Mr.Nguyen / knguyen7@aisd.net / knguyen11@aisd.net

COURSE STATEMENT
This is an introductory
Chemistry course that will cover all
Texas Essential Knowledge and
Skills (TEKS) for Chemistry and
prepare students for Advancement
Placement Chemistry and
International Baccalaureate
Chemistry. This is a challenging course
that covers 14 Units that are detailed
with scheduled pacing in the attached
scope and sequence on the back.

/ 682.867.8300 / Room 236

I am here to serve
the students and create
them to be college ready
and life-long learners. At
the end of the course,
students will become
better independent
thinkers and problem
solvers and ask
themselves, What in
the world is not
chemistry?

SUPPLY LIST
1. Multi colored pens, pencils, and highlighter
2. Expo marker for individual use on whiteboards
3. Spiral Bound Notebook College Rule at least 70 pages
4. 2-inch three ring binder specifically dedicated to Chemistry
(exception AVID)
5. TI-30X (Pro, XS, IIS) non graphing scientific calculator
6. Daily access to computer with internet to access the online
textbook, CANVAS and classroom website
GRADING CATEGORIES
Test = 60%
Project, Lab, Quiz, Assignment = 40%
-Quizzes are weighted twice as much as assignments
NO EXTRA CREDIT OFFERED
LATE WORK/MAKE UP POLICY
NO LATE WORK IS ACCEPTED!
For every EXCUSED absence, the same amount of day(s) missed will be the
same amount of day(s) allowed to make up the assignment. If a student misses a
lab day, students must come outside of class to make up part of the lab for the lab
grade. If you miss a quiz or test, these assessments must be made up outside of
class. If students take the bus to and from school, I would recommend coming in
during lunch to make up assignments, labs or tests so that you finish in a timely
manner in one sitting.
TEST REDEMPTION
Students are allowed to improve a test grade below a 90.
Students can earn up to 20 points back to a test and improve their
grade up to a 90. The redemption test will be taken in class and
cover the same material covered on the original test.
If you have below a 90, you can earn up to 20 points for a 90.
If you have a 90 or above, you cannot improve your grade.
CLASSROOM RULES
Be Ready, Responsible, and Respectful!
INTEGRITY
I expect the work you turn in is YOUR WORK. Cheating on any assignment or
assessment will result in a zero and parent contact.
DISCIPLINE

Students are given a detention essay to be completed outside of class. The

essay allows students to reflect on their actions and what they will do next time
instead. Essays must be signed by parent and turned in the next class day.
