsed candidate of United Monroe garnering over 2,100 signatures, and as the choice of over 800
petition signers who give me the honor of a position on the Republican primary ballot, I promise you the
following: None of what you have done to help this cause has gone to waste. I will be on the ballot in
November; first as the Republican nominee after the primary, and then as the endorsed candidate of United
Monroe as an independent candidate.
Stand with me and vote for the representation you deserve. And thank you for your continued support.
