WHO IS JESUS CHRIST?

COURSE SYLLABUS
*Course Description and Objectives: This course leads students toward a deeper understanding of divine
Revelation, the Trinity, the Incarnation, Jesus significant relationships, Jesus teachings, Jesus example,
salvation, and discipleship as a response to Gods love. As Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger (Pope Emeritus Benedict
XVI) has written, as Christians, our departure point is a person, not a program. This course examines the Person
of Jesus Christ - who he actually was and is. The course has eight units centered on eight important questions or
concepts about Jesus Christ. Each unit builds on the knowledge, skills, and understanding of the previous one.
Materials:
1. Carrie J. Schroeder, Jesus Christ: Gods Love Made Visible, Saint Marys Press, 2011
2. The Holy Bible. Revised Standard Version 2nd Catholic Edition (Note: We will routinely use a Bible app
called Catholic Study Bible App Ignatius-Lighthouse Edition)

Assignments & Student Assistance: Students are expected to complete all assignments on time. Homework
will be given at least once per week. These include reading assignments in the student text and other outside
sources as well as worksheets and reflections. For both projects of the semester, students will choose from
several options (individual or group). There will also be several quizzes throughout the course and two tests.
Additional student assistance is available by request.
Academic Honesty Policy: The Honor Code is a cornerstone of SJCAs mission to develop young men and
women of honesty and integrity (see Student & Parent Handbook, pp. 19-21). In order to emphasize the
importance of living with character and fidelity to these values, students who plagiarize or cheat on any
assignment will automatically receive a zero for that assignment. The student will also be required to meet with
the Dean of Students and his or her parent(s) will be notified.
